Forum changes

I managed to increase the font size in IE as well now, so now we're using 13px, as opposed to 11px like it was before. Is everyone okay with that? I will try to work on a new color scheme next that will hopefully make things easier to see. But I'm warning you, those will probably have a light background and be a little lighter than this one. But if it works, that's okay with me. I think we'll be able to adjust, won't we? New things don't necessarily have to mean they're bad.

Re: Forum changes

Okay, I'm done fiddling with the colors for now. Please let me know if you're okay with them the way they are now.

Re: Forum changes

Changed the background color a bit more. I like it now, hope I can stop fiddling soon. Because I know I will keep doing that until I'm satisfied. Deb, you said the font was huge now in IE at work. I can make it one pixel smaller if you like. Let me know what it looks like at home later.

Oh, and I upgraded our PunBB from version 1.2.12 to 1.2.14, so all the latest changes should be implemented now and we're as safe as we can be. Let me know if something isn't working anymore.

Re: Forum changes

Looks pretty decent on my home PC with Firefox.  At work on IE, with the huge resolution, it looks kinda bad.  But it is much easier on the eye.

Re: Forum changes

I think I can really get used to the new look. It's been online for a day now and I think I can grow to like it. In fact, I already do. But of course I'm open for any changes you'd like to see me make to it. I want for our site and board to be usable and readable.

Oh, I will also try to register with another test user name, mainly because there were some changes to the registering module with the new PunBB upgrade. I just wanna make sure it's working properly.

Re: Forum changes

Aha! There we go. Already it's not working when you want to register as a new user. Got an error message. Well, that sucks. I'll try to fix it when I get home.

Re: Forum changes

Okay, I fixed the registration page, it seems to work now. However... shrams said before her confirmation e-mail with the password never arrived. I just tried to register with one of my addresses and I haven't received a confirmation e-mail yet either. Might take a while for it to be sent, but what if it doesn't get here? That would majorly suck because I won't have a clue why it's not working. That might mean having to reupload the whole forum. Dude, I so don't wanna do that. But if we have to, we'll have to....

And, no, don't worry, hopefully that wouldn't mean losing all our posts, those are backed up and stored separately anyhow.

I renamed our "All About Chris" section to "You da man!". Just thought that would be funny. You guys okay with that? I can change it back.

Re: Forum changes

Some of you might have noticed that I played around with the board graphics a little today. Nothing too big, just a few fancy changes so that things have more of a 3-D look. If you wanna go back to the 2-D look, you can click on Profile (in the top navigation), select Display and choose the cm.com 3 style from the drop-down list.

Yep, they're from Yahoo. I just love them. I'm not sure they're too flashy for the forum, though. Let's try them and see if people get annoyed. I love this one because it's me. :silly:

Re: Forum changes

I now changed the settings so that only the first few smileys show up in the quick post thing (so that there's not too much movement there). The full range of smileys shows up when you hit the "Post reply" button. Hope that solution suits everyone.

And now I need to grab something to eat, maybe a :coffee: and then do some laundry.

Re: Forum changes

It might take a bit of getting used to for me.  I'm not generally a fan of animated emoticons.  But sometimes, they are the only thing that will do to express what you're trying to say.  I guess we're OK as long as the big, really annoying ones are left off.  You know what I mean.  Like that one with the machine gun someone's using on IMDb right now.

Re: Forum changes

Have you checked the ones in the "Post reply" thing? Are those too flashy? I'm okay with the way they are now, but I can take some out if you like. I was just playing around, we can make changes to what I was doing.

I just added this one: :youdaman:

You know, I can also hide the smileys from showing up, but you'd still be able to insert them if you knew which code to use (like : youdaman : will display the one with the sign when you ommit the spaces).

Re: Forum changes

Let's just see how it goes.  If everyone uses them sparingly, I guess it'll be OK.  Animated drool might be a handy thing for me to have, ya know?

Yeah, some of them are nice to have, especially those that now show up in the Quick Post. I can also make some of the now moving ones static. Just let me know if you'd like me to change anything.
