NaNoWriMo

:alarm: For all you writers out there don't forget that November is National Novel Writer's Month!! :alarm:

For those of you not familiar with NaNoWriMo, it's a month long competition that encourages participants to
write a 50k word novel in 30 days.
Writing starts at midnight on 11/1 (no sooner then that!) and goes through till midnight 11/30

It's stressful and nerve-racking and absolute insanity… but it's oh so much fun!

I participated last year (and made my 50k mark!) and LOVED IT! Preparation has begun on other forums for this year's competition and I wanted to make sure that my fellow writers here knew about it.

You're novel can be anything, original or fan-fiction… so why not give it a try? What do you have to lose?

Many places have NaNoWriMo gatherings and once you sign up at nanowrimo.com  you'll get messages about what's being done in your area.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to participate this year (and yes, it's killing me) but come on and give it a shot!

The worst that can happen is you don't reach the goal.. the best is that at the end of the month you have a 50k+  word novel sitting in front of you.

Many sites that promote this competition have what we call "adoptions" where people who are not participating that year can encourage and help others who are. Some times encouragement or even just bouncing ideas off another person can make the biggest difference…

So get those ideas together and get ready for a month of insanity!
If anyone here decides to give it a shot let me know, I'll be here cheering you through the whole thing!

Let's get writing!

Re: NaNoWriMo

That's a really cool project, but I personally don't write well under pressure. Or maybe I could if I really wanted to, but I don't want to. Writing is supposed to be fun (at least when you're not getting paid for it) and not something that I want to feel pressured to do. But for those who enjoy that kind of thing, it sounds a like a great idea.

I also don't have any idea how much 50,000 words are. How many words does Butterflies have right now, you reckon?

Re: NaNoWriMo

Why not give it a try?  Well, I have no ideas.  Except two that I want to write film scripts from.  If it was a script competition, I might dive into it because I do write well under pressure.  Deadlines often help me stay focused.  I used to enter screenplay competitions all the time and I did OK in a few, though I never won one.  Kinda miss those days.

Re: NaNoWriMo

According to FFN, Butterflies (PG-13) is well over 200,000 words counting author notes.

I've been signing up for NaNoWriMo for the last few years, but I never get close to 50,000.  I didn't sign up last year and probably won't this year either.  I don't have any ideas.

Re: NaNoWriMo

I have friends who've participated in the MaNoWriMo before, but I never have.  I think it helped them realize they could finish something, but that's not my problem.  I don't know what my problem IS, but it's not that. tongue  What was the title of your novel, Thea?

Re: NaNoWriMo

@TeeJay... It can be stressfull, but most of us have a blast doing it... I know I did big_smile
@Deb... There's a similer script writing "comptition" that comes up sometime after NaNo.. I'll have to see if I can find the link again wink
@Justme (Carol?) When I did NaNo last year I did make the 50k mark in the 30 days, but I didn't finish the story.. and honestly thats a big part of
the reason I'm not doing it this year, #1 I don't have the time and #2 I don't want to start another NaNo project till this one is complete.. but it is close wink
If you want to check out the clips I posted last year as well as the cover art I made I'll post the link tonight.. right now it's not letting me
access the site at all sad Anyway, its called Burning Down The Past and it's an original paranormal murder/suspense story wink
Actually... here's the cover big_smile

Re: NaNoWriMo

Great cover!  (When I could still see it.  For some reason I can't now.)  Good luck with finishing it.  One of these Novembers I'll give the challenge a try.  Sounds like fun.

EDIT:  And, yeah, I'm Carol.  There are a few new folks the past few weeks so I'll change my av for awhile.  Though it's not nearly as pretty as the one TeeJay made.

Re: NaNoWriMo

LOL! Glad you signed up, Thea! Any ideas what you're gonna write about yet? Maybe a Joan/Adam fanfic? I once saw an icon that said something like "Yikes, there's too much plot in my porn". smile

Re: NaNoWriMo

LOL.. It's going to be a Potter story wink And I tend to keep the smut to a minium in my NaNo stories.. lol
It's been a while since I've posted something new at HPFF so this will give me a two for one..
And since I plan on posting it there later on I have to keep it relitivly clean because they have very strict rules
when it comes to content wink It's a 12+ forum and the stories can go up to a Mature rating.. which meansa mid to high PG13.. lol
I already have a pretty good outline for the story.. just need to come up with concepts for a few more chapters and I'll be all set
I'll post it all here soon!

Thanks for all the support!!

What's a plot bunny?  And why does that remind me of Python & Holy Grail?

Re: NaNoWriMo

It's a little spark of an idea that multiplies into a story.

Well... not really, but that's the best way I can think to describe it.
