Robert Culp Dead at 79

This makes me very sad.  I loved this guy.  I was a huge fan of The Greatest American Hero, as I've said here before.  I also loved I,Spy.

And he was a 3 time killer on columbo.  Which was the coolest.

Oh yeah!  Forgot about that.  He was!  He was just too cool.  I remember when he did a guest spot on the Cosby Show.  They still had chemistry!

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

That's such a shame that he had such a tragic accident!  He looked like he really tried to take care of himself and stay in shape.  He was a terrific actor.  And has a son who is a terrific actor, too.

Is 3 times a record on Colombo?  If it is, I never would've guessed it was held by Mr. Culp.  I'd have put my money on Patrick McGoohan.

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

Not sure if it's a record on Columbo, but he did hold the record for The Outer Limits.  He did three guest shots on that show too.  Demon With A Glass Hand, written by Harlan Ellison, is one of the best hours in the history of TV.  I bought it on tape as soon as the Outer Limits collection came out...

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

He and William Katt had great chemistry.  I think by the time they were a few eps in, they were making up their own dialog half the time.  And remember how Bill would eat dog biscuits and neither Ralph nor Pam would mention it, they'd just look at him funny?  That killed me.

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

As to the Columbo record.  On the original show the record is 3 with Robert Culp and Jack Cassidy bothe playing the killer 3 times.  But if you add in all of the new episodes in the late 80s and the movies in the 90s, then the record was 4 with yes Patrick Macgoohan playing the killer 4 times (2 old series, one new series, one movie).  And yes I HAVE spent way too much time watching Columbo.

Hey, nothing wrong with watching a great show over and over.  I have shows like that, of course.

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

I love those old Columbos.  The ones from the 80s were good, but he just didn't look like he was having as much fun as he did the first time around.  In fact I loved all the shows on the old "Sunday Mystery Movie" series.  It's so much fun to catch an old Columbo, McMillan & Wife, or Hec Ramsey.  But Columbo was the best!

I remember Robert Culp killing a guy at his gym and Columbo could tell that the victim hadn't tied his own shoes, so that's how he got him.  I think the other time he killed either his wife or girlfriend.  But I don't remember any details.

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

Oh you have just set me going...

The first time he was a security expert and he killed his girlfriend by accident, and he kept trying to bribe Columbo with a high paying job.  Columbo catches him with a contact lens in Culp's trunk.

Second time he was the GM of a football team and he creates an alibi of being in the owners box during a football game when he is actually murdering Dean Stockwell in a swimming pool with a piece of ice.

The third time he is a maker of motivational films and uses subliminal cuts to get a client to go to the lobby at a specific time so he can shoot him.

The shoes being tied wrong was Robert Conrad.  Yes, I have seen these episodes WAY too much.

Yep!  I can't help but smile when Bill's eating those dog treats!  Yeah, it will be sad the next time I watch the show.

Re: Robert Culp Dead at 79

Yeah, that's the set I mean.  William Katt was at the FX Show in '07 (where I saw Chris) to promote it.  His line was REALLY long, so I never got near him.  LOL!
