best JoA moments

We have a few good starter threads already, but to give people some different things to reply to when they start finding us, why don't we create some thread ideas?  A few just came to me.

1) Best Opening A/J scene
2) Best Closing A/J scene
3) Best Kiss
4) Best Joan/Other moment
5) Best Adam/Other moment
...or, we can do that for each other major character, like Best Adam/Helen or Joan/Helen moment, etc.  I think we know what Adam/Grace scene a lot of us would pick, for example
6) Best use of a song for an A/J moment (Collide of course for me)

You know, stuff like that.  Make up your own.

Re: best JoA moments

Thanks, Deb, for the suggestions. So, let me start on this one.

1) Best Opening A/J scene
Tough one. How many are there? And do you mean just the first scene with Joan and Adam in any episode, or actually episodes where the very first scene is a Joan/Adam scene? How many are there? You know, I have a hard time coming up with either. I think I'd have to research this some more. I remember one opening scene in the school hallway that involved talk about cream chicken to be offered in the cafeteria, but I wouldn't peg this as a great moment.

2) Best Closing A/J scene
Without a doubt 2x07 P.O.V. It's my all time favorite Joan/Adam scene. ADAMNEEDSAHUG! (Well, he does get one, so..... Maybe that's why I like it so much.)

3) Best Kiss
Also without a doubt the one at the end of 2x15 Romancing The Joan. Probably the most intense kiss between the two of them (casting aside the serious make-out scene in Adam's camper in Independence Day). I love that scene. I love that shot. I love that kiss.

4) Best Joan/Other moment
Hm... Best Joan/Grace moment? There's two that come to mind right now. One: Grace tells Joan how Adam's mother died in Jump. Two: Grace and Joan talk about gifts and condoms and sex in The Gift. Best Joan/Helen moment: Joan talks to Helen about how it's completely irrational that she is jealous of Iris in... uh... can't remember the episode. There are tons of other great moments, but this is the one that just came to mind.

5) Best Adam/Other moment
Best Adam/Grace moment, yes, Deb, you said it: Adam and Grace talk in the biology closet about what Adam should do, now that Helen knows that he tried to sleep with Joan. God, I love that scene!! What ep was that? Secret Service? Best Adam/Helen moment would have to be the one from Jump, where Helen reads Elizabeth's letter to Adam. But there are more great moments, too. For instance when she tells him in Secret Service why she chose Nicky Freezer to do the art presentation instead of him at the end.

6) Best use of a song for an A/J moment
Yes, of course Colilde is a wonderful example. But my favorite is probably Wreck of the Day in Spring Cleaning. ("Driving away from the wreck of the day, and I'm thinking about calling on Jesus.") Made me buy the Anna Nalick album. Wait, strike that. I'd like to correct that to Across The Universe by Fiona Apple. Granted, the first scene that song was used doesn't involve Adam, but the other two do. And I thought it was a great choice in music. But the Anna Nalick song is a close second, to be followed by Collide. This show had such a lot of great music for great moments.

Wowwow, I'll do that later. I have to think about my decisions very good. I still have to rewatch an amount of Season 2 episodes. I'll do it, but I'll do it later, ok?

Re: best JoA moments

it's like 5 in the morning, i had the worst ideea, and i just watched the episode where judith dies, and now i'm crying my eyes out. it's very weird to say this, but this was the most beautiful episode so far. i mean i even loved freedman in this episode. the acting is just awsome, and the lines... some of the best lines. like when joan says she loved judith and and adam says he knows , and that he doesn't know why that doesn't matter. just so sad but at the same time the episode is so full of love.
i'm going to hate this, because i have to wake up in like 2 hours and go to work. insomnia sucks!
lots of kisses to you girls, because there is no one else here, and nothing sucks more then seeing a great movie and not having who to tell. ok, now i'll hit myself over the head, maybe i'll fell asleep 'cause othewise i'm in deep problems.

Re: best JoA moments

Hey, I totally hear ya, girl!  I love that ep so much.  I get stuck on the beautiful screen caps from it sometimes.  You're right, it's full of love.  All kinds of knotted-up love.  It's fantastic and Adam is so amazingly, emotionally alive in it.  I've written quite a lot about it and I look forward to and dread writing about it in our episode recaps here on the site.  But I will be doing so in the near future.  You know I might as well pull over my Friday Night thread from Melissa's board too.  Why not?

Re: best JoA moments

Hey! this will be my first post!

1) Best Opening A/J scene
unfortunately i have been super deprived of joan of arcadia lately so i can't remember most of these things...
2) Best Closing A/J scene
i absolutely agree with teejay here, the end of POV is amazing
3) Best Kiss
i once again agree with teejay, that is such an intense kiss!
4) Best Joan/Other moment
i like the scenes between joan and everybody else when they are freaking out about missing adam...i can't remember the name of the episode...common thread?
5) Best Adam/Other moment
i really love the scene between helen and adam when she reads his mother's letter to him. joan is there, but she doesn't really do anything...i just think helen is the ideal mother in that scene, i would kill to have her as my mom!
6) Best use of a song for an A/J moment
unfortunately collide was the song for my ex and i, and we had a really horrible breakup so i can't listen to that song anymore without crying...but i must admit that song is used beautifully in that scene, and that's why we picked it as our song!

Thanks for posting, eternalghost.  After the day I had on IMDB getting personally attacked for defending Chris, it was nice to come home and see someone saying something positive and constructive.

Re: best JoA moments

Yes, I absolutely feel the same way Deb did, except I only read this this morning in the office. What a nice thing to start the day with, thank you, eternalghost. Yesterday was both frustrating with the IMDb jerks (and my painfully hurting shoulder, which is better as of now) and uplifting with Gary Lundgren e-mailing us and saying such nice things. I just hope today will not bear as many frustrating moments as yesterday did.

Re: best JoA moments

Here is my choice finally ...

1) Best Opening A/J scene
I agree with TeeJay here, it's hard to find one. Maybe I'd pick the cream chicken scene too, because that's the only scene I remember right now and for Season 2 I can
only remember the scene from Out Of Sight, but I'm not sure if it was really an opening scene and it's also not a favorite one for me.

2) Best Closing A/J scene
Yes, I love the closing scene of P.O.V. too, but I have to pick Recreation because that's my alltime favorite scene. wink Oh, and the end of "No Bad Guy of course. Love
that one, too.

3) Best Kiss
I agree here:

Also without a doubt the one at the end of 2x15 Romancing The Joan. Probably the most intense kiss between the two of them (casting aside the serious make-out scene in Adam's camper in Independence Day). I love that scene. I love that shot. I love that kiss.

4) Best Joan/Other moment
I can agree with TeeJay on the Grace moments, but my favorite Joan/God scene is probably the one from the pilot where Joan wants a proof that he's really God and
he goes: "That's a tree. Let's see you make one." LOL

5) Best Adam/Other moment
I agree completely here:

Best Adam/Grace moment, yes, Deb, you said it: Adam and Grace talk in the biology closet about what Adam should do, now that Helen knows that he tried to sleep with Joan. God, I love that scene!! What ep was that? Secret Service? Best Adam/Helen moment would have to be the one from Jump, where Helen reads Elizabeth's letter to Adam. But there are more great moments, too. For instance when she tells him in Secret Service why she chose Nicky Freezer to do the art presentation instead of him at the end.

6) Best use of a song for an A/J moment
Mmmmh, next to Wreck Of The Day and Across the Universe my favorite song is "Tell me", which was played when Adam and Joan were dancing at the End of Recreation.

Re: best JoA moments

I know this doesn't really fit in here, but I didn't want to start another thread. Kimberly (over on fanforum.com) made this really cute and kinda sad video:
http://www.4shared.com/file/10401163/70 … s_you.html

I don't like Coldplay much, but I love the scenes she picked. I just wish people would learn how to operate their video software so that 16:9 videos show up as such, and not as some squished 4:3 version. But maybe that's just me being finicky...

I hate Chris Martin's voice.  He sounds so wimpy and unsure of himself.  Yuck.

I agree with Deb's assessment of Coldplay -  they are wimpy, and if you listen to the lyrics it just gets worse.

Besides, all their songs sound the same, you can't distinguish between them.

Re: best JoA moments

Since he is the subject of the board I should say something about Chris

Favorite Adam moment is when Helen reads Adam's Mom's letter in "Jump".  It probably would have been a wonderful scene anyway, but what makes it amazing is Chris's performance.  Watching his face in that scene you can see the intense pain of his loss, and the joy of the knowledge that he was not only not responsible for his mother's death, but he actually gave her, her only happiness.  You can see both emotions at the same time.  Actors rarely accomplish such a moment.

Joan: So, my true nature is to be a catalyst? That is mad anti-climatic.
God: Anti climactic. Anti-climatic means you're against the weather.

Re: best JoA moments

Well, Rick, from running a site about him, you'd have to tell that we're obviously infatuated with the guy, right? wink But I couldn't agree more, that scene from Jump is just wonderful. One of my favorite moments too.

However, my favorite Adam moment is probably still the one from the end of POV, where he just breaks down, watching his mother on the TV screen. And I hate to admit it, but I think the Chris moment that impressed me most (even though it's the Joan/Adam moment I hate most) is when Joan breaks up with Adam in Trial & Error. Chris was great, giving us all of Adam's pain and confusion and guilt. I believed it. I wanted to slap him and hug him at the same time. That was some amazing acting, both on Amber's and Chris's part.

I don't suppose you've read the interview we did with Chris, have you? He talked about how much he hated what the authors did with that episode. If you're interested in reading it, we can copy and paste that passage here for you.

Yeah, that too. That was a piece of really great acting from both of them. It still makes my heart wrench when I watch it.
