2010 Oscars

What do you all think of this year oscar nominations?  There were an interesting variety.  I was happy for Jeremy Renner and also for District 9.

Re: 2010 Oscars

Yeah, I'm with you on those.  There's a lot of great stuff nominated this year.  Should be a really fun show.

Re: 2010 Oscars

It's always hard for me to say a lot about Oscar nominations/winners because mostly the movies nominated have either not been released in Germany yet or I haven't seen them. The only ones of the movies nominated this year that I've seen are Avatar, Inglourious Basterds, Up In The Air and District 9. And just for the record, even though I love Avatar to bits, I don't think it deserves an Oscar for Best Movie. The story and the dialogues just weren't good enough.

Re: 2010 Oscars

I rented The Hurt Locker yesterday, but I didn't have enough time to finish watching it with the game and everything.  But it's definitely an excellent movie.  And Jeremy's flat-out amazing in it.

Re: 2010 Oscars

TeeJay, agree with you on avatar. Love the movie, but didn't deserve the best picture nomination.  I feel personally it was nomianted for the technological aspect of filming and visually and not so much for the storyline.  I can't believe there were 10 nominations! Kind of unfair to the other categories don't you think?! lol

I hope Up In The Air wins a few, even though I haven't seen the movie yet. But hopefully, soon I will. smile

Yes, I'm predicting that Up in the Air will get best screen play since it has at the golden globes and screen actors guild. I was really happy for anna kendrick's nomination.

By the way, here is a list of the films and their categories.... http://www.moviefone.com/oscars-academy … nee-winner

Re: 2010 Oscars

You know, the other day I looked something up, and I couldn't believe it. This whole time I was waiting for The Hurt Locker to come to German theaters. Then I looked it up online and I found out that it already seems to have been in theaters in August 2009. Great. Obviously didn't show anywhere in OV, otherwise I probably would have noticed. It's already out on DVD, but even though I wanna see it, I don't wanna spend 15 EUR on a movie where I don't know whether I'm gonna like it or not.

I guess I'm gonna see it eventually, the trailer looked intense and good. And of course it'll be great to see Jeremy in a starring role.

Re: 2010 Oscars

You guys don't have anything like Netflix over there?  No way to rent DVDs?  You just have to either buy everything you wanna see or not see it?  I loved the movie, but I'm certainly not gonna encourage you to buy it sight unseesn.

Re: 2010 Oscars

We have something like Netflix, but it's too expensive for my taste since I already know I'm not gonna use it enough to make it worth my while. We also have video rentals, but I'd always have to drive at least fifteen minutes to get to the closest one. And often you also have to pay a kind of membership fee. For what? The two DVDs I'm gonna rent a year?

Re: 2010 Oscars

I love my Netflix.  It's allowing me to catch up on TV shows I've missed as well as movies.  Which is great.  Some months I rent 7 or 8 titles.

Re: 2010 Oscars

I love netflix too. Couldn't survive without it.  Did you hear the producer of the Hurt Locker is banned from attending this years academy awards because they strongly urged the baord members of the academy to nominate their film! Craziness. Everyone knows you can't do that!

Yeah, and they're also been a bunch of negative campaigns this year.  It's so stupid.

Re: 2010 Oscars

I just realized it must've been very sad for Kathryn Bigelow tonight watching the In Memorium presentation.  She directed Ron Silver in Blue Steel and Patrick Swayze in one of my all time favorite films, Point Break.
