Re: Randomness

It was 64 in the ATL today.  When I got back in my car after lunch, the temp gauge read 75!  So far, we've really had no winter.  But it ain't over yet.  I once snowed here in April.  Anything can happen today with Climate Instability being a factor.

Re: Randomness

Very true deb!

I found the cutest litter of Australian shepherds in Terrell.  I also found one adult shepherd / cattle dog that I inquired about.  Do you know anything about them?  we have a border collie - i hear shepherds are great pets.  I'm thinking its finally time to get one.

Re: Randomness

I rescued and fostered an injured Aussie once, until we adopted her out.  They are SO SMART!  The need a job.  Seriously, if you can't be with them enough and give them something herdy to do, they will destroy your house out of boredom.  Herding dogs, all collies, will outwit the heck out of the average human.  They make awesome Frisbee and agility dogs.  Do you have a yard?

Re: Randomness

oh I've wanted a Border collie ever since I first saw it in a book of dog breeds and it was everything I could want as someone who wanted a dog that would settle well in a family with kids. smile are they as wonderful as I think they are?
I've been trying to be a cat person for the past year but I don't think they like me and my wolfy kids a lot. the kitten we got last summer has grown into this big creature with sharp nails and teeth. they just keep getting sharper! as does her hunting urges. I'm afraid if she doesn't calm down as she grows, I'm going to have to ask my mom if she knows a farm house where she'd be happier. my mom used to work on farms here. she knows. I think this will be the last time I try to have a cat or a dog in an apartment building. the cats would have been so much happier I could have let them out for the nights. I'd love to adopt a dog from a shelter, but I think dog might even less happier in this place. he'd have to be alone for 7-10 hours / day with all the noises from the other apartments.

Re: Randomness

Sounds like you need a small, confident, tolerant, highly trainable dog, Maria.  I'd suggest a terrier of some sort.  The dog I recently fostered, Mickey, would be perfect for a situation like yours.  He was some sort of rat terrier mix.  My Dixie is a toy rat terrier.  She'd be too small for your kids.  I wouldn't go toy if I were you.

Re: Randomness

Good info deb.  I grew up with a border collie and I remember the same thing about her Cappyu Girl.   She did eventually calm down.  I worry about that getting a dog, being away for so long. but my co-worker has a collie and she seems pretty house broken and laid back about it.  I've thought about a King Charles Spaniel, but they are very expensive!

Thanks Deb!

I just had to post a picture of the puppy I almost got today! The picture is a little big so I'll attach it as a link.

My parents said the same thing, that they are beautiful dogs but it wouldn't be happy in an apartment on the 6th floor sad

Re: Randomness

anyone else having a spring break around these times? big_smile how are you people?

I'm on pins and needles. Can't stand being at home too much anymore. I love going to school. nut. Now I haven't been there since last wednesday and I was so looking to go back this monday, but instead I had to stay at home with mildly sick boys all of this week. tomorrow we're taking off in a train to visit my relatives in Southern Finland. I'll probably come back more stressed. relatives can do that. and my mom has gone totally mental. I'm actually kinda scared of her and for her but nothing much I can do about it. anyhoo. I won't let her guilt me to stay at her place with the kids when I know how she is at nights. staying at my sister's instead and then tuesday I'll go to visit my friend in the city near by for couple of days and the ex will pick up the kids from there. then back to visit my other sister and brother for the rest of the week or as long as we can tolarate each other. lol. I'm actually a bit nervous about travelling by train in winter time especially since they've been having some troubles all winter, but still I must go. I'd be even more nervous if I just let my ex drive to the other end of the country with the kids. I'll still be stressed about him getting into an accident with the kids since where he is going there's been an awful lot of accidents this winter. luckily not too many casulties, but still; his impatient driving style and the trafic that is to be expected there... I just hope at least the driving weather isn't awful. wish us all luck and sanity! lol

Re: Randomness

Did you guys read what Mike Nesmith said about Davy?  So beautiful...

All the lovely people. Where do they all come from?

So many lovely and heartfelt messages of condolence and sympathy, I don’t know what to say, except my sincere thank you to all. I share and appreciate your feelings.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

While it is jarring, and sometimes seems unjust, or strange, this transition we call dying and death is a constant in the mortal exp...erience that we know almost nothing about. I am of the mind that it is a transition and I carry with me a certainty of the continuity of existence. While I don’t exactly know what happens in these times, there is an ongoing sense of life that reaches in my mind out far beyond the near horizons of mortality and into the reaches of infinity.

That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you. I will miss him, but I won’t abandon him to mortality. I will think of him as existing within the animating life that insures existence. I will think of him and his family with that gentle regard in spite of all the contrary appearances on the mortal plane.

David’s spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us.

I have fond memories. I wish him safe travels.

Re: Randomness

we have arrived to my sister's place after a train trip that seemed longer than life itself. Happy reunion with the kids' cousins. they've all grown like weeds! big_smile my godson looks more and more like an actor/sports star. gonna be a heart breaker in a few years. hehe. my niece looks more and more like Luna in HP. big_smile the other nephew just looks like himself. or wrestler. all my sister's kids look and act like athletes. makes me ashamed I didn't push harder trying to get sports hobbies for my kids when they were younger. they could have used it. to learn that rules are there for a reason etc. J was always "no no, that will cost too much" so I kept pushing it back until I got work too. dang... looking to get the boys into football/soccer. they'd be good at it. in the meanwhile... this trip... lets just see if we'll all get fed up with each other by tuesday as usual. I'll be going to the bigger town anyways to see a friend. smile

What a beautiful note Matt Nesbeth said about Davey.  I especially liked the safe travels at the end of the note.   My spring break starts next week.  I'm hoping a spontaneous traveling opportunity arises somehow in the next week. I could use a vacation!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!  It was so cute to see kindergartners fix their hairs and everyone wearing bow ties at the end of the school day.
