No, he said so in one of the older interviews we have with him. I just can't find it right now. He talked about the beats between the lines and how effective he thought that was. My connection is acting up and I can't get some of those pages we have the interviews linked from to load for me.

Ah, I see. Well, I don't know every interview by heart, so I mixed that up.

It's in the PopGurls interview:
People gushed over the final scene between Joan and Adam in "No Bad Guy." What did you think of the scene?
I thought it came off extremely well. Jim Hayman directed that episode and he did such a great job at taking the necessary beats in that scene and holding them - there's a lot of silence between the lines that played a really strong subtext to everything Adam and Joan were feeling, and I feel like that's what really pulled on everybody's heart strings. Adam and Joan looking at each other - seeing it in their eyes even though they're not saying it all completely.
It was a really emotional scene, and out of all the ones that we filmed, it's probably the most emotional because it carries the weight that will end up affecting these two characters for as long as the show goes.

Thanks. I thought it might be that one. I can't seem to get anywhere online today. I don't know what's going on with my connection.

Man, reading through this thread brings back a ton of memories. This show had some really wonderful moments.
One of my favorite scenes is from the end of "Vanity, Thy Name is Human" when Adam brings his movies over to Joan's house.

Oh God, how we love that one! He's sooooo cute in that scene. So sweet and funny. And, of course, pointy:

"There's an anarchic absurdity in 'dude' that speaks to teenage alienation."
"What?"
"It's funny as hell."
Thank you, Adam.
I love it how he hands her the bag and she look in and asks, "Did you rent these?" and he just shakes his head wordlessly. Adam can say more without words than with words sometimes. And I love that.

Haha. I loved that line so much that I made a banner with it. LOL

I loved all of those scenes. And I could probably pick every scene from "Jump", because I think it is the best episode of the series. One small moment which I really loved (probably because I have an 11 year old daughter) is in Book of Questions when Grace's father says to her "Today you are a woman...take care of my little girl". But the scene I think I would have to choose is from "Silence". I have to credit someone from the IMDB board who clued me in to the meaning of the scene, The last scene, after Joan has decided there is no God, and she goes to sleep. Then God walks in, and gently touches her head. Even if we deny God, he is still with us and cares about us. Wow.
Joan: So, my true nature is to be a catalyst? That is mad anti-climatic.
God: Anti climactic. Anti-climatic means you're against the weather.

That's a doozy all right. One of many such great moments and why we all still love this show so much even though it's been gone for a while now.

I think we should bump this thread and talk more about our favorite scenes!
I also like the ending scene in "Romancing the Joan"- the pictures around the mirror and them kissing slowly, making it look like a part of the still images on the art work.. sheer perfection!
:crying:

Joan: "Wow. I always thought you'd hate me if I was a cheerleader."
Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."

Another favorite scene of mines that tickle me greatly still to this day, same episode ("Romancing the Joan"):
When Adam asks Grace doesn't she have an appointment in the biology closet, HAHAHHAHA!!
And then the whole:
Stevie: Plus, I get two whole art credits for hanging around and watching him be a genius.
Joan: Awww, I do that for free.
--
Adam: Jane, c'mon. You aren't seriously jealous.
Joan: No.. she's so perky.
Adam: I hate perky; this you know.
;D

AHHH! Thanks to y'all, everytime I see Adam point his finger, I have to say, "MR. POINTY!" That was when I knew I' had been on the boards for too long, despite me still being a newbie, haha.

I also really liked the scenes (yeah, it's impossible to just pick a scene in one episode) in "The Boat" where Joan lost her boat mojo and Adam was telling her the story where he told Mr. Price he could play all the instruments but then now he can't and can't "even whistle", haha. While that's great, this is my favorite:
When he told Joan her boat's beautiful and glanced at her .. Ahhhh, too cute.
And then of course, I loved the ending scene.
Oh, how I really, really wanted Joan to tell him her secret. And then I lost it when God expressed to her that she needs to share his burden ;(
Joan: "Wow. I always thought you'd hate me if I was a cheerleader."
Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."

I will! Teejay already posted a favorite scene/pic of mines in the "Indelible Adam & Joan Images" thread from "Queen of Zombies" where Joan and Adam Eskimo kissed, so I guess there's no need to repost that.
Sorry Adam, the shirt isn't so hot.
But seriously though! "Do the Math"-- another episode with many favorite, subtle scenes:
The gentle conflict when Joan came over to listen to her tutor's record with Adam and he was debating to zip, or unzip, and then zipping the ugly blue shirt Iris gave him.. ;D
Their conversation and indirect promise to never lie to each other's face.
Kiss already! But nope. Dang Iris!
Then...
*cue "Collide"*
Of course, instant classic. What did it for me was when he said, "I was just scared, Jane- got kind of hurt before and I thought- about you... and being scared didn't matter that much."
