2011 Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards

I thought this might be an interesting discussion to hear because there are a lot of movies out there all good in their own various ways. Nice to see how different each one of them are from each other.  I personally think the big contenders will be Social Network, THe Kings Speech, and the Fighter... even though i did enjoy Black Swan and127 Hours a lot.  Should be interesting to see the turn out.  These awards usually give us a feel for how the academy awards will turn out. Kevin Spacey introduced Papa Joe's gorgeous daughter, this year's Miss Golden Globe, Gia Mantegna.  So cool!

I know. she did a great job.  cool to see Joe so proud smile  Glad Colin Firth won best actor for The King's Speech.  Always been one of my favorites.  Excited for all the Glee winners too, even though I never really watched the show before I like what it stands for.

Re: 2011 Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards

I actually watched this one live. Yeah, at 2am in the morning. But it was a great show. I was like "I want Colin Firth to win Best Actor." and just a second later he did! Woohoo! LOL
And when Katey Sagal won, I was like, "Wait, Peggy Bundy won for Drama? LOL"

This version of Peggy Bundy would rip your arm off and beat you with it for making fun of her.  She's an awesome badass biker mama in Sons of Anarchy.  I love that show!

Well, I have never watched Sons of Anarchy and I grew up watching her as Peggy Bundy, so I guess that will never change, sorry. LOL

What did you guys think of Ricky Gervais as the host of the Globes? I personally enjoyed near the edge jokes, but I know he's not everyones tastes.

I thought he was very funny.  I really like Ricky.  I don't have a problem with crude or borderline humor as long as it's funny.  He's funny.

I know it's going off topic, but have you seen Cemetery Junction Deb? Ricky directed and wrote it, as well as had a small part. It's a good film, set in his (and mine) hometown during the 70's.

Re: 2011 Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards

Nope.  But I'll keep an eye out for it.  I really enjoy the hell out of his movies.  I think Ghost Town is brilliant and I loved a lot of The Invention Of Lying.  I love the animated show.  You know our member, here Rick Hinson (Editsound) is the sound designer on that show.

Re: 2011 Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards

It's a coming of age story. You should definately check it out. I went to (and now work at) the same school he went to as a kid. Extras is also a great show you should see of his, if you havn't seen it already.

I've seen some of Extras when it aired here on HBO.  I'll probably rent the whole series from Netflix sometime.

Same here. I didn't have any problems with his jokes. And hey - if the people who asked him to host the show didn't like him - why did they hire him? :clueless:
