Re: Avatar

  That's great.  Did you buy it at the video store?  I'm glad you got it, if you wanted it.  Are you gonna put anything on the shelves?

Re: Avatar

I got it for free at my local supermarket. The lady there was awesome and gave it to me, even though they hadn't sold all the DVDs yet that were on it. I'm using the shelves to hold some of my bags and handbags. Maybe not the best way to use them, but I had all my bags in that corner before, so I thought it was fitting.

Re: Avatar

Okay, so I decided that a DVD stand needs to hold DVDs, so I've honored Chris in putting all my Chris DVDs on my Avatar cutout. Of course my Avatar collection needed to go on there as well, as well as my Lord of the Rings extended editions and some other movies I really like.

Hey, come on, you'd totally put it up if it was a Twilight cutout of Edward and Bella! big_smile

Re: Avatar

Uhm ... no, I wouldn't. I'm not that big into cutouts. The one thing I had in my room was that big New Moon poster, but now it's not even there anymore. I happily buy the books and the DVDs, but that's it basically.
Besides, that thing is German. And I try to avoid everything German about Twilight. tongue

Re: Avatar

Yeah, I guess you could say that. It's not so much that I would say it's the perfect movie, I know it has flaws, and I acknowledge them. But Avatar has just captivated and impressed me like no other movie has. There are many, many other movies out there that I think are wonderful, but Avatar is definitely the movie I've seen in theaters most.

Re: Avatar

Woohoo. I just got back home from seeing Remember Me for the second time and guess what happened! They gave me a poster from the movie FOR FREE (oh, wait - I wasn't supposed to tell anybody! LOL) because I'm a regular customer and they knew how much I was waiting for the movie to come.
So yeah, I'm going to put it on the wall in my apartment soon. You can call me a geek now. LOL But hey, at least I tried to give Avatar a chance and I know people here who won't see Remember Me, so I can't take you seriously anymore. tongue wink

Re: Avatar

I'll see it.  On DVD.  It sounds really good.  And I don't have any prejudices whatsoever against Mr. Pattinson.

Re: Avatar

Yeah, well, I can't help it. I just don't like the guy and don't have a very high opinion of him. Which may be based on wrong impressions, but I'm just not keen on paying money for a movie I'm not particularly interested in seeing in when I couldn't care less about the cast either. I might watch it some day if, like, one of my colleagues asked me to make a copy or if it was showing on a flight to the US or something.

Re: Avatar

I don't know enough about "Avatar" to have much curiosity about it.  I'm sure I'll see the DVD eventually.  I'm not a big sci-fi person, for one thing.  But I usually like James Cameron's work, so I'll give it a shot.

What I like about Pattinson is that he seems to be having the time of his life.  It's like he knows he's the luckiest SOB on the planet and he's gonna enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.  That's always fun to watch.  UNTIL...he starts getting into typical young-actor excesses like destroying cars, hotel rooms, etc; abusing various substances; being caught with Hollywood Blvd. hookers; and basically taking all the success for granted, like it's no more that his due.  So far, I'm okay with him.

Re: Avatar

Yeah, at least Pattinson seems like a decent chap and not a pants-pooping, fat-headed, self-indulgent creep.

Oh, I totally get it that people aren't interested much in the movie or its premise. Let me just tell you that on DVD it won't be half as good as on the big screen. Avatar really lives from the images. And on the small TV screen I just can't see it coming across the way it's supposed to. I still hope you enjoy the movie when you watch it. smile

And, you know, I can't even judge Robert Pattinson. I have no idea what he does outside of acting. I just don't follow that stuff at all. You know how some people you don't even know seem unlikeable and totally unappealing to you without you having a real reason to dislike them? Well, that's Pattinson for me. Add to that the fact of him being the new teen idol that kids faint and scream over when he's merely in their sight, and I have even more of a natural, if totally unfounded antipathy. As an actor, he's not impressed me in either of the Twilight movies, so I don't have a desire to watch him in anything else.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what he does with all this acclaim.  After "Titanic" DiCaprio tried to do interesting work and not rely solely on his teenybopper fanbase.  I hope "RPatz" does that.  Then maybe you'll acquire a little respect for him.

Ditto. Although I think he did interesting work even before the Twilight hype started. (Ever seen "How To Be"? That's the kind of quirky little [British] comedy I like. LOL)

Re: Avatar

Haha! lol Probably not a whole lot, though, as it seems to be coming only to select theaters and only in 3D. Chances are slim that it'll show anywhere in OV within a drivable radius. I will (hopefully) be seeing it in IMAX with a few fans from the Netherlands and Germany on Sep 4th, as we're having a little naviblue.com meetup in the Netherlands, but that might actually be my only chance.

Re: Avatar

Btw, you can officially declare me geek-crazy. I'm willing to spend 90 EUR on the limited collector's Blu-ray edition of Avatar. :embarrassed: I'm hoping that amazon.co.uk will offer it cheaper at some point, though. It's not listed there yet. Comes out on Nov 15.
