Dear friends,
It's with a saddened heart and a VERY PISSED OFF attitude towards Dell Inc. :witsend: that I regret to inform you once again Dell has screwed me over with my laptops and all of the issues with them by leaving the problems unsolved and uncared for. They have turned a def ear to my needs and are not willing to help me. It has turned out that tonight, this very night, my only working (laughs sarcastically) laptop has rolled over and DIED.
I was in the middle of a project when all of a sudden the screen went black and no matter how hard I tried to reboot and turn it back on it REFUSED to READ THE HARD DRIVE and has shown me NOTHING but a blank screen or a handful of ERROR CODES each time I try to start it up. I have called Dell for several hours now and they have not LIFTED A FINGER to help me and gave me nothing but excuses (as if I didnt already anticipate this behavior from them).
In short I have grown tired of their games and their crap and have decided to ship BOTH laptops back to them and wipe my hands clean of them FOREVER. I think I will report them to the Better Business Bureau and I shall NEVER AGAIN do business with them. Dell's products have been below satisfactory and their customer service is SHODDY at best. They have yelled at me, lied to me, passed me back and forth from person to person over the phone not knowing a darn spot of what they were saying or doing, and have even put me on hold for so long that I either gave up or they disconnected me. I have written an EXTREMELY informative and upset LETTER to their CEO and will be sending that out as well.
I wish to apologize for all of the inconvenience this will cause us when it comes to matter of comunication online. Second Life. E mails. Forums. Skype. All other forms in which you and I have conversed. I will see to it soon... SOON that when I get my money I will begin saving up for a BRAND NEW COMPUTER. And this time IT WONT BE A CRAPTOP (lol)
IT WONT BE A DELL. IT WILL BE SURE TO BE THE BEST DANG COMPUTER MY MONEY CAN BUY, TOP OF THE LINE, SOMETHING THAT WILL WORK AND WILL LAST.
I will be borrowing my room mates computer from time to time to check my E mails and occasionally sign into Second Life. PLEASE understand I wont be able to come on as often as I could have if my laptop hadnt turned into a total piece of worthless junk and Dell had stepped up to the plate to help me fix these issues. If you need to reach me DO NOT hesitate to contact me VIA E-mail.
My address is: morganatwist@yahoo.com
I will check it every chance I get. Please remember that I cant be on as much and have patience with me and this problem. I AM SO SORRY. I love all of you dearly and will DO MY VERY BEST to keep in touch. I DO NOT plan on disappearing so DON'T WORRY.
*HUGS & ALL MY LOVE*
I am TERRIBLY sorry. D:

So sorry to hear you're having computer problems, Bree. Hope you'll be back soon! For a little while I was actually considering buying a Dell, but I have since changed my mind. I was gonna go for a super slim MSI one, but I think now I've decided to go with a Sony VAIO. Currently I'm trying to decide whether to get the SR41 or one of the new CW models that come out at the end of the month. Oh, the variety! I'll probably decide, once I've (hopefully) seen one of the CW models in a store somewhere. Hard to judge when you've never seen it in "person".

Sorry to hear about your computer problems. I hope you'll have a new one soon. I know it's no fun to have no computer ...

Just don't buy an HP. I've had similar problems with them ever since I bought my laptop last year. The DVD Burner died cold hard dead after only burning one pack of 25 discs. And TeeJay can tell you that it's had many issues that we've wrestled with from the beginning. It doesn't like to have things connected via USB for one. I can't get my printer to work with it. The list goes on and on. The fact of the matter is that electronics of any kind are made with cheaper and cheaper parts all the time, just to keep profit margins high so the filthy rich CEO's can get filthy stinking richer.

I guess we should really consider ourselves lucky in Germany. We get a 24 month warranty by law on anything electrical or electronic. My first laptop actually came with a free 36 month warranty (and I used it twice because the DVD drive died. Twice. Sound familiar, Deb?). Also, usually you can just take it back to the store where you bought it and they will get in touch with the manufacturer, though that might only apply for the first year. Luckily, I've never had to fight with any support people on the phone.
I hope I won't regret buying a Sony as my next laptop. I've talked to a friend who's had two Sony laptops and she was really happy with them (except for battery life over time, but I think that's a general laptop problem and not exclusive to Sony).

Don't want to sound like a commercial, but I have a mac, and haven't had any problems. And I have had macs for about 15 years almost problem free.

Yeah, well, when I find a few extra thousand dollars just laying in the street, maybe I'll be able to afford a Mac.

I've actually considered buying a Mac, but it would be a waste of money for me. I'm a Windows person, and will always stay a Windows person. So why pay $1400 for a MacBook that I'm only gonna run Windows on when I can get a Windows machine that can do the same things (and doesn't need some stupid expensive adapter for everything I wanna connect that doesn't have an Apple sign on it) for at least $400 less.

And, gah, I can't decide what model I want! Sony offers the SR model (13.3" with a 1280x800 resolution) and a new CW model (14" with a 1366x768 16:9 resolution). I really can't decide. I think I'd be happier with a 1280x800 screen, but if I take the Blu-ray version, the CR is just too expensive and also doesn't come in the color I'd prefer. The CW Blu-ray model is affordable, but it's heavier and thicker. Argh! What to do???

All of the software which we use in post production was designed for Macs, so everyone I know uses them. (they did eventually make windows versions but apparently they are very unstable). It is amazing how in our own worlds things seem to be all done one way, then you look outside and things are very different.

Don't get me wrong, I think Macs are very cool and I'd buy one immediately if it was just a few hundred bucks cheaper, especially now that you can also run Windows on them. I have actually worked with Macs since the professor of the institute where I did my Master's thesis was a huge Mac fan and we only had Macs there. (This is some odd 8 years ago now.) I liked working with them, but I grew up on Windows computers and I know my way round them pretty much blindly (not so with Macs). Macs are also said to be the real deal when you professionally work with graphics, which I'm sure is true.
I use tons of little programs and tools that just aren't available for Mac but that I pretty much rely on for what I do with the computer. I'm sure I could make do with a Mac eventually, but I'd have to do a lot of learning and I guess I'd also be in for a lot of little frustrations. It's just not something I'm prepared to take on at this stage. It's not like I haven't considered going for the 13" MacBook model, but I didn't entertain the idea for very long.

I think that is the point I was trying to make. It would be the same for me in reverse.

well guys fortunately for me my room mate has a good comp and will share it with me for the time being.
I will still be able to check the MB occasionally but just not as much as before.
So if things become desperate and you really want to chit chat with me then just use my e mail address so I can check it all conveniently in one window and tackle conversations from there. which will also cut down usage time so I'm not hogging his comp lol he needs it for classwork and his own vices.
But I shall try and I will definitely keep everyone posted.
I have a good friend of mine in a nearby town that knows computers VERY WELL and is a specialist.
He is willing to take a look at it and fix it for me for free... WOW. We shall see what happens.
But I SWEAR I AM THIS CLOSE TO SUING THE PANTS OFF OF DELL.
They've given me nothing but GRIEF for the past year with this laptop as it's been on it's death bed even after only THREE MONTHS of me owning it....
*growls* I love you all! Ill keep in touch!!! *hugs*
DON'T GET A DELL PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY OR DAMNED DO NOT! GET! A DELL! LOLZ XD
I'm thinking about a nice.... Gateway Desktop made for gaming and LOTS OF STORAGE on it...
*shrugs* we shall see... I've got to get paid first... uggghhh TWO WEEKS! 14 DAYS
THE TORTURE! THE TORTURE!!! LOLZZ

I've had it for about a half year. I had another acer laptop before for over 2 years and gave it to my mom since I wanted a new laptop for a graduation present. My acer cost about $300.
