Are there any fanfics that resolve the Ryan Hunter storyline ?

We didn't resolve the Ryan storyline, but shortly after the cancellation me and a couple other people were in a roleplaying thing where we started to deepen Ryan's story and we actually did discuss how the story would finally come to a (very messy) close, but we never made it there because it fell apart after a few months.
The story line has a lot of Joan/Adam in it, since we kind of forced them back together and there's some Grace/Luke, but up until the very end our Luke is very out of character.
Here's the link to the first "chapter" if anyone's interested and, yes, the beginning really makes no sense at all: http://community.livejournal.com/joa_roleplay/256.html
I should also note that Joan and Grace were the only ones "played" by the same people throughout. You'll notice the change in players.

I think someone wrote a sort of season 3 on fanfiction.net, but I haven't read it. There's also another virtual season three that a group of people started writing, but then stopped in the middle and never continued. The website is here: http://www.neias.net/virtualthree. I know Deb hated it because they made Adam into this wimpy, boring character. There's another virtual season three on the joanofarcadia.com message board: http://www.joanofarcadia.com/forum/foru … esc&page=2 I have read the virtual s3 on neias.net, but not the others.
I'm not sure if there's any other stories about Ryan Hunter on fanfiction.net. You could try any of these: http://www.fanfiction.net/search.php?ty … =0&words=0

Yeah, that Virtual Season 3 thing pissed me right off. You could tell they hated Adam. I stopped reading it after only a few chapters. Never cared about the Ryan Hunter thing anyway.

Well, I never hated Adam, so maybe I won't read that Virtual Season 3, but I will always be curious as to where JoA would have gone with that storyline. Why do you dislike it so much, Deb ?

Because it just didn't fit. I was always bugged by the bizarre need CBS seemed to have to completely change what was already a wonderful show. I don't care what lip service Barbara Hall gives the idea of an "adversary" for Joan being something she wanted to do all along. I don't buy it. It seemed forced from the get-go and I really wish they'd just left well enough alone.

Yeah they were obviously changing the direction of the entire series. I agree with you Deb, should have left it the way it was and continued onto season 3!

I dunno, but I never had a problem with giving Jane some kind of adversary. I assume that "God" was still going to be around, and I could have easily seen, say, Russ Tamblyn's dog walker God handily defeating Ryan Hunter in a dance-off, thus resolving that storyline in a colourful fashion.

Well, that would've been amusing. I've tried to stay neutral about it because we just don't know if what they had planned would've worked at all. And we'll probably never know. I just don't care enough to read anymore crappy fanfic about it. And I never cared to write about it at all, that's for sure.

I think why it always felt false to me wasn't that Joan would have an adversary. It was that it was such a standard evil adversary. It was so obvious, for a show which had always been subtle. It was so simplistic for a show which had always looked for unexpected complicated answers.
This was the series which had the uncertainty principle episode. It started out making you think that it was going to be a traditional tv episode about the misunderstood kid, who is cured by getting a friend. Then it showed that it isn't that easy to solved someone who is that messed up. yet, it didn't just say he was evil. It showed an "evil" character in all his demensions. That was how JOA did evil, not Hunter.
Joan: So, my true nature is to be a catalyst? That is mad anti-climatic.
God: Anti climactic. Anti-climatic means you're against the weather.

I completely agree with you, Deb. I really think Trial And Error changed JOA in a bad way.

I'm torn on the Ryan Hunter line of thought myself.
I agree that it was meant to take the show in a different direction,
which depending on how they went about it could go either good or
horribly wrong (moot point now I guess.. lol)
But I always looked at it as a way to work up to Adam and Joan getting
back together. By the last episode she knew she would need him and
his support to get through whatever was coming at her next, and I have
a hard time believing that Adam and Joan could get thrown together
in such an intense situation without realizing how much they needed
each other. I think that the Ryan Hunter train of thought was always meant
to be a way for Joan to forgive Adam...
Then again, that could just be me.. lol

I have to say that I didn't think their virtual s3 was so bad. I agree that they didn't portray Adam as a loving or admirable character, but I didn't think they wrote him inappropriately. Most of the writers who worked on that virtual season were Luke/Grace fans and not particularly fond of Adam, and it does show, but IMHO not in a way where it turned me away from reading. It's just that they never finished the season, it stops right in the middle with episode 15 and has been abandoned since.
And while we're talking about bad fan fiction: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5378803/1/Dream_World (I couldn't read past the first paragraph...) I recently read this article about screenwriting, and here's a quote from it about people who are bad writers: "Because here's the thing: not only is it cruel to encourage the hopeless, but you cannot discourage a writer. If someone can talk you out of being a writer, you're not a writer. If I can talk you out of being a writer, I've done you a favor, because now you'll be free to pursue your real talent, whatever that may be. And, for the record, everybody has one. The lucky ones figure out what that is. The unlucky ones keep on writing shitty screenplays and asking me to read them."

That's from the article I think I linked here called , "No, I Will Not Read Your F'ing Script", or something like that, isn't it. Great article.
Thea, I don't know if the Ryan Hunter thing would've been a way to get Adam & Joan back together. But I always felt that Ryan was going to corrupt Adam and pull him away from her as one of the ways he would go at her. And she would end up fighting to bring Adam "back to the light", so to speak. That could've been interesting and it certainly would've given Chris some new and different colors to play...
