Little Miss Sunshine

little_miss_sunshine_ver3.jpg

Oh wow! My Danish friend Nick and I watched Little Miss Sunshine last weekend. What a hilarious, bizarre, wonderful movie. Okay, this poster is maybe a little misleading. It's more of a comedy than anything, so it doesn't really have anything to do with being in hell. Paul Dano's character just feels like he's in it. You'll understand why when you watch the movie.

Speaking of Paul Dano, I positively loved him in it, although I felt like everyone was doing a great job. All the performances were outstanding. And (as much as Paul Dano impressed me), yes, I will admint that there were moments where I thought Chris would have been perfect playing Dwayne if it hadn't been Paul.

And I just love this shot. It's also one of the scenes I liked best from the whole movie. Look at Paul's sweet smile.

Anyone who's got the chance to rent or buy it, I really recommend it. (Chris also told us it was one of the DVDs he bought earlier this year, by the way.)

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

Oooh, and my boyfriend is in that pic!  LOL!  I had this very bizarre nightmare last year about me and Steve Carrell that I probably shouldn't describe here.  But now, he is jokingly referred to as my "boyfriend" around here.  Thing is, I really didn't like him back when I had this dream.  But I finally got into The Office this year.  And I am absolutely in love with The 40-Year-Old Virgin.  It's one of the funniest, sweetest movies I've seen in many years and Mr. Carrell has totally won me over now.

BTW, I hope I can go see Knocked Up this weekend.  It's the same bunch who made Virgin and it has Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigle.  What could be better?

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

Ah, Little Miss Sunshine is amazing. I'm guessing I've seen it at least eight times by now, since I find myself showing it to anyone who tells me they've never seen it. Paul's another one of my favorite actors. He won me over when I was fourteen and saw L.I.E. for the first time. Great film.

Deb, I'm with you! Steve Carell is awesome! I'm totally into The Office. Totally into John Krasinski as well. Haha.

I'm a huge Judd Apatow fan and have been since his Freaks & Geeks days. Knocked Up is hilarious, and at the same time, it's a really sweet romantic comedy. I liked it even better than I liked 40-Year-Old Virgin smile I hope you get to see it soon!

Don't even get me started on Freaks & Geeks!  Apatow is a genuis.

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl in one movie? Whoa. I hope you get to go, Deb.

I have to admit that LMS and Girl Next Door are really the only two things I've seen Paul Dano in so far, but even from those I can tell he's a great actor. Up there in the same boat with Chris, I guess. Not that big a fan of Steve Carrell's, though. Too hairy. LOL He was great in LMS, though.

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

I was kinda disappointed that I couldn't catch LMS in the theatres around here, but I am definitely going to buy the DVD as soon as I have enough money. Wanted to do that ever since I heard about that movie.

That he is. Freaks & Geeks is quite possibly my favorite television show ever. I have this beautiful collection of the show that they call the yearbook. It's really expensive, but I'm so glad I have it. I've still never gotten over its cancellation. Same with Arrested Development.

Paul does a lot of quirky indie films, so I'm not surprised that you haven't seen him in much else. He's really fantastic, though. Like Chris, he's quite versatile. I remember being excited as hell when I found out that they were going to be in The Girl Next Door together, lol.

I just remembered that I've seen Paul Dano along with Emile Hirsch in The Emporer's Club. LOL

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

Hahaha, so true. I love indies because they're usually so much better than the widely released studio films, but I get really impatient waiting for them. Luckily, I don't think we'll have to wait any longer than necessary for Infestation.

I love indies too, it just bugs me that you never get to see those movies, especially in Germany because they only come to those independent film festivals  which I either don't know about or they are to far away. roll

Yep! He's great in it. He's another one of Judd's old friends. Both Jay and Seth Rogen were in a show that Judd did called Undeclared. It was pretty brilliant, but, sadly, cancelled in its first season sad

Yeah, that's gotta be tough. It's hard enough to wait for their release in the US. I think it would drive me nuts if I had to wait even longer than everyone else.

Welcome to our world, Brenna. It's driving me nuts already, but unfortunately there's nothing we can do short of moving to the US. And, quite frankly... no. wink

Never been to Canada, so I can't say. All I know is that while I liked my vacation in the US, I don't think I wanna live there. I could imagine moving to the UK, though. Not quite as far away either.

Yeah, Canada is still a little too far away actually. I'd prefer to move to Ireland. I LOVE this country. smile

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

Canda rocks.

And Brenna, you have The Yearbook?!?!?!!?  yikes  I am so jealous!!!  I want that soooooooooooooooo bad!  Is it still like $150?

Sorry, I fogot that Jay is in Knocked Up too.  In the trailer, you even get a glimpse of his maple leaf tattoo.  So cute!

And as for Paul, any of you guys seen him in Too Young To Be A Dad?  That's the first thing I ever saw him in.  He's wonderful.  And you know, I never realized he was the kid in L.I.E.  I confess I've always been a bit afraid of that movie.

Ugh, it's such a pretty set. And yeah, I think I bought it for around that price. It's extremely expensive, but I absolutely *love* it. Took me forever to save up for it, lol.

Yep, I actually own Too Young to Be a Dad. I'm definitely not a fan of Lifetime movies, but he was great in it. If I remember correctly, he was the only actor in it that wasn't at all cheesy. L.I.E. is a tough one, I'm sure it's not for everyone. It addresses a really controversial subject matter and humanizes a character that you want to view as a monster. The performances are amazing, though.

Re: Little Miss Sunshine

Yeah, I remember watching Paul in Too Young and just thinking that kid is fantastic.  I still can't believe I didn't see GND in the theatre considering I was already a fan of The Tripod.  Doh!

I'm gonna try to turn TeeJay on to F&G when she comes to visit in August.  I think everyone here would love it if they saw it.  All the actors in that show are fantastic.  It's such a kick to see Linda and Busy together again on ER.

I don't mind the subject matter of L.I.E.  I've seen a bunch of movies about that.  And I don't mind the humanizing aspect either if it's done right, like, say, The Woodsman.  Great movie if you've never seen it.  It's that specific story --- that particular movie --- that kind of scares me.  Maybe I'll be able to handle it one day, if for no other reason than to see Paul.
