I think it's called The Open Road.  JT is a minor league baseball player.  Mary's his mom and she's sick or dying or something and Jeff is the estranged dad.  Somebody else cool is in it too.  Kate Mara, maybe?  Been a long time.  I could look it up, but I'm busy.

It is the Open Road Deb, here is the link to imdb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1007018/    Just for reference.

The hurt Locker appeared on dvd and in theater the same time in Texas.

Re: 2010 Oscars

The Open Road open here in LA last summer, very briefly.  And I am pretty sure it is out on DVD already.  I would check netflix Deb.

Yep.  Added and sent to #1.  Thanks, Rick.  Been meaning to check.  I've got Let The Right One In at the moment.  Gonna watch that this weekend, I hope.

Re: 2010 Oscars

I just finished watching The Hurt Locker. I find it incredibly hard to judge whether it really deserved Best Movie. And it's impossible to compare it to Avatar, because they're worlds apart. The Hurt Locker is a great film, if not one that can be really liked. It was very intense, and (though I can't judge this either) felt true to what war must really be like down there in Iraq. The Hurt Locker definitely had the better story, and definitely had-- I wouldn't say the better actors, but offered much more of a platform for the actors to actually be great. Jeremy Renner was fantastic, but everyone else was too.

I think this movie will leave a lasting impression, and that is to say a lot, especially since I only saw it on DVD and not in the theater.

Re: 2010 Oscars

Yep, I would agree with that for the most part.  I think I might've liked it a little better than you though.  I'm a longtime fan of the director so I found myself absorbed by her amazing visual style just like always.  She just has this way of capturing flat-out iconic images onscreen that I find unforgettable.  And emotionally, I think THL blew right past Jarhead, which I loved.

Today I came across the Hurt Locker DVD and thought about buying it, but then I am not that sure if I want to own that movie ...
