Medium

Yay!  What did I just say a few days ago, TeeJay?  I miss Michael Benoit and want to see him on the show again!  Well, he's back next week.  And once again, he's messed up in trouble.  Can't wait!  TeeJay and I have talked about this but I don't think I've said it publicly before, I adore Ryan Hurst as Allison's brother.  He's my second favorite recurring guest star after Arliss Howard as Cap'm Push.  They're just such fun characters.

And a bit of useless trivia for you, Arliss probably got the role because he's married to Debra Winger, who is a dear friend of Patricia Arquette and her sister, Rosanna.  In fact, Rosanna actually made this wonderful documentary about the difficulties actresses endure as they age and change, called Looking For Debra Winger.

And Patricia's baby brother, David directs next week's episode.

Re: Medium

This week's show was very emotional.  At least the B story about Allison and Joe was --- he finally went back to work after the hostage/murder situation.

Jake Weber and Patricia Arquette introduced the episode by talking about how the show's producers removed the flashbacks to the event because after "the recent tragedy" (at Virginia Tech) because they felt the that the less gun violence on TV the better.  It made me cry.

Poor Joe.  He was so  broken and sad and scared and Deep Black Adamy.  Allison tried so hard to help him, but he wouldn't have it.

And there was no easy resolution.  Great stuff.

Re: Medium

Medium was really cool tonight.  We've got a real arc going on now.  It'll continue for at least one more ep.  I don't like what's happening with Joe, but I'm not supposed to.  And Neve Campbell's on for a couple of weeks, starting tonight!  Woohoo!

Just hit me that we've got four Party Of Five vets on TV right now, including  Neve,  smile Matthew Fox,   Scotty G  :dancing:  and...   :puke:   Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Re: Medium

The cliff-hanging continues.  It's really fun though.  I don't see it as maddening.  The coolest thing is that in next week's ep, something really world-changing happens for the Dubois family that happened to them in real life and I can't wait to see how it's handled.  What?  You wonder?  Without being spoilery, let me just direct you to the fact that everyone knows who the Dubois clan is in real life now.  She has been interviewed on TV a lot.  There's a wonderfully intense, sometimes brutal, always compelling family drama on television about them.  All that notoriety had to start somewhere...

Re: Medium

I was reading some comments on IMDb about the show and this girl on there declared herself "one of the Allison/Scanlon shippers".  Huh?  WTF?  How can anyone who loves this show and these characters want Allison to leave Joe and hook up with the cop?  Come on!  I just don't see how anyone could want Allison to dump her family.

The people who say something like this are stupid teenagers. They don't know the sense of Allison's family.

Re: Medium

Did the season finale end a little abruptly, or was that just me? Loved the whole "head" arch, though. And the Joe arch. Wonder what happens next season.

And just for the record: While I do think Allison and Lee would make a cute couple, I can never see her leaving Joe and the kids. And I just love Joe way too much to want Allison to be with Scanlon.

Wow, I loved Monday's episode. Wonderfully done, wonderfully acted. I even had a jump-in-my-seat (or rather jump-on-my-couch) moment. My heart is sinking when I think about that we might only get nine episodes this season. sad

Exclusive: 'Medium' Summons Tracy Pollan
Nov 10, 2008, 03:45 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Remember a little show on NBC called Medium? The one about the psychic with the super cool hubby? It earned Patricia Arquette an Emmy? Well, it's (finally) returning in January -- and with a nifty new castmember, to boot!

Michael J. Fox's actress-wife, Tracy Pollan, has been tapped to appear in a three-episode arc during the show's upcoming fifth season, sources confirm to me exclusively. She'll play Caitlyn, a corporate intuitionist who befriends Arquette's Allison and attempts to bring her to the corporation she works for because of her gift.

This marks Pollan's first major series gig since doing a two-episode stint on Law & Order: SVU more than eight years ago.

Re: Medium

Great article...

Dear Medium,

Thank you for the following highlights from your fine television program:

1. Everything Joe DuBois ever said or did. Joe is without question one of the outstanding husbands and fathers to ever grace television.

2. Jake Weber. *THUD*

3. All of the moments when the series dared to show Joe and Allison as a genuine and largely happy married couple. They just keep being together, loving each other and supporting each other and their daughters. The writers and actors have created a truly admirable portrait of modern marriage against a media landscape that doesn't otherwise necessarily admire fidelity and commitment.

4. The girls, Ariel (Sofia Vassilieva), Bridgette (Maria Lark) and now baby Marie (Madison and Miranda Carabello), who started finally started talking this season ("I am pea pod and I am in the vegetable family."). Love the sisters' rivalry and their inheritance of the family psychic business. For example, Marie cutting paper dolls out of the newspaper stock listings and naming them after soon-to-be-profitable companies. Too adorable!

5. Everything that ever happened with Ryan Hurst as Allison's brother Lucky, Arliss Howard as Texas Ranger Capt. Push, Anjelica Huston as Cynthia Keener, Kurtwood Smith as Agent Cooper, and Mark Sheppard as Dr. Charles Walker

6. Scanlon (David Cubitt) and Allison's platonic romance

7. Allison and Devalos' (Miguel Sandoval) friendship and reflexive trust

8. Any time the dream turns out not to be Allison's

9. Allison's ever-changing hair, her mom arms and her general cuteness

10. That episode where the poor dead kid ends up packaged as a life-size doll. OK, maybe that's not a favorite memory, but it certainly was just plain memorable.

11. In the same memorable but not necessarily cherished vein, the arc with Devalos' dead daughter

12. That time Allison went to go tell the girl that in 10 years she would meet a "good Samaritan" in the desert and that Samaritan was actually going to kill her. (Memory fails: Wasn't he supposed to have red shoelaces or red hair or some key physical trait?) That scene in a school hallway, as seemingly crazy Allison convinced the girl to listen and then take a leap of faith and trust her, well, that was simply remarkable.

13. Any time Allison has a beer

14. Allison as Little Red Riding Hood

15. The 3-D episode

16. The killer cartoon monkeys episode

17. The "I Married a Mind Reader" retro TV show episode

18. The iPod episode

19. Almost every ghost possession episode, including Natasha Gregson Wagner in the asylum in the '50s and most recently Jeffrey Tambor, who needs a guest-star Emmy, STAT. He absolutely nailed Patricia Arquette's Allison (although not literally, of course).

20. [Your suggestion goes here]

Thanks for the memories, Medium; we'll see you on CBS in the fall.

Sincerely,
Your loyal fans

Whoa. Intense indeed. They moved Medium to a Friday slot, didn't they? Also, when was My Sister's Keeper shot? Judging by Sofia's hair, it must be at least half a year ago. Did she wear a wig in the last few episodes of last season?

Yeah, she wore a wig for about half the season.  She was shooting the movie alongside the show for a while.  And yeah, they (stupidly) put Medium back to back with Ghost Whisperer, Friday at 8 & 9 PM.

Re: Medium

I can't say I was very impressed with the season premiere. I thought it was way too constructed. Oh, darn, Allison had a stroke, we can't make her appear normal right away and she also lost her powers, so let's fix it all up in one episode. I'll bet in the next episode she doesn't even have the cane anymore and her hand will be back to normal. I hate it when they make it all so obviously unreal just as a means to fixing the plot. I thought Medium always prided itself on portraying a family with problems that felt real.
