Heidi Ho

Allatraka here. I first saw a few episodes of Joan of Arcadia when it was on television, but I never watched it regularly and then it was cancelled. Then I saw The Girl Next Door and I loved the charcter of Eli. Then I saw Sisterhood of the traveling pants, and that got me interested in seeing some other things Amber Tamblyn had done and I ended up watching all of Joan of Arcadia on DVD and on Dougfreeze.com/Joan. And I realized Eli was Adam! And Adam was Eli! It was so weird because I hadn't noticed any similarity between the two until I actually looked at the opening credits and I was like "Chris Marquette...that sounds familiar." That just goes to show how much of a good actor he is; totally emerses himself in his characters. Anyway, I love the whole Adam and Joan relationship and I absolutely despise Trial & Error.
This is a great site, by the way. Thank you for it.

Re: Heidi Ho

Hello allatraka and welcome here again. (I said that already in the other thread, I know. wink) Yeah, Eli and Adam. They're so totally different! They should better never meet, huh? big_smile
But that's what I like very much about Chris - he's able to do both, the sad characters and the funny ones.
Thing is, GND came to Germany in November 2004, right after JoA started here in October, but I didn't even notice it. But as soon as I realized that Chris was in it, I bought the DVD. I love that movie, it's one of the comedies I can watch a hundred times and it still cracks me up. That doesn't happen often. I don't like comedies that much, especially teen comedies, I prefer drama.
Oh and in the end I realized that I had seen Chris already before JoA, because I used to watch Judging Amy, in which he had a guest role, but he was way younger then, so I didn't recognize him.
Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. We're pretty harmless most of the time. wink LOL

Re: Heidi Ho

Welcome, allatraka, so glad you made the leap.  Now, you'll have to go explore some of Chris's other work.  He is an amazing actor.  We've got lots of clips here of things you've probably never seen.  Enjoy.  smile

Oh, and BTW, if you want to hear a validation of your the idea that TPTB were trying to turn JoA into The OC, go listen to our October interview with Chris.

Re: Heidi Ho

I'm mad now. Because, yes, I admit it, I watch The O.C. Not my favorite show among those that I watch, but I still like it. (Though it's far from being a quality show.) Why am I mad? Well, I just watched the series finale. And I just wish JoA would have at least had the chance to wrap the show up properly like they did in The O.C. I mean, the ending for The O.C. was über-cheesy, but at least it had closure. JoA never will have. And that makes me mad once again.

But let's talk about something more pleasant. Since allatraka talked about how different Eli and Adam were, let's repost this little snippet that I came up with a while ago.

What would happen if Eli and Adam were twin brothers that didn't go to the same school?

INT. ROVE RESIDENCE, EARLY EVENING.

Joan turns up at Adam's house, they go to Adam's room. Eli comes out of his room as Adam and Joan are just about to enter Adam's.

ELI: Hey, bro, what's up?
ADAM: Eli, hi.
ELI: So, who's the hot chick? (points at Joan)
ADAM: (stammering slightly) Oh, uh, this ... this is Jane.
ELI: Jane, huh? (smiles at Joan) I'm Eli.
JOAN: Well, it's Joan actually. Nice to meet you.
Joan holds out her hand. They shake hands.
ELI: (frowns) Which is it now, Joan or Jane?
JOAN: It's Joan. Your brother calls me Jane. Why, I don't know. You'd have to ask him.
ELI: (shrugs) Nah, not going there. He's a weirdo. It's what he does.
At that moment, there's TV noises coming out of Eli's room, loud moaning and something that sounds like whiplashes and fragments of words like "Oh! Yeah, baby!"
ADAM: (to Joan, blushing slightly) So... okay. Uhm, come on in.
Adam opens the door to his room and lets Joan enter first. Once she's inside, Eli takes Adam by the upper arm, holding him back for a moment.
ELI: So, you gonna bang her?
ADAM: (sighs) Eli...
ELI: (holds up his hands akin to a defensive gesture) Okay, okay. I'm just sayin'...
ADAM: Do me a favor and turn that down. And don't snoop around, okay?
ELI: Okay, sure, you got it.
Adam goes into his room. Joan gives him a sheepish smile.
JOAN: That's not ... (points in the direction of Eli's room) what I think it is, is it?
ADAM: Oh. Uhm... Well, he's got this thing for ... uh...
JOAN: Porn?
ADAM: Look, I know it's kinda embarrassing, but, yeah. I mean, he's a nice guy and all...
JOAN: Hey, don't worry about it. It's cool. He and Friedman would become fast friends, don't you think?

Or Adam and Eli in the shed:

INT. ROVE'S SHED, SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

This is not the shed's interior the way we know it. It's still the same shed, there's just a lot of video equipment around, two TV sets, a computer and several tripods and two video cameras in the front part of the room. The back is still the workbench with lots of artsy stuff around. Eli is fumbling around with one of the video cameras, sitting on a stool in front of his TV. Adam comes in, walking to the back of the room to where his workbench is at which he usually does his art.

As Adam approaches his workbench, we see that there are video tapes littered on it. Adam picks a tape up, holding it in Eli's face.

ADAM: Eli, how often do you have to tell you not to put this smut with my art.
ELI: Chill, dude. It's just porn, okay?
ADAM: It's embarrassing. Not to mention inappropriate. What if Jane comes here and sees all this?
ELI: (knowingly) Oooooh, Jane. Now I see. You really like this girl, huh?
ADAM: (impatiently) Yeah, I like this girl. Could we give it a rest already?
ELI: (winks at Adam) So, have you... you know? (makes a fist with one hand and slaps the palm of his other hand against the thumb and index finger area a few times)
ADAM: I don't see how that's any of your business.
ELI: Aw, come on. I mean, it's the logical thing to do, right?
ADAM: For you, maybe.
ELI: Hey, come on, you don't wanna tell me that you haven't thought about it. I mean, she's hot. She's totally into you, so what are you waiting for?
He gives Adam a good natured slap on the shoulder. Adam looks annoyed for a moment, then he narrows his eyes, looking at Eli inquisitively.
ADAM: How do you know she's into me?
ELI: Hey, man, it's totally obvious. Don't tell me you didn't notice the way she looks at you. Seriously, you're some piece of work. She's, like, so into you.
ADAM: (repeats to himself) She's into me. (looks at Eli) So, what do I do?
ELI: You have to ask? Take her to a motel room and bang her like a beast!

big_smile

Oh, and welcome here again, allatraka! Glad to have you!

HAhahaha!
"Bang her like a beast!" That's my favorite line in the entire movie. That and the ending where that guy  asks him if he thinks he's a little young to be a director.

Re: Heidi Ho

My favorite part is:
MATT: Eli, I like this girl!
ELI: And you can still like her with your penis inside her.

LOL yeah, that's my favorite part, too. But I also love the "Shut the F*** up!" line at the end. Loved it so much, I just had to put in on my computer as error message. big_smile

Re: Heidi Ho

Man I wish I was that smooth back in High School! lol

Oh, and welcome Allatraka!!! My name is Sean and I am from Albuquerque, NM. I met Chris during the Fanboys shoot and eventually came across this site thanks to Deb and her postings on IMDB. I had shared a few pictures and stories from the movie and I enjoyed Tina, Anne, and Deb so much that I decided to stick around!

Re: Heidi Ho

Awww, thanks, Sean! <mmmmwhaaaa> And we're so glad you're sticking around! Truth be told, we are in your eternal debt for all the great Fanboys goodies you've given us. I think without those, our visit to the ROTN wouldn't have been so smooth and we might not have had the chance to meet Chris twice the way we did. You were our friggin' destiny, man! smile

Oh, and by the way... I was never that smooth in (the German equivalent of) high school either. tongue

Re: Heidi Ho

LOL!  Let me in on that group hug, too.  I know for a fact that none of our cool encounters would've happened without the magical Fanboys t-shirts.
