Re: Misc Stuff

Did anyone ever watch Blue Valentine?  I love Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams so I put it on my netflix queue.  But everyone is saying even though wonderfully acted I shouldn't see it since its so violent and such a harsh romance. Do you agree?  Too uncomfortable to watch?

Re: Misc Stuff

It's in my Netflix queue, but I'm currently re-watching Sons of Anarchy from the beginning, so it'll be a while before I see it.  I love both Ryan and Michelle and I've read so much about it.  It's not physically violent, so much as emotionally brutal.  These two characters in the later part of the story just really can't connect anymore and it gets ugly and sad.

Re: Misc Stuff

I did watch Blue Valentine.  Your review is actually accurate Deb. There were some really disturbing scenes that I had to fastfoward through to be honest, but it didn't take away from the movie, so i'm wondering if they were even necessary or not.  But it was beautifully acted by Michelle and Ryan, music by Grizzly Bear is really great and suits the movie well, and directing is wonderful.  Just be prepared for the emotional ride as you said wink

Re: Misc Stuff

See these are the kind of films I love the most.  I really look forward to seeing this one.  Have you ever seen Half Nelson, the one Ryan got an Oscar nomination for?  To me that one was tough to take, but it was still riveting.  He's almost always just right.

Re: Misc Stuff

This is kinda random, but if you ever happen to stumble across the British reimagining of Sherlock Holmes (just titled Sherlock), please watch it. It's fantastic. It's the story of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson set in modern times. It's nothing like the recent theatrical movies, and it's witty, sharp and gripping. Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are a wonderfully odd couple.

There's two seasons out there now, but each season only has three 90-minute episodes.

Re: Misc Stuff

Sounds interesting Teejay, is it on netflix?  I'll take a look!

Any Jason Segel or Ed Helms fans out there?  I kind of want to see this movie, its gotten decent reviews so far.... it's rated highly for me on netflix but I can't decide if thats because I'm a fan of 'The Office' and 'How I met Your Mother.' lol

Re: Misc Stuff

No idea if it's on Netflix, because we don't have Netflix over here in Germany. I hope it is, though. It's out on DVD and Blu-ray in Germany and the UK, so I hope it's made it to the US as well.

Re: Misc Stuff

I'm not sure how much sense it makes to go into the show in season two without knowing season one. I've only seen season one so far, but I've heard people say that you really need to watch the beginning for season two to make sense.

Enjoyed the hunger games.  Hadn't read the book and managed to stay unspoiled by others.  Loved Jennifer Lawrence, definitely great role for her.  Looking forward to reading the books this summer.

I'm very curious about the movie and will probably see it soon.  And just like always I've got a pile of books to read.

Nah, don't do that.  Sometimes, you buy them now and find you HAVE to read them later.  smile

Re: Misc Stuff

My daughter is having trouble learning english so I got her into watching movies in english. TV and movies in english is what made it click for me back in the 90s. Her dad and stepmom got her started with Harry Potters and Twilight and she saw some of those here too. Last night she saw the new Karate kid, but that might have been a step back. There isn't one person in that movie that speaks proper english. thehe. I sound like a snob. Tonight I showed her The Sisterhood of the travelling pants and she says it's her favorite. big_smile TSOTTP2 tomorrow or later this week.

Any suggestions on good movies that would be ok for a 10 year old girl? she's used to tv shows that have gadgets and action like Code Lyoko, Bagugan, etc. but I think she'd love movies about friednship. dramas, comedys, nothing too heavy or scary. please chip in! big_smile

Re: Misc Stuff

More Anne Rice Bomer fandom...

Someone created an image of Matt as Louis from Interview With The Vampire for her. If she could make another film from the Chronicles, she wants him.

Re: Misc Stuff

The movies are not great. But I do have a soft spot for both Interview and QOTD.  I found them fun despite their flaws.  Probably because I understand that it's completely impossible to do her beautiful books justice.  I have tried to watch The Feast of All Saints mini-series, but it's pretty horrible.  That is still my favorite AR book.  Showtime shat all over it.

I like that Aaliyah is in a Anne Rice movie QOTD.
Tale Of Body Thief is being made into a movie and Christ Lord. I hope they dont destroy my favorite Vampire Chronicles novel.

Holy crap, Vampire Diaries so good this season.  What more could they possibly do next season?  I might have to break down and buy the books.
