#1 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Random JoA Stuff... » 22 Dec 11 :: 05:56

I first saw her in Goin South (her first movie), hated the movie, but kept thinking this woman has something.  Then I saw Time After Time, and that was it, she was a star and an absolute delight on screen.  I also agree about Cross Creek, and of course Melvin and Howard.
I do also agree that she shined in Back to the Future 3.  And more recently, and in the holiday spirit, I loved her in Elf.  I only wish there had been more great screen roles for her, (but then she may not have been available for JOA, and that would have been a great loss)

#3 Re: Square Eyes » Amber Tamblyn » 06 Dec 11 :: 23:33

Only made it about 45 minutes in before I gave up.  Colin Firth did 2 things he never should do in movies..smile (he is the rare screen presence which is more appealling when not smiling) ...and do an "american" accent.  It was probably the worst american accent I have ever heard...

#5 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Where the series started and ended... » 03 Dec 11 :: 22:32

I love your thoughts on the show, and I would say that your ideas are the direction I would have hoped they went with the 3rd season.

I guess I am just a little more cynical than you are. My problem with the Ryan Hunter storyline has always been that it felt like the hand of desperate writers.  It felt like they were trying to convince CBS that it would be a new different action show.  And I have always been afraid that is exactly what it would have been.

But since we will never know, we can only imagine what it would have been.  And I must say, I like your version better than mine.

Thank you, I was beginning to think I  was the only one who knew about "the Escape Artist".   and I agree about the House episode, love the way they used Chris's sweetness to fool us.

So, Sean Astin was in The Goonies with Josh Brolin
who was in Milk with Emile Hirsch
who was in The Girl Next Door with....

Patty Duke

#8 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 09 Nov 11 :: 18:19

#9 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 09 Nov 11 :: 16:31

I was suspicious he was on Remington Steele for obvious reasons, but I didn't remember him on it, finally I remembered a movie.

Efram Zimbalist Jr. was in Wait Until Dark with Alan Arkin
who was in Little Miss Sunshine with Paul Dano
who was in The Girl Next Door with...

Ed Wynn

#10 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 08 Nov 11 :: 19:54

#12 Re: Square Eyes » Great TV Ensemble Casts » 30 Oct 11 :: 20:15

Wow, American Gothic...didn't think anyone even remembered that show

I would add The Wire, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show,

#13 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 22 Oct 11 :: 02:40

No wait, I can do this, I forgot it was Jerry Springer and thought it was on someone else, who I couldn't get (if that makes any sense)

Jerry Springer was in his one big lead role, Ringmaster, with Jaime Pressley (embarrassingly I watched it on cable)
Who was in Not Another Teen Movie with Sam Huntington
who was in Fanboys with...

have run out of kids..so...James Whitmore

#14 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 13 Oct 11 :: 20:00

Love the picture

It is possible Fred Savage couldn't be there, because he does work constantly as a director.  But he should have found a way.

#15 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 10 Oct 11 :: 23:00

Really?  I saw the movie 30 years ago, and only remember the old actors and Guttenberg.

Okay then Noah Hathaway was in The Never-ending Story with Barrett Oliver
who was in Cocoon with Jessica Tandy
who was in Nobody's Fool with Bruce Willis
who was in Alpha Dog with...

Well that was easy,,,uh...

how about Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer

#16 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 10 Oct 11 :: 22:44

Barrett Oliver, the other kid in the movie, is the only one I can remember from it, which isn't helping me.  I am stuck here

#17 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 09 Oct 11 :: 04:31

Boy, saw the name and immediately thought Neverending Story....which isn't helping because I can't remember who else was in it..gonna have to think about it

#18 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 08 Oct 11 :: 23:15

Okay, I think I can do it

Wesley was in Land of The Lost with Ron Harper
who was in The Planet of the Apes tv show (I assume that is what that is) with James Naughton
who was in The Paper Chase with Timothy Bottoms
who was in The girl Next door with....

Kevin Corcoran

#20 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 07 Oct 11 :: 21:34

The Kid from Land of the Lost?  Did he or anyone else on that show do anything else?  Unless he had a cameo in the Will Ferrel movie, (which I didn't see) I have no hope.

#21 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 07 Oct 11 :: 21:29

There wouldn't be any Windows either without Steve Jobs, (not just because Bill Gates stole the software from apple), Steve Jobs was the one who came up with the idea of the personal computer.  At that time, no one in the computer industry thought there was a market for small computers for individuals, they were all about mainframes.  It was the apple II, which showed the industry that we all wanted a computer of our own, and opened the door for all of this.

#22 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 07 Oct 11 :: 20:14

I was probably wrong on that one,  I think the guy with the gun and dog was one of the inspirations,  doesn't really look like Atticus, although several of these people look like Rip Torn

#23 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 07 Oct 11 :: 20:04

Who knows, maybe the real guy looked more like Atticus.  And the casting of Rip Torn was actually an insult

#24 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 07 Oct 11 :: 19:43

And Dana Hill was much better in the role.  I always thought claude (clod) described his acting abilities.

His father was played by Atticus in the movie, it that will help Deb

#25 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 06 Oct 11 :: 22:51

Anyone who has ever used a personal computer (all of us) or ever loved a Pixar movie (I assume all of us) owes a serious debt to Steve Jobs.  As I am typing here on my Mac, I can't imagine what the world would have been like if he hadn't lived.

The phrase that someone changed the world is thrown around way to easily, and it has kind of lost it's meaning.  But Steve Jobs really did change the world.
