Re: Misc Stuff

Love Burton & Depp together.  I'll watch anything they do.  Only once was I ever disappointed.  I could barely keep my eyes open during The Corpse Bride.  But then Johnny wasn't onscreen because it was animated.

Re: Misc Stuff

I want to see Alice, I am just not willing to pay the 3D prize because I can't see 3D and my theatre has only the 3D version. Well, maybe I'll see it on a Tuesday. I went to see The Men Who Stare At Goates today. Couldn't really make sense of it, though. Maybe that's one movie I should see in German.

Yeah, I don't care about 3D.  I'll see Alice on a regular screen.

Re: Misc Stuff

The Forgotten was wonderful again tonight and pulled a helluva twist for the season finale.  The only thing that weakened it was the cheesy monologue at the end restating the show's theme.  Otherwise, very cool.  Coulda used more Elisha, but maybe next year, eh?  If it comes back.  Anyone heard anything?

I like Burton except I don't like Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. I think its an insult to the original Willy Wonka.

Re: Misc Stuff

It's incredibly emotional.  I promise you, you have NEVER seen Colin Farrell like this.  So beautiful.  Everyone is great.  Dallas Roberts is utterly heartbreaking.  It absolutely guts me and stays with me for days every time I see even part of it.  And I mean that in a good way.

Re: Misc Stuff

I'm interested to see what others think of Alice in Wonderland.  I actually hated it.  This is due in large part to the fact that I was expecting Alice in Wonderland -- the book version.  It's a totally new story about Alice returning to Wonderland when she's older, and in my opinion it doesn't come close to the original.  I was really disappointed b/c I think Burton could have done a fantastic job with the original story.  I always found the original terrifically twisted and Burton's actually came off as more childish to me.  And I agree with EOcean (Melody right?) -- I'm over the Depp/Burton thing.  I really love a lot of Burton's older stuff and I just don't feel like his recent films measure up.  To me it seems he's lost his originality.  And I love Depp just as much as the next person, he's incredible, but I generally don't love him in Burton's films.  The weirdness just never quite feels right to me.  Anyway, like I said, curious to see what others think.
I loved Shutter Island and would absolutely recommend it.  Very trippy and keeps you thinking.  Felt like I got my money's worth with that one.
I'm disappointed to see that Repo Men got such lousy reviews -- I was really hoping for a good sci-fi flick.  Of course Surrogates (another sci-fi film that was in theaters last fall) didn't get terribly good reviews and I thought it was pretty rad.  I guess I just dig the sci-fi/action thing.  I think I'll still give Repo Men a chance.

Re: Misc Stuff

Olivia, I moved this into the Square Eyes section, hope you don't mind. smile

I've never read Alice in Wonderland, and I didn't have a special interest in the movie. I saw the 3D trailer in front of every viewing of Avatar that I went to, and it didn't speak to me either. I'm not much into Tim Burton or Johnny Depp either, so there was really no reason for me to see the movie.

I really wanted to see Surrogates, but it didn't show without dubbing anyhwere in the area, so I'm gonna find a way to catch it on DVD at some point. Right now I'm looking forward to seeing Daybreakers on Saturday.

Re: Misc Stuff

Repo Men was cool.  Won't change your life, but if you dig sci-fi/"somtime in the not too distant future..." style films, you'll prob enjoy it.  It's got a good twist at the end.  Squeezed it in between a meeting and work -- I love a good matinee wink

I'd like to see that one, but it'll probably be a wait for DVD.  I enjoy the hell out of Jude Law and it looks pretty cool.

Re: Misc Stuff

Deb, have you seen a 3D movie in the theater? I mean, a real, modern 3D movie. Not like the cheap ones they show in theme parks... I personally think 3D is amazing and really adds to the cinematic experience. If I had a choice, I would always choose 3D over 2D. Yes, of course it's overpriced, but I don't think it's something we really have the power to change, unless all living cinema-goers unite and boycott. Ain't gonna happen, so...

Re: Misc Stuff

Nope.  Not my thing.  Just don't care.  And since I doubt they'll start making indies and other smaller, human films in 3-D, it's not something that really effects me.  I just think all the hoohaw is kinda silly, like Roger.

Way to judge something you don't know anything about. But I totally get it. You don't wanna like it. Just like I'm determined not to like any movie "R-Patz" is in, no matter how good people say it is.

Re: Misc Stuff

You do remember that big blockbuster type movies do not turn me on at all, right?  What movies are 3-D?  Big blockbusters, CGI, stuff like that.  Stuff I don't care about seeing whether they're in 3-D or not.  I don't need to bungee jump to know I won't like it.  I hate heights, therefore flying around at the end of a rubber band doesn't appeal to me.  Same principle.

I watched Daybreakers in the theater yesterday at a film festival. It was scary and good. I had a really good time. Finally a vampire movie where the vampires don't sparkle when they are hit by sunlight. tongue

Re: Misc Stuff

It's nothing for the feeble-minded. It has quite a few scare moments, though I guess they come across much scarier on the big screen than at home on a TV set in ambient volume. And there's lots of blood and gore. I'm sure it had an R-rating in the US. I'm thinking about buying the DVD when it comes out, though. US release date is some time in May, I think.
