Just watched Mary Steenburgen in "Parenthood" from netflix. I knew steve martin was in it but didn't realize she was there too! What a great movie She is great at mother roles

It's very old, Maria. The current TV series is actually the second attempt to adapt the film. The first attempt was a horrible failure.

that movie has the 80s stink all over it! love it! well except the part about our sweet Mary under Steve Martin. I might have just barfed a little when I saw that. she must have hated her 80s movies, having to kiss grey haired dudes for living. Of course I'm thinking of her Back to the furure gig. It's the first thing I remember seeing her in and loving it.

Yeah, Lindsey, the new season of Parenthood is running right now, but I got very far behind in mid Season 2 so I need to catch up before I watch Season 3. But Jason's in it a lot right now.

Maria, I was a little squicked-out by having to watch Mary play Steve's wife too. I like him OK, but I certainly don't wanna kiss him. Ack!

One thing I love about Mary Steenburgen, she tends to pop up in movies that I forgot she was even in! She's so humble in all her roles I think I tend to miss its her! I was watching Elf today and completely forgot she was in it! Such a great role to be Will Ferrell's mother! It makes sense now!

She's had her showy roles. But they're mostly smaller movies. Isn't that always the way? The best parts are in smaller movies and the big famous movies reduce our favorite actors to nothing. Like poor Chris Lowell in Up In The Air. He was cut almost all the way out of that movie. And our guy has suffered that fate too; cut scenes, failed dreams. Mary won me over in Time After Time when I was a teen and I've been a fan ever since. It could very well be that I love her in JoA most of all. I'll always watch her in anything, but I don't think I'll ever love her more than I did in her scenes with Chris.

Amen to that....I don't think I've ever seen her in something that I didn't love her in; she is one of my favorites. But there was really something special about Helen's connection with Adam and I think the chemistry between Mary and Chris was almost as sweet and convincing as the chemistry between Amber and Chris. That's part of the reason why Adam's betrayal of himself made no sense to me. Just the episode before that he had that sweet conversation with Helen where he said that he didn't want to mess things up with her because he didn't have anyone in his life like her, Helen. Why would he then a week later cheat on Joan and screw things up so much for himself. There was no logic to it.

I don't think I know the movie Time after Time. I'll have to look it up. I remember her first as the schoolteacher who falls in love with Doc in the Back to the Future Part III movie. Then after that, Parenthood.
