Re: Randomness

If it helps  We have saturday school next week so even having monday off its still a five day work week.  Better than a six day work week, those kill me.

Re: Randomness

Saturday school ... I used to have that, too. One of the not-so-great things if you attend a Waldorf School. LOL

Re: Randomness

ew. that sounds lovely. roll

winter is almost here. I can feel it in my bones. And the "kaamos" is getting so close I can already feel the kaamos blues over me. or maybe its just the insomnia whacking me out of the day rhythm that comes so easily to regular people. who drained all the juice off of me?

CappuGirl: what's the worst winter you've ever seen in Finland?  Here, we get an inch of ice on the roads and they close down the city!
How long do your winters last?

Deb: Saturday school is half a day. Its not too bad, but in May its every saturday for TAKS practice.  Its mainly for 3rd-12th grade.  Its kind of nice because I get to tutor fourth grade, which is a nice change of pace from kinder.  It just makes the work week hard not having two days off. Especially dealing with kindergartners. It can be draining, but I like it!  I'd rather be working hard than not working at all.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

How long do your winters last?

The worst winter was when I was 14 (1996) and still lived in the middle of Lapland, 250km north from where I live now (southern Lapland). It was below -40c (-40F) for weeks, sometimes even -50c (-58F). Damn cold! yikes Usually it varies a lot between 0c (32F) and -35c (-31F). Its coldest in january and february. It can snow every day or every other day or not at all for couple of weeks. Depends on many things. It usually snows AT LEAST an inch every time, usually more. Sometimes even 20cm/6-7 inches at a time if there's a proper blizzard. The roads need to be cleaned of snow few times a day in worst days. Once the ice comes, it stays on the road for a long time. Its worst when it melts a bit in a 0c/-22F weather and then freezes again, leaving ruts on the roads. There aren't as many accidents as you americanos would have on inch of ice/snow. People have proper winter tires and in driving school there's a part where we get to practice on really deadly icy driving ring before we're even aloud to have our license.

It depends on how you count, how long the winters are. If you count from when the temperature gets below 0c like most Finns, it starts in september or october, and lasts 'till may. The first snow usually comes around November, but we had one snowless Christmas about 5 years ago. that was rare freak of nature. made people think about global warming a bit. The snow melts some time between april and may, but there has been a few years that there was still a bit snow in early june.

OK. Who wants a trip to Winter Wonderland? lol

A year ago oct 7 when first snow came. I think it's most dangerous to drive when it's wet slush like this and you don't know if there's ice under it.

Our drive way last march AFTER I had cleared it to driveable.

Re: Randomness

Today its -3,3 and I hear it snowed 130km south of us last night. Our ground is black as death. Dead leaves on it and all. hubs keeps talking about cleaning them off but he never has the energy. I don't mind if we won't get snow for another month. its gonna be that wet slush in the beginning and icy ruts. I hate driving on ruts. which I complained a lot on this thread a year ago so I won't go there now. lol I just wish it was sunny and not cloudy again. My throat is sore and worse again, so I won't be going out anyways, but it would look nicer if it was sunny. smile

Re: Randomness

My writing composition class was cancelled today for like the fourth time this semester. My writing composition teacher is one of the colleges presidents of some sort and had to be at the other schools campus over an hour away. Its been great sleeping in on those days.

Well. The ground is frosted white this morning and somehow my daughter knows that tomorrow there will be proper snow. i won't challenge that assumption. She is such smartie pants she might just be right. ♥

Re: Randomness

Deb, you had mentioned on facebook about putting a video together with audio and images. Windows movie maker is pretty easy to operate. Click on import into collections under file to import audio, video, pictures, etc. Then you move the audio you want to audio/music space and the images to the video space above. I use it for all of my videos.
