Beautiful new crop circle, reported today. Kind of a throwback to the old days when they first started getting elaborate. I need to see closer pics to decide if it's conventionally man made though.

That crop circle is brilliant!

So hows this for a bit of randomness? Today at the beach a particularly strong wave threw me headfirst into some guy, completely bowling him over and the force of it all caused me to burst out of my bikini top. If we had a knock off "F My Life" thread going on here that would be the place for this tale.

My way home today wasn't so great ... When I was in the middle of walking home, it suddenly started raining and hailstones were bombing me ... I was SOAKED when I reached my house ...so not funny.
And I found my NEW sunshade gone from my balcony, that was quite a shock. It fell down in my neighbours garden and they weren't at home ... it turned out that they're moving out anywaay, but the other neighboor was nice and got it from their garden for me. Thank God!

George Effing Bush wrecked the economy to steal trillions for his high-powered cronies and now small businesses in this country are closing up shop left and right. Dale is going to allow Corporate Promotions to be absorbed by Geiger --- a huge compmany in our industry. But they don't have a place for me.

One of three things might happen...

1) Dale might be able to keep me on as her assistant, basically doing what Joe did while she sells for Geiger, if she can figure out how to pay me.

2) Something might open up at Geiger, but they've laid people off and if they start rehiring, those people get first dibs.

3) I am shit out of luck, left high & dry and I'll lose everything.

My stupid horiscope keeps saying there are big changes coming, but it also said they'd be wonderful. Somehow, I don't see the wonder.

I've checked online if UCB in Smyrna has official job openings for Administrative Assistants, but there's nothing available that sounds like you're qualified for it. You could still try sending them a "blind" application (you know, just send in your credentials without an actual job offer to go with). Unfortunately, I don't know anyone working in the Smyrna office I could ask for help. Plus, UCB has been laying people off this and last year too, so it's not too likely they'll be hiring outside people. But you never know.

I doubt there's going to be any jobs with a company that's laying people off. And that's pretty much everyone in the country right now. I don't have a lot of hope. Like at all.

In a company as big as UCB, it all depends. They were laying people off in some departments, but there were hiring outside people in other departments if there wasn't anyone internal qualified for the job. I know because we interviewed a few external people for an Admin job a few months ago. You'll never know if you don't try. Do they have something like temporary employment agencies over there?

Yeah, they do. I've been through it all before, I know how it works. Took me a year and a half to find this job after Citizens closed up their Atlanta shop. But I had money to live on then. Now, I have nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Yes, they can. Which is why it's so damn scary. There's millions of people out there with no job and no prospects. And now I might get to join them on the soup line.

What I find even more scary is that in the US you don't have a government funded support system, right? At least in Germany you get what they call HARTZ4 when you don't have a job for longer than a year. Basically the state gives you money to live on. Not a lot, just enough to get by, but you can live without having to move into a shithole. And in the US you basically get... nothing. Right? And no health insurance either, I'm guessing.

Oh, and here's something not quite as scary: We've had two cases of "swine" flu in our company. Now everyone is asked to wash hands frequently, disinfect them and in the cafeteria cutlery is handed out by the people at the counter with plastic gloves. Not that I think it'll help much, there's still people who don't wash hands at all after going to the toilet. I guess I've just entered the risk zone. Suddenly it's not quite so far away anymore...
