Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

Hey, I might get the chance to meet Chris's German dubbing voice from Race to Witch Mountain at this year's Fantasydays convention. His name is David Nathan. I know, it's not really exciting, and the guy isn't even half as attractive as Chris, but I just thought it was a funny coincidence. If I do get to meet him, I'll definitely mention that I'm running the Marquette fansite. However, since I haven't seen RTWM in German, I can't even judge his work. Though... I will probably have to tell the guy that I despise and try to avoid at all cost what is earning them a living....... Hm.

EDIT: Actually, I got it wrong. The guy was just involved in an audio book that will be presented at the con, he's not actually coming in person. Oh well...

At least you won't have to deal with the awkward situation with the guy's job.

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

I'm pretty sure there is no New York Film Academy in real life.  Could be wrong.  The famous school there is NYU Film School.  Columbia also has a great film program.

Great article. This is the same guy who already wrote an article about Chris about a year ago: http://themovie-fanatic.com/index.php/e … -marquette He also wanted to feature our site at some point, but he never got in touch again after we said we'd love to have him do so.

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

That was a really good article. I liked it smile AWESOME news for Chris too! The paired article of the 10 most over-rated young actors was good too. I definitely agreed with alot of what was said. I havent seen Rupert Grint out of the Harry Potter role though. But this article has me thinking its about time I did!

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

Interning at a production company and working your way up the ladder would be a whole lot cheaper --- since they would be paying you --- and you'd probably learn more.  I met this guy online last year who was in NYU Film School and working on a screenplay and I was stunned at how little he knew about writing scripts.  I sometimes wonder if film school is the right way to go at all.

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

I graduated from USC film school.  I learned a lot about all aspects of filmmaking, made 9 movies which could be used as calling cards, and made friends who would be connections for the rest of my life.  Every job I got in the industry in the first couple of years came as a result of connections I made at USC.  I also left with a college degree.

That said, about half the people I went to film school with never really made it at all in the business.

I don't think I would recommend this new York film academy.  You will pay nearly as much as college, and you won't get a degree.  And Deb is right, working your way up from an intern can be a very good way to get into the business as well.

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

I think this school is probably a lot like American Intercontinental University or Art Institute of Atlanta.  Remember Columbia School of Broadcasting?  There's a reason you don't even need a high school diploma to get into these schools.  They're not "real".  They just want your money.  Lots and lots and lots of it.  If you're determined to go to film school, try to get into a real university with a great film program, like the one Rick mentioned, USC.  Many, many great people came out of that school.

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

I will gladly take all that information and advice to heart and use it well to my advantage. Thank you so much guys. If I ever make it... I will NOT forget all of you and will invite you all to my lovely pad in LA any day of the week and hell Id even pay for all of you to come out myself to have one huge gathering. *huggles Rick and Deb* thanks! I am going to do some more research, including scoping out my local community college of the redwoods here in Humboldt County. They have a film/screenwriters and drama/theater/acting courses and classes up the wazoo here. Definitely something worth checking into because if you graduate those classes with good grades as well as all your basic classes and get your credits they have people from bigger more industrious universities come out to take a look at the leading students and offer full scholarships which can lead to further exploration of those fields and get your foot in the door... Im aiming for that if nothing else... wink

Re: Miscellaneous Stuff

Cool.  But if you ever get a chance to do some interning, do it.  I did.  It's a real education, in the trenches.  And it can be a lot of fun.
