Awwwww, girl, I hear ya. I was a basket case at the end of that ep the first time around. I've got a lot of housework to do tonight because a friend is coming to visit for the weekend, but I'll be online around 9:30 or 10:00. I'll log into YM if you wanna talk.

Dee, BAD GIRL! You don't go spoil yourself, especially not with that ep!! Yeah, it threw me for a loop too when I first saw it. I cried a lot as well. You kinda wanna hug and slap Adam at the same time, don't you? Now go back to your s2 DVD box and watch the rest of the show. We can talk in YM on Sunday if you wanna vent.

oh oh ... spoiling yourself with that ep was not that good! This is late, but I'll still give you a  cause I know what you went through, it was exactly the same here. When I watched the whole episode for the first time I already knew "the scene" from some internet clips and it was just HORRIBLE!!! I haven't watched it since.

JoA was on here today, and it was Independance Day. Which is kind of where the crap starts to hit the fan, if you ask me.
Offline
I personally think the crap started a little earlier, but what happened in Independence Day has definitely a big part in it too.

Don't know if we've linked this one before, but TeeJay and I watched it yesterday and it tore me up:

Quite a shock, huh? So take a break and then watch the rest. You have to watch the rest, otherwise you can't complete the JoA journey.

Yeah, you've seen the worst, now the few episodes you've still got left are gonna deal with the aftermath. After you've seen "Common Thread", make sure you read this:
Pathfinder - by TeeJay
It's basically missing scenes from that episode. You'll get to read up on what really happened during the time that we didn't see Adam.
And after you've finished with s2, you can finally start reading Butterflies.

For an episode I didn't think should have happened, I keep thinking about it.
Anyone have any ideas why Kevin isn't in this episode? It is the only episode in which any of the Girardis are missing, and other than the pilot, it is the only episode in which any of the main characters is missing. There are 2 scenes at the house, so they definately could have had him in it. Is it something as simple as Jason wasn't available (although that seems unlikely), or did they think that the generally comic nature of his scenes wouldn't fit (again doesn't seem to make sense, he had plenty of serious scenes, and they never shyed away from mixing comedy and drama) Any guesses or answers?
Joan: So, my true nature is to be a catalyst? That is mad anti-climatic.
God: Anti climactic. Anti-climatic means you're against the weather.
Offline
I don't have any answers in terms of knowing why. My first guess would also be that Jason wasn't available. Could be as simple as him being sick for the time that they were shooting the episode and they "wrote him out" spontaneously. Could also be that they didn't feel Kevin being there could bring anything to the situation that would help the storyline. Although I always thought of Kevin offering support for Joan when she was going through difficult times.

I don't know either why he wasn't in this episode. In fact, I don't think I even noticed it. Shame on me! But I haven't watched this episode in ages, maybe I have just forgotten about that.

Argh, stupid computer erased my post... *grumbles, re-writes*
"Trial and Error" is an especially painful episode. I've only watched it two times- once during my first watch with my friend, and the other with my older brother about a week later. I found out about "Trial and Error" much earlier, though. I'd just seen "Jump" a few days before, actually, and I was going to watch more that weekend (I watched the DVDs at my friend's house because I don't own them). I was in this ... strangely euphoric mood, rambling and grinning before school started, and my friend was, meanwhile, quite unhappy. I didn't really pay much attention until she told me she read another Joan of Arcadia recap from season 2 (this is what she did before she bought the DVDs). And she told me that Adam cheats on Joan, killing any form of my happy mood. Then the bell rang and I had to go to class.
She told me later that it was to brace me (and she wished she could've told me in a much softer way) because A/J is my crack in Joan of Arcadia. My brother had no idea, though, and I made sure not to tell him. Before the camera panned up in the Bonnie-bedroom scene, though, he just gasped, "Oh, no, it's Adam..." I stayed curled up in a little ball throughout the rest of the episode, moaning softly until the end. When it was finally over, I just looked over at him and said, "Now do you understand why I'm pissed that we never got a third season?" I would rant all the time about "what would've happened in season three", and my brother used to tell me to stop. He doesn't do that anymore. =P
What totally pisses me off is that the network actually thought people would watch if they did this. How stereotypical do they think teenagers are? I HATED what they did! I mean, if they had to have Adam cheat, don't make it a full-blown sex scandal. If they wanted better ratings, move it to a night where people were going to be home. Simple as that. Don't go and kill a character. Joan and Adam were drifting, and something was bound to happen, but to do it like this... And the fact that this episode had the lowest first-time ratings of season two really says something. It goes to show you that people didn't want to see something like that happen. It said flat-out that Adam betrayed Joan in some way, and people were afraid of seeing that, so they didn't. The network wanted better ratings, but they should've left well enough alone.
... I'm glad to know that I'm at a place where people won't look at me funny for rambling. >.>
My life long dream is to somehow get Adam Rove into a puppy-suit. Until then, my imagination will have to tide me over.

Only thing is NO ONE knew he was going to do it before the ep aired, so that itself could not have driven the ratings down. NONE of us knew he was cheating until that camera panned up. We were all blindsided by what I like to call Adam's "character assassination." Nobody bought it at first. That was NOT the guy they set up doing that. It just rang totally hollow.
Did you read what Chris told us about how much he and all the other actors HATED that storyline?

Oh, yeah, I read it. I heard the interview was on here and I searched through about five of your Chris interviews until I found it. It made me feel a bit better knowing that Chris and Amber didn't want to do it. I really wish we could've seen the show without any network-interference, though.
Despite everything... Those two were simply amazing in the court room, both with Joan's interogation and the confession. You really get a feel for how great they are as actors when you see this episode. Total shame that something so horrible had to happen to see such an emotional performance, though.

Yeah, it is a shame. That night, after I stopped crying and shaking, was the first time I ever Googled Chris. I just HAD to know more about him. He completely blew me away with his performance in that ep. Been hopelessly hooked since then.
You said you were going to look for some of the movies he's done. If you can get hold of American Gun, you're going to see more intense emotion from him, and also those lovely sweet, quiet moments we love so much. But the tearful, agonizing meltdown in front his mom when he learns that he has to change schools is just astonishing.
Can't recommend that one highly enough.

Huh. Sounds like something I'd like. Emotional dramas are good for me (eh, most of the time). I'll have to see if it's at the video store.
Hm. I was thinking about this episode and wondering: Did anything truly happy happen in this episode? It's been awhile since I've seen it (pfft, three weeks) and I'm trying to remember.

No, there was nothing uplifting about T&E. Unless you count Mrs. LandingGod holding and comforting Joan at the end. I kinda don't.
