The writer/producer of some of my favorite shows has died. He was 69.

Prolific TV producer Stephen J. Cannell dies

Stephen J. Cannell, the prolific writer-producer of dozens of TV series that included "The Rockford Files" and "The A-Team," has died at age 69.

Cannell passed away at his home in Pasadena, Calif., on Thursday night from complications associated with melanoma, his publicist said on Friday.

After three decades as an independent producer of TV shows, Cannell in recent years had focused his attention to writing books, and had published 16.

As an actor, he had a recurring role on ABC-TV's series, "Castle."

Greatest American Hero, that was my holy Cannell show. Though I loved The Rockford Files too. I wonder if he got to see Terriers before he passed. I swear that show had to be Rockford-inspired!

There was a pilot done last spring for an updated "rockford files". I know a lot of people who worked on it, and the unanimous opinion was that it was horrible. none of the charm, and no answering machine at the beginning.

It showed how really perfect the original was, and how easily it could have missed. It was definately my favorite of his shows.

And who will Castle play cards with now?

It is, it is under "self". It is weird how they do that sometimes, even though they are playing fictionalized versions of themselves.

Loathe the new format! And it IS weird that they'd put an acting role down there among "self", as though it were a talk show appearance or something. Or well, I can't remember what I did before IMDb, but sometimes it really annoys me. :fedup:
