Jean Arthur was in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" with James Stewart
who was in the "North and South" sequel (which I think was called "North & South II - Electric Bugaloo", but I could be mistaken. wink ) with Kirstie Alley
who was in "Cheers" with Ted Danson
who was in "Talking to Heaven" with Mary Steenburgen
who was in "Joan of Arcadia" with...

hmm How about Chad Lowe?

#302 Re: Square Eyes » Avatar » 07 May 10 :: 21:46

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what he does with all this acclaim.  After "Titanic" DiCaprio tried to do interesting work and not rely solely on his teenybopper fanbase.  I hope "RPatz":rolleyes: does that.  Then maybe you'll acquire a little respect for him.

#303 Re: Fan Fiction » Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies » 07 May 10 :: 21:42

You're very welcome.  I notice a few days ago that the day was coming and I couldn't let it go by without mentioning it.  Carl WILL be missed.  (It's funny.  I sorta feel like I already know some of what's gonna happen. :rofl:)  But today was where it all began.

The Arcadia Herald

May 7, 2010

Carl Rove died suddenly this afternoon at Arcadia General Hospital following a collapse at his workplace.  He was 57.

Carl, a life-long Arcadia resident, had been employed in recent years as a dispatcher for the Arcadia Sheriff's Department.  He was, for many years, head night janitor for the Arcadia Police Department where his dedication to duty and friendly demeanor endeared him to all those who worked with him.  Supervisor and former chief of police William Girardi had this to say, "Carl Rove was one of the finest men I ever worked with.  An exceptionally hard worker, he always had a kind word for anyone who needed it.  He was a great source of strength and encouragement, and a calming influence in a workplace often fraught with tension and difficulty.  He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.  My wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to Adam and the rest of Carl's family."

Carl is survived by his son, Adam Rove, also of Arcadia; his sister, Louisa Rove Tillerman and husband, Armin, of Bucks County, Pennsylvania; his nephew James Callahan and wife, Susan, also of Bucks County; and great-nephews Hunter, Zachary, and Jonah Callahan.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret MacCready Shaw, of Boca Raton, Florida; nephew Craig Shaw and wife, Donna, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and great-niece Stephanie Shaw.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 24 years, Elizabeth MacCready Rove; and his parents, Thomas Rove and Eileen Griffin Rove.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 8, from 2-6:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at Hogan Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Hogan Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Fair Oaks Cemetery.  Afterwards friends are invited to stop by, raise a glass, and share memories of Carl at Johnny O'Herlihy's Irish Restaurant and Pub.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Carl's name to either the Arcadia Law Enforcement Benevolent Fund, the Hogan County Suicide Prevention Hotline, or the Maryland Mental Health Association.

#306 Re: Square Eyes » Avatar » 07 May 10 :: 19:20

I don't know enough about "Avatar" to have much curiosity about it.  I'm sure I'll see the DVD eventually.  I'm not a big sci-fi person, for one thing.  But I usually like James Cameron's work, so I'll give it a shot.

What I like about Pattinson is that he seems to be having the time of his life.  It's like he knows he's the luckiest SOB on the planet and he's gonna enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.  That's always fun to watch.  UNTIL...he starts getting into typical young-actor excesses like destroying cars, hotel rooms, etc; abusing various substances; being caught with Hollywood Blvd. hookers; and basically taking all the success for granted, like it's no more that his due.  So far, I'm okay with him.

Wow!  This one took me awhile, and it was pretty easy.  I don't know what's wrong with me lately!

John Cleese was in "A Fish Called Wanda" with Kevin Kline
who was in "Definitely, Maybe" with Ryan Reynolds
who was in "Just Friends" with...

How about Scott Glenn?

#308 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 06 May 10 :: 18:10

I've seen "They All Laughed"!  It was really cute.  I used to love Colleen Camp, she was hilarious.  I think that movie got lost because of Dorothy Stratten's murder.  Not the best publicity in the world for a romantic comedy.

I don't know if John and Jason Ritter ever did anything together or not.  I hope so.  I know that when Jason was a toddler he appeared in the opening credits (with Joyce DeWitt) bottle feeding a goat at a petting zoo.  I don't know if playing a baby at a petting zoo constitutes acting if you actually WERE a baby at a petting zoo. tongue

I'll have to think about John Cleese.:/

#309 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 05 May 10 :: 22:05

Or how about George Peppard?  I realized I couldn't remember anything Ben Gazarra had done either.:)

#310 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 04 May 10 :: 21:15

Piper Laurie was in "Children of a Lesser God" with Marlie Matlin
who was in "Picket Fences" with Fyvush Frankel
who was in "Boston Public" with...

Ben Gazzara?

#311 Re: Square Eyes » Lynn Redgrave Dead at 67 » 03 May 10 :: 19:53

VERY sad!  I can't believe it.  My heart goes out to her children.

#312 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 03 May 10 :: 19:52

Brenda Fricker was in "So I Married An Ax Murderer" with Alan Arkin
who was in "Little Miss Sunshine" with Paul Dano
who was in "The Girl Next Door" with...

Michael Caine?

#313 Re: Square Eyes » Avatar » 30 Apr 10 :: 22:27

:rofl:  That's great.  Did you buy it at the video store?  I'm glad you got it, if you wanted it.  Are you gonna put anything on the shelves?

#315 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 30 Apr 10 :: 19:55

I remember that, too!  I was glad he did it.  That performance was a tour de force, and he was a little-known actor at the time.  Usually I don't believe in crossing picket lines, either.  But they weren't going to work.  They were going to their industry's annual awards banquet.  I'm glad he was there to accept the award for what might be the best work he'll ever get to do.

#316 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 30 Apr 10 :: 19:43

I just remembered that she was in that thing about Guyana.  With Powers Booth.  Who was in "Deadwood" with Timothy Olyphant.  Who was in "The Girl Next Door" with...

How about Dyan Cannon?

#317 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 28 Apr 10 :: 18:56

I'm almost positive that Daniel Craig & Cieran Hinds were both in Spielberg's movie about the 1972 Olympics in Munich.  I waited 3 days because I wasn't 100% positive.  But I'm 98.763%, so I'm guessing.  A little.  Cieran Hinds, of course, was in "Race to Witch Mountain" and "Life During Wartime" with...

Ron Perlman?

#318 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 22 Apr 10 :: 21:24

See if you can do it without "The Dead Girl". :doh:

#319 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 22 Apr 10 :: 20:10

Great "Shattered" reference, Rick!:lol:  You & I might be the only people in the world who were able to sit all the way through that one.  I think it really took that "Big Chill" sheen off of Mr. Berenger's career.

Jamison Parker was in "Simon & Simon" with Gerald McRaney
who was in "Designing Women" with Annie Potts
who was on "Joan of Arcadia" with...

Have we done Bruce Davison?

#320 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 20 Apr 10 :: 20:22

I'm sure there are lots of shorter ways, but "Cookie's Fortune" is one of my favorite movies, so:

Courtney B. Vance was in "Cookie's Fortune" with Glenn Close
who was in "Damages" and "Something About Amelia" with Ted Danson
who was in "Gulliver's Travels" with Mary Steenburgen
who was in "Joan of Arcadia" with...

Greta Scacchi?

#321 Re: Square Eyes » Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies) » 19 Apr 10 :: 20:35

Very pretty.  But, even if he WAS my best friend, I'm not sure I'd want my daughter to marry him. wink

#322 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 19 Apr 10 :: 19:31

I watched an old movie I had on tape yesterday that I haven't watched in YEARS.  And it answered this 6 degrees.  So, there you go:

Zero Mostel was in "The Hot Rock" with Paul Sand
who was in "Joan of Arcadia" with...

How about...(this is the hardest part, IMO):/... William Atherton

#323 Re: Square Eyes » Dixie Carter has died at 70 » 13 Apr 10 :: 00:44

i just heard about this.  Sad, sad, sad.:(

#324 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 12 Apr 10 :: 21:58

I like the real guy, though.  Taking paternity leave during?  That's a real new-age PM!  Can you imagine Dubya or Nixon giving up a few weeks in office to change "nappies"?

#325 Re: All About Chris » 6 Degrees of Chris » 07 Apr 10 :: 00:23

Phoebe Cates was in "Drop Dead Fred" with Rik Mayall
who was in "The Young Ones" with Stephen Fry
