I wasn't too fond of last week's episode. It was sooo overdone and cliché. Unless they tried to make it a parody, but if that was their intention, IMHO they didn't do it well. I will be much sadder to see Trauma go than Numb3rs, to be honest.

I loved that they plugged it into the whole directed microwave energy beam thing that people say governments have been developing for years. If you're into this stuff, that ep felt like a tiny bit of disclosure. It'll be one of those shows that UFO/gov't conspiracy buffs will cling to for years to come.

I tried to like Numb3rs in the beginning, but I just couldn't stay with it. I'm really sad to hear that "Medium" ratings are only slightly better, however. I hope THAT one lasts for years & years! Love that show!

Yeah, I generally can't get into Numb3rs. Which is weird, because I like the actors in it. But when I read the synopsis of that ep, I knew it was right in my wheelhouse, so I gave it a chance. And it was a hoot.

I just found out what movie I'm going to watch next: Love Happens. (Just not to me, haha.)
The guy at my theatre suggested it when I went there to see My Sister's Keeper a few days ago and I finally managed to see the trailer and I was like "What does Hutch do in that trailer?" LOL

The ratings system is completely pointless, especially the PG-13 rating. I remember a few years ago when my daughter was 7 or 8 there were 2 very different movies which received a PG-13 rating. School of Rock which was completely appropriate for her (even though she was much younger than 13) and Hotel Rowanda which would have needlessly traumatised her. (because she would have been horrified without the ability to learn from it). In fact my son who was 13 at the time wouldn't have been able to process that movie correctly, so it really would have been inappropriate for him as well.

School of Rock recieved a PG-13 rating because it mentioned drug use (even though the 2 times it happened it was in a negative light) and was probably meant to discourage drug use in kids.

That is why I as a parent never used the ratings. In fact, I don't know of any parents who used them.

You're absolutely right, Rick. It is arbitrary. I hoped things might change with that ancient, decrepit Reaganite creep, Jack Valenti finally kicked the bucket, but they haven't. The system has long been in need of an overhaul. But I'm inclined to think it'll never get one. As long as the studios are getting what they want, everything's just fine with them.

Since I'm not a parent, I can't say I've ever really "used" the rating system. But I do often feel terribly disappointed when what should be a grown-up movie gets watered down to achieve a PG-13 cop-out rating. I'm sick to death of being a slave to the tastes of 14-year-old boys.

That wouldn't change if they got rid of the ratings. There would just be a lot more swearing and topless women in the same mindless action movies

By overhaul, I meant change the content that gets adult ratings. Not get rid of the system. They use the rating to lull irresponsible parents into thinking that movies with boobs and mindless violence are OK for their kids. And that's not right. Because far far too many parents just don't pay attention as long as the movie's not rated R. But I've seen R-rated movies that are less disturbing and soul-crushingly empty than what they sell to kids these days.

Breaking Dawn will probably be rated PG-13 because of the teeny-bopper fanbase. :fedup:

And on that note i agree with the rating system being crap, but it really is only supposed to be used as an indication of what to expect in regards to language, violence, nudity and my favourite the ambiguous "adult themes". Though I can remember years ago taping National Lampoons Vacation from TV and the rating was R....its now PG13....shows how leniant we have gotten. *shrug*
