Re: Randomness

So how is everybody doing. The UK has been bombarded with snow once again, which gives me 2 confirmed days of work. Thats the great thing about working in a school.

I'm going to try and get back on this as much as possible. Theres so much to do at the moment.

Re: Randomness

Thursday?  I thought it was going to happen on Friday.  I'm not driving in it.  I'll be telecommuting.  Last time I tried to go in during inclimate weather, my car slid across black ice and smacked into a curb.  Broke my wheel cover, knocked my front end awack.  Cost me $550.

Now they're saying it might snow anytime in the pm on Thursday. I really hope it doesn't.

Re: Randomness

I could get by telecommuting.  But I'd rather it not stick.  It's so early in the year it makes me worried about the rest of the winter.

Re: Randomness

Apparently this weekend we're gonna get what the UK had these past few days: Tons of new snow. There's still an inch or so on the ground right now. I don't mind the snow too much on a weekend when I don't have to drive anywhere, but I'm not too excited about it either. Guess that means I'm not gonna watch Avatar again this weekend. tongue

Jane is in the shop today. I haven't had a working windshield washer system since before Christmas. At first I thought it was just a case of it being frozen solid, but apparently there's something wrong with the switch of the steering wheel lever. They were only able to order the spare part they need this week. And I can tell you, it's no fun to drive on the motorway in winter without a windshield washer when they're using road salt. Not an experience I wanna repeat.

Theres so much snow here, that you can't see where the path ends and the road starts. We had the exact same thing last Monday. I was really lucky that time, as I came out of watching New Moon just as it started to snow.

Re: Randomness

Dallas finds any excuse to shut down schools. Even if there are just patches of ice people don't know how to handle it! Hallf of the school districts were closed and it wasn't even that bad on the roads.  I have an interview tomorrow at a school and I hope for that sake the weather will be better.  The school was closed today.

Re: Randomness

Well, see, I go to get Jane from the shop, and she's gonna be in the shop again next week, I guess. I had a fender bender today due to icy roads. And I caused it. Thankfully, the person in front of me was a colleague I work closely with, but it's still really annoying. And it's gonna be expensive because my whole front of the car is pushed inwards so that the hood doesn't actually close properly anymore. Well done. Let's see what the insurance says when I call them tomorrow. Then again, luckily no one got hurt. Thank goodness for small favors.

Re: Randomness

And another day off tomorrow. For a school has rarely closes when it needs to be, this is surprising to keep it shut for 3 days.

That sucks, TeeJay.  That's why if it's bad tomorrow, I'm staying home and working in my PJs.  I'm never wrecking my car again trying to go to/from work in bad weather again.

Re: Randomness

WHOOOOOOOOOOA! Hahaha we really dont have proper winters here in Australia. I have only ever seen snow twice! Both times I had to drive like 6 hours to go up the mountain to find it too, and it was still only like -4 degrees C or 25F. We have been seeing the US and the UK on tv lately showing all these people stuck in the snow. Flights grounded and trains, buses not working. Kinda scary considering I wanna be over in Europe this time next year.

Is it weird to wish a dead guy a happy birthday on his Facebook page?

Yes. tongue

As to my little accident, it was on the way to an after-work company outing. Which is probably a good thing because it took my mind off things. At home by myself I probably would have been annoyed all night about it. The way I see it, it'll cost me at least 300 EUR (which is the co-pay rate for my car insurance). If that's all it'll cost me, I guess I can consider myself lucky because it really looks to me like the bumper and the vehicle grill needs some serious work. Not so much because it's broken but because it's pushed inwards. But it might also be an easy thing to fix. I don't know much about cars, so it's hard for me to judge this kind of stuff.

And it's pointless to worry about it until I actually get Jane to the shop to let them let them look at it. Which might not be before next week. It's my first accident since I don't know when, and back then (maybe 10 years ago) my mom did all the insurance stuff and car fixing because it was her car. Like I said, it's mostly annoying and I should really feel lucky that it's nothing more than a bit of plastic and metal. Bummer is that I wanted to sell the car early this year and buy a used Mazda 3. Now I'll get less money for Jane because she's a so-called "damaged car". Over here we have a policy where you have to tell the buyer that your car was once in an accident and you always get less money if that's the case.

Which is why I'm going to bed now. Another day, another dollar.

Yeah, it's good that you can afford it.  But it's still a bummer that it happened.

Yep. It was on Astronomy Picture Of The Day.

So... Atlanta is under a sheet of ice this morning.  And I'm working from home.  It's like 20 degrees and feels like 5.

I'm quite happy that I'm home again ... the roads here are so full of snow, I think I've never seen so much snow in one place. I HATE SNOW!!! I WANT IT TO GO AWAY!!! At least for my birthday, please. I am not going to leave the house this weekend.
