Bad Country trailer: http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/ba … ry/trailer Chris is in it, but not too much. He's not credited. Looks like he plays a cop, but I don't expect it to be a prominent role.

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

To me he looked more like a lawyer or something. lol But hey, small roles are better than no roles. Still, I don't think this is going to rank high in my favorite movie list, but I'll keep an open mind about the movie.

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

In this interview, Kevin Chapman says Bad Country is coming out "in the fall", whatever the heck that means.  Got news for ya bro, it IS fall.  So where's the movie?

Based on our experience with the release of movies with Chris maybe it's a sign that he didn't mention the year that fall is in ...

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

OK, so now the key art on IMDb is a BluRay cover.  And people are starting to find the movie online comment on it.  Also, they say the video release in eminent...

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

Okay, so why on earth would the movie be released on Blu-ray in the US and only on DVD in the UK? That kinda sucks, cause I'd have ordered the UK version. However, I much prefer Blu-ray. People, you are encouraging piracy with this shit! Not a happy camper right now.

EDIT: The Blu-ray will be released in Germany on April 14 (for half the price of the US version). Guess I'm gonna go for that, then. And I guess that means this one doesn't get a cinematical release at all, right?

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

Well, I'm not surprised about no theatrical release.  The structure these days is such that only blockbusters and well-distributed (read only TWC & Lionsgate) films ever see the light of day on the big screen.  It's very depressing and why I hardly ever go to the theater anymore.

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

My Blu-ray arrived today, and I sat down and watched it right away. Quite a gritty, violent movie about taking down a crime syndicate in Lousiana. Nothing for the faint of heart. Can't say I was crazy about it, but it was good enough not to want to fast forward.

The movie takes place in 1983, but thankfully Chris wasn't too badly made up. In fact, I actually thought he looked way too modern (except maybe for the slicked back hair -- screencaps to follow in the next few days). The shirt and tailored suit were just too 21st century. He played a rookie FBI agent, had four or five scenes in total, and to my disappointment no Loiusiana accent. Not a huge role, but considering his recent track record, actually not that bad.

Would I recommend this movie? Not unconditionally. Deb, I think you might enjoy it. Anne? Probably not so much. Willem Dafoe was pretty good, as were the other actors. And I still hate Neal McDonough's face. For no particular reason. Good thing he played one of the bad guys.

PS: Chris isn't in the DVD extras -- neither the deleted scenes nor the featurette.

Thanks for the update.  No matter what, I'm sure it looks like an Oscar-caliber masterpiece compared to 10 Rules.   ]:D

Oh, it is, although I guess that's kinda like comparing apples and oranges (or rather grapes and melons).

Quick reminder: The DVD and Blu-ray comes out in the US on April 29. smile I have no idea why it was released in Germany first, but I'm not complaining.

Awesome - I want to say I saw this movie trailered a long time ago at the Angelika???? Probably not, but it looks very familiar.  Seems like a good small role for Chris.  Excited its coming to DVD at least!

Re: Bad Country (formerly Whiskey Bay)

I liked the movie.  It's not great, and you certainly shouldn't watch it for Chris.  But I liked the story.  Here's what I posted on IMDb about it...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2350892/boa … 350892?d=#

It's hard to tell maybe, if you don't know where to look, but a lot of love went into this movie. Chris Brinker's life was cut woefully short, which may explain the mishandling of the film's post-production, but this story obviously meant a lot to him. Originally titled Whiskey Bay, which was a much better name for it, you get the feeling there was more to the story of Jesse and his wife that got cut out. Anyone could've played Lynn, but they hired Amy Smart, who's a pretty good actress and then gave her nothing to do? I don't buy that. I'd love to read this script, actually. The chances are that if the Brinkers went so far as to write a love ballad for Lynn & Jesse for the end credits, that part of the story must've had more weight at some point. It might also go a ways toward explaining why Lt. Bud Carter would develop such a genuine concern for Jesse and fight so hard for him.

There were a lot of missteps, sure. But Dafoe and Dillon are so damn solid, I'm willing to forgive most of them. Despite Berenger's accent driving me crazy at times, I got a big kick out of his Col. Sanders style and seeing him get into a fistfight with Dafoe at the end. Elias and Barnes, at it again. Neat little twist that they worked with Matt Dillon in this and baby bro Kevin "Johnny Drama" Dillon was in Platoon.

It's a safe bet that I never would've even heard of this movie if Chris Marquette wasn't in it. Guess I have casting director, Matthew Barry to thank for that. He also cast Marquette's Alpha Dog co-star Alex Solowitz in this one. Thanks Matt! You always said you'd cast Chris anytime you could. Nice to see him in a more adult role in this, even though he's playing the green fed again. LOL!

This is just one of those movies you weren't aware of lands on the shelf and you pick it up on Saturday night and take a chance. On that level, I enjoyed it.
