He was on the show twice, and no thread for it?
Well. I just watched the Christmas episode "Angel on my Tree". First a few thoughts about the show, because I had never seen TBAA before. I now can understand how it lasted so long. It really isn't my kind of show, but it is very good at what it does. It was dealing with real thoughts and emotions(I always thought it would be more artificial). And it is serious in it's approach, (it would be easy to get lazy or campy, yet this episode was from the 7th season, and it had the feel of excitement you normally only feel in the first few years of a series). It really is a pretty good show, although I probably won't watch it again
Now about Chris, it was interesting that he did play the tourettes in a different way (I did notice one tic he did in both, but otherwise it felt very different). And again, he was playing a wide range of emotions with the tics, and he did it wonderfully. Also, he was handling stuff I rarely see actors that age pull off. Most kids play heavy emotions the way ricky schroeder did in the Champ. It can get you on an emotional level, but you never really believe it.
What Chris was doing at that age feels real, and therefore, I think it has more emotional impact. I bet a lot of casting directors in this town were disappointed when he grew up. He really was a special child actor (that is not meant to say he isn't an excellent actor now).

I really wish I could see both his episodes in halfway decent quality. I've only been able to see them as a tiny WMV video in crappy quality. Kinda hard to judge anything that way, but I did like what Chris did. TBAA and Strong Medicine are probably the things he did as a kid that I'd love to see most in good quality one day. I wish they'd release all of Strong Medicine on DVD, then I'd probably rent the DVDs with Chris episodes on amazon.de.

TeeJay, I thought we saw TBAA on TV at my house. Or maybe it was the other ep with Muhammad Ali? I could be totally wrong though. And I agree with everything you said, Rick. Not my kind of show either, but I see why it was popular with some. And that ep always makes me cry a bucket. Every time.

I don't think we watched it on TV at your place. I think I'd remember that... Maybe we wanted to but didn't?

Rick, have you seen Chris on Judging Amy? Another remarkable kid performance. Would you mind if I share your thoughts on The Tic Code and TBAA with his mom? I think she'd be very moved.

Cool, thanks. What you'll find when you see it is that for most of the ep, you'll wonder what the hell is supposed to be so impressive. Just wait till the end. You'll see.

I've seen the Tourette episode in German a few times, but I prefer the English version, of course. I wish we could get both episodes in better quality. Did they ever release the show on DVD?

They have released a few seasons on DVD, but they haven't got to season 7 yet.

I recently got a hold of episode 7x10 of this show, but it's an English version with Norwegian subtitles. Still, I have extracted the Chris scenes from it and uploaded them to our server. I'll add them to the site some time in the next few days, but I wanted to post the links for you guys now:
::: Touched By An Angel - 7x10 - An Angel On My Tree - part 01
::: Touched By An Angel - 7x10 - An Angel On My Tree - part 02
::: Touched By An Angel - 7x10 - An Angel On My Tree - part 03
::: Touched By An Angel - 7x10 - An Angel On My Tree - part 04
Chris does such an excellent job, playing a kid with Tourette's for the second time. If you've seen The Tic Code, you might notice that the tics Chris does in the TBAA episode are slightly different from the ones he did in TTC. That boy really can act!

Just finished watching the Ali episode. It wasn't as good as the other episode, but they did know how to make tearjeaker TV. It was trying to cover too many things and do too much so it got a little jumbled. And this affected Chris's performance. He played every scene perfectly, but the arc of the performance was a little jumbled. That isn't a criticism of him, it was a weakness of the episode. On the interesting side, it was fun to see him play a tough guy (even if it was just a couple of scenes). He never seems to get to do that. And he was really good in the scene where he stands up to his uncle.
Overall a nice performance, in a watchable episode. But the other TBAA is better.

Same here. Chris's performance in the Tourette's episode stood out a lot more, but mainly because the story of that episode was better. Maybe part of it was also that Chris was older in that episode, had more experience under his belt and knew more about how to get the right reactions through his acting.
I'm trying to remember other movies or roles where he had the chance to stand up to people. I think in a way he did it in American Gun, when he was fighting with his mother. However, Rick, I agree, we haven't really seen him doing a lot of that. He stood up for himself (and others) a few times on JoA, but not in a heated argument kind of situation.

He has played characters who standup for people (most recently in Infestation) but his characters always seem to be coming from a place of weakness. He is never the physically strongest person in the room or emotionally most secure. But in this episode after he had the boxing training (Rocky training sequence), he was a character coming from some physical strength. He actually beat someone up!! I'm not sure I would want to see him play this all the time, but it was intersting to see him play it.
It made me think, He rarely (if ever) plays confident people. And yes I know part of his appeal is his insecurity. But it would be fun to see him play confident characters sometimes.

And yeah, I get what you mean. But I would also say that some of the characters are strong & confident in some areas, but not others. Maybe one day he'll play a true bad ass.

Yeah, I watched the Ali episode last night. It was pretty decent. I assume that my TiVo will record the other episode whenever it airs.
