Re: Randomness

Lest we forget

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_Day
Today is ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corp) Day. This day commemorates the failed attack by these soldiers on the shore at Gallipoli during WW1. I think it is just as important as ever if not more important now to remember those days and events. The last WW1 Australian veteran has past years ago, but if we can keep them in our memory maybe we can stop events like that from happening again. I know that this day is specific to my country and NZ but I think the feeling behind it is universal. So again I say, lest we forget

Re: Randomness

It has been pointed out to me that "lest we forget" is not universal. So I wanted to share the Ode of Rememberance with you.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

This ode is taken from a poem and said very often in reference to soldiers in Australia, particularly today. Often now even just saying "Lest we forget" has become the norm. I don't know the whole poem but have found it online.

For the Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flash of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Re: Randomness

Thank you so much for sharing this Kate!! I especially like the second stanza. Happy remembrance day.

Deb: love the post (#5260)of the puppy! So cute!

I visited a class with a co-worker at what hopefully will be my future seminary school.  I applied for my masters. It was incredibly inspiring and invigorating.  I feel so motivated now on all grounds of my life.  Nice to be around like minded people who share your desire.  Keeping fingers crossed it works out!

Re: Randomness

So my ex was stalking me. He texted everyday and thankfully he couldn't call because his phone broke awhile ago and now he uses a text app on ipod. Now he finally got hint and went away after two weeks of my breaking up with him since I found out hes a compulsive liar, druggie, alcoholic, and probably cheated too.

Okay so for some reason the girl I still thought was my bestfriend for 6 years, yes 6 starts talking again to the ex bestfriend of ours that likes to make up lies. She is ignoring me now just like the other girl did. I try to tell the bestfriend I just lost how upset I am and how that other girl probably hates us. They have no respect especially the bestfriend who just ditched me yesterday. She doesn't care apparently the other girl made up lies and called her nasty names.  They talk bad about people and complain nonstop.  They are both so young and have babies and basically ruined their lives.  The only bestfriends I have now are my mom, one of my cousins, and a girl Ive known for about a year who actually cares. She actually wants to talk to me on the phone and we talk everyday, plus she never gossips. Im ridding myself of those two girls who cant be trusted. I was always there for them except they don't care anymore. They have no lives and just want to post their life stories on facebook and get attention.

Re: Randomness

Sorry to hear about your friendships.  Hope you work things out.  As I got older my friendship circle dwindled.  It happens, people get wrapped up in their own lives that don't include you anymore & you just have to move on sometimes.  You'll keep the friends that count & make new ones with each different stage of your life.

Completely random- anyone going to watch the royal wedding?  It's Friday right?  For me its sad I can't remember what day it is!  That's how busy its been!

Re: Randomness

I really want to avoid it as much as possible....but its been on the news and every talk show here and the ADS!!! oh the ads.....Its just abit much really. They even have aired a made for tv movie called Will and Kate, a modern fairytale.....yes they made a movie about it with impersonators doing the acting.

Anyway I am completely over it and dont want to watch it. Which means I wont be able to watch tv that night, but I think I can live with it. Australia has gone abit loopy over it all. But seeing as though they are still "our" royal family I guess it makes sense, meh I dont care.

Re: Randomness

That's crazy they made a movie about Will & Kate.  I'm watching it for nostalgia & the fact its been really stressful at work & I'll be able to escape a little.

Our ENTIRE school building moves this weekend to our new school. We're expected to be a full functioning school Monday morning.  IT'S A MESS!!! but the kids have been really sweet & are super excited so that's what counts.

Excited to hear about your Michael Welch adventure and premiere adventure.

Re: Randomness

I'm fresh out of 10 day internet hiatus and all I see around the webs is Kate&Will and all the finns going nuts over celebrating may 1st early. because this year it falls on a sunday, it isn't an extra day off. it is custom here to get totally giddy-tricky-happy-drunk-a-balooza on the eve before may 1st. It's how I met my bold ex. Need I explain any further? wink  I'm just at home with kiddies, planning to make my life a living hell so I can make a few extra bucks by baking A LOT every friggen morning. I reckon I'll be needing a vacation by may 18th so I'm going to Åland. LOL

Re: Randomness

adrenaline rush made me sick last night. That plus a pool party with a DJ all day has made me not a happy camper today.  I haven't been able to rest at all due to the music.  Grrr.

Re: Randomness

Sorry to hear that, Lindsey. Hope you feel better tomorrow. I need to get my butt to bed. It's way too late again. Why can I never find the right (i.e. early enough) moment to go to bed on the weekends? I know I'm gonna regret this tomorrow.

I know what you mean because I guess the fact that they are choosing to ignore me, no explanations goes along with exactly what you are saying. Anyways you don't go on with your life by befriending an ex friend that talked bad about you. Its not right and you don't have respect for yourself if you do. I'm done with them both. I don't want the association with either of them again, at all. They deserve each other because I am so done with liars and two faced fakes. Thats exactly what they are and if they just see the negative in everything and complain non-stop then I hope they get back all the negative things in their life they deserve. They say one thing and do another and post about dumb little things like "I'm laying in the dark," "Glad to know I have no real friends need to get some real ones." Like seriously? Whatever I'm through with practically all females especially them.

Re: Randomness

Well, apparently the Star Wars Day goes back to a mistranslated inteview (in German, of all things). I'm not sure I'm recalling this right, but I think George Lucas was interviewed in Germany (years and years back) and they used a simultaneous translator (who obviously didn't know Star Wars). George said goodbye at the interview with the words, "May the Force be with you," and the translator translated this into German as "I will be back here on the 4th of May". And Star Wars Day was born!

Re: Randomness

Well, excuse me that I'm not aware of ALL the country-specific holidays in this world. I did know about Star Wars Day though. Maybe I should change my priorities.

I like that I get to learn about these things on this board. Also it makes me aware of how many things are Australian specific that I wasnt aware of before! HA!
