Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

OK, so Reelz Channel reports that Colin Farrell and Toni Collette have signed onto the Fright Night remake.  Uh... huh?  I can see Colin as Jerry Dandridge, I suppose.  But who the heck is Toni gonna play?  Unless they make a movie that's completely different from the original.  But that's not what has been previously reported.  They said it was going to be basically the same story.  The only grown-up woman in the original cast was Charley Brewster's mom.   And that's just a tiny role.  Wonder if they're planning to combine the plots FN & FN2.  If so, yeah, I can kinda see Toni as Regine.  They've got me curious now...

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

Holy crap!  How did I not know this?  Scotty G is playing Will Scarlet in the new Robin Hood movie.  That's HUGE for him.  Wonder if Russell Crowe got him the gig.  They previously worked together in the charming small town hockey dramedy, Mystery, Alaska.  Been YEARS since I've seen Scott on the big screen.  I'm totally there now.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

I have to admit it looks pretty epic, but I don't think I'm going to watch it. Not too interested in seeing another adaptation, even though I heard that this one tells the story of how Robin Longstride became Robin Hood. Hope you enjoy it, though. Looks like a lot of fun.

Yeah, it's like Robin Hood: The Beginning.  LOL!  I wasn't interested in it either till I saw a ton of clips last night with Scotty in them.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

Robin Hood was so much fun!  I loved it.  It was gritty and funny and fast-paced and there are so many great people in it.  Mark Strong is fast becoming a world class villain.  Mark Addy was his usual wonderful self as Friar Tuck.  And Russell and Cate seemed to be having an absolute blast.  My Scotty was very heroic and funny too.  Haven't seen his yummy red hair that thick since he was a kid.  Can't wait to find a bunch of cool stills.  The ending was perfect and totally sets everything up for sequels.  Hope it makes some money so they'll make more.

Oh, and I'm convinced now that Russell got Scotty the job because he's one of the producers on the movie.  Plus, Kevin Durand was in it too and he was also in Mystery, Alaska.  Guess what DVD I'm about to watch...

OK, first, we obviously need another MiB movie like we need a hole in the head.  roll

But OK, I'll acquiesce to this since they've picked one my favorite humans on the planet to be the villain...

Anchor Bay Strikes Deal for Darkness
Posted on May 14th, 2010 by Riikka

Anchor Bay Films has acquired North American rights to Marcos Efron's remake of the 1970 British thriller And Soon The Darkness starring Amber Heard in a reported seven-figure deal.

Odette Yustman, Karl Urban and Adriana Barraza also star in the story about two girls whose bike tour through a remote part of Argentina becomes a terrifying ordeal after one of them goes missing. Jennifer Derwingson co-wrote the screenplay with Efron.

StudioCanal is handling international sales here and co-produced and co-financed with Abandon Pictures in the parties' first collaboration. Karen Lauder, Lizzie Friedman and Deborah Marinoff Marcus produced and Heard co-produced.

Anchor Bay plans to roll out the film theatrically in autumn. "We are pleased to add such a frightening and entertaining thriller to our roster," Anchor Bay Entertainment president Bill Clark said.

Senior vice-president of acquisitions Kevin Kasha, Josh Thomashow and Richard Turner negotiated the deal with WME Global on behalf of StudioCanal and Abandon Pictures.

StudioCanal and Abandon Pictures recently announced their second project, a remake of Jean-Paul Rappeneau's 1975 comedy Le Sauvage that originally starred Catherine Deneuve and Yves Montand. Lauder and Friedman will produce.

Hollywood Needs A Revolution!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/julie-gra … 16934.html

Could not agree more with this article. But no one listens to me because I'm one of those bitter aspiring screenwriters who spent YEARS learning the craft, only to be completely unable to "get over the moat". Even though I had an agent for a year.

Hollywood is simply not interested in anything new. They only want what's pre-sold. That's why everything is always a sequel, prequel, remake, reboot, comic book, TOY(!), or lousy TV show adaptation. Unlike the author, I do not see this changing anytime soon. I see it getting progressively worse until there is absolutely ZERO originality left anywhere.

Every year, I am utterly appalled at how much money is thrown at making this slop. And at how many small films fall apart because they can't get financing.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

PS:  Please don't take my agreeing with the article as an anti-Avatar rant.  That's not why I re-posted it at all.  I have no real animosity toward the film.  At least it's original.  The only thing that bothers me about that one is the stunning amount of money they spent on it.  What really offends me so deeply about the current climate in Hollywood is the destruction of the indies at the hands of so much recycled big budget pap.  I'm far more disgusted by the endless stream of steaming dung like the Transformers movies.

The Coen Brothers are remaking True Grit?  With Jeff Bridges as Rooster?  Will I cry when Matt Damon dies like I did when Glenn Campbell died?  And the girl?  Never heard of her.  She ain't no Kim Darby, that's for sure.

Completely pointless remake, the original is perfect.  The Coens normally get my interest, but then again the last time they did a remake (ladykillers) it was a complete train wreck.  So, I will probably take a pass on this one
