Elinor is teething majorly. How do I handle this? I got her lots of toys but the only things she likes are my shoes and hands She gets upset when I cover my hands and starts barking. What do you recommend?

Patience. It might take a while of replacing non-chewy things with allowable chewy things until she gets it. She's going to protest things she doesn't like, but if you stay consistent, she'll figure it out and stop fighting you on it. There are lots of toys designed specifically for teething puppies. Go to Petsmart and ask what they recommend. Or maybe check out the Dr Foster & Smith catalog online for ideas.

Elinor is in that tearing up everything phase, before she was just teathing & really couldn't do anything now she is into everything. I've had to put everything on counters out of her reach I started putting her back in her crate at night because she was getting into stuff & waking me up. I hate doing that but I think she actually slept quite while and cozy in her new crate. I did too!

Crating puppies at night is not a bad thing at all. As long as you NEVER use the crate as punishment, she will probably come to think of it as her bed and you can "let" her sleep in there until she's old enough to stop getting into trouble at night.

That's what I've heard - she's done quite well in the crate and its making me sleep better. She doesn't want to go in at first but as soon as she does she's sound asleep.

Deb - Elinor may have sprained her ankle or hip yesterday, she's been keeping off of it all day. It's definitely not her paw, I've checked it, what do you recommend? She's just started gently putting it down on the ground but she's for sure been keeping off of it all day and pretty inactive according to her usual stuff.

Oh man, that's rough. Give her till Monday and if she still can't walk comfortably, better take her to the vet. Did you see anything happen to her, or did she just start hurting out of the blue?

I think when I was dusting my hard wood floors she was playing and might have sprained something. She's putting her foot down now and has been livelier than yesterday. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow. She seems much better today, more like herself so I think it's going to heal just fine.

I'm glad she's improving. You're probably right. I bet she'll be fine.

aww that's awesome Deb! Congratulations! She's a sweetheart! Look how happy she is!
Elinor is doing fine. Full of energy. Took her to the vet for her last puppy vaccination. She weighs 19lbs now and has a little ear infection But they gave me some medicine.

Been through ear infections, eye ulcers, tooth infections, tumors. We can get through all of that. Vet medicine is great these days, and all our pups need is our love.

yes, and money! Shots are fine, medicine expensive! Do you use a pet insurance to file claims with? Would it be worth it do you think you'd get any money back? I've been refused claims through offices, not the insurance and that made me upset.

You could ask your vet about a financing option like Chase Vet Healthcare. I used them last year for Dixie's dental surgery. They pay the vet and then you make monthly payments to them. That specific one is no longer taking new applications, but there are others. Worth looking into.

It does. I know I shouldn't take her for every little thing but she had an upset tummy for a few days. She's much better today. I didn't feed her though until I got home so I could monitor the bathroom breaks better. Her personality seems to be back though!

A few things to rant about....
Elinor and I are making great progress on packing, however I think I'm going to have to clear some out to see what's left to pack in this small space. I'm surprised we've made it so far. I'll for sure be able to finish tomorrow.
Elinor went spastic today. I couldn't take her on her long walks as I was determined to get as much done as possible. On our evening walk she ran and ran and ran and I lost control of the leash. Thankfully I've trained her not to go into the streets so she staid in the park. I got scared because I can't run (I've got handicapped knees) and I kept crying help help! but no one came. Alas she was playing as she went into downward dog wagging her tail trying to play chase. I made it obvious that I was not playing and not happy. she got the picture.
I think she's just feeling the anxiety of the move and boxes. She's scared to enter the apartment right now with all the boxes. So I'm taking her to mom & dad's tomorrow to relax and get away from the tight quarters. My brother is kind enough to watch her the day we move. I'm thankful to have supportive family nearby no matter how much we argue and bicker Any suggestions Deb?
Also, do you know anything about grooming laberdoodles? She desperately needs a cut but I like her muppety looking!

You're probably doing the right thing by sending her to a less chaotic environment. But get her into the new place to smell it and figure it out as soon as you can too. Just make sure that when you bring her into it, her toys are already scattered around. Her bed is in place and her food/water is set up. Show her where everything is and then let her roam. If she marks, don't freak out. It's all new. If you could have other smells out for her, like a blanket that has your scent on it or something, she'll get it quickly that this is home now. And show her where she'll be doing her business as soon as you can too. Give her plenty of time to sniff it out. Lacey and I moved 4 times. It's going to be an adjustment, but if her stuff and your stuff is around ASAP, it'll be easier.
Not sure about the grooming part. I have friends who left their guy shaggy. His coat stopped growing eventually. He's like a big curly booger bear now...

Deb, that's the cutet dog ever !!! and how Elinor looked. We got her cut but I'm letting it grow back out so she'll be shaggy and muppety again. She still looks cute.
Wednesday was her first day all by herself and she was rebellious in the afternoon. Thursday and today were better. She's adjusted quite well. I left all her toys out and put lots of blankets in her crate that made it comfortable for her.

So Elinor is SERIOUSLY misbehaving. When we go on walks she won't stop playing tug of war with the leash and jumping. Its really frusterating. It takes 20minutes for her to stop and then we walk literally a foot and she starts up again.
Second problem: she wouldn't go behind the baby gate and I was late to work several times this week trying to catch her in the apartment to put her behind the gate to get to work in the morning. Treats, toys, using soft voices commands wouldn't work. So I started taking her on our early morning walks before work and immediately putting her behind the baby gate. BUT I would spend some time there to make her feel comfortable making my lunch for the day getting coffee and playing with her a bit. She wasn't crying when I left so I thought she was okay.
Well now, for the past couple of walks when I pull out the leash she starts going crazy, running around the apartment because I think she feels like she's going back behind the baby gate. Not on that, but when I open the door for any reason she runs out and tries to play "tag" or "chase" and tests me to see what I will do. I got so frustrated I eventually just started walking away and she did follow me. She was just trying to test me.
What do you recommend? As soon as I pay off my credit card I'm doing one on one training with the trainer at pet smart. This is getting really frustrating.
