Exactly why I added that one word "eventually." wink

Since we're on the subject of putting money in Weinstein's pockets (by accident or otherwise), I feel compelled to mention that they've released 9 movies so far this year, and the #2 movie of the weekend, Zack and Miri, took in this first weekend ($10.7M) almost what their most successful movie of the year took in its entire run (Under the Same Moon with $12.6M).

Of course, not one of the other 7 movies even broke $1M. So Zack and Miri made more in its first weekend what all their #2-8 movies made combined all year.

Again, this is the optimist in me saying that maybe they will (eventually) market Fanboys better than we expect. Just sayin'. You know me, always looking for that glimmer of hope.

Ahh...I thought there should be a place for posts about Sean. big_smile

Looks like High School is the baby of Warren Zide. He's probably best known for producing all 6 American Pie movies as well as all 3 Final Destination movies.

The script was co-written by the writer of both Grudge films.

#204 Re: All About Chris » The Brothers Marquette » 02 Nov 08 :: 21:22

Looks like Sean may be getting typecast. :silly:

#205 Re: Square Eyes » Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies) » 02 Nov 08 :: 21:19

The funny thing is, when Michael was first cast all the fans who had read the books said that when they saw him that he was exactly what they pictured Mike Newton would look like! We have literally thousands of comments and messages on his MySpace as well as thousands of comments at all the various posts on all the sites that talked about it, and it was freaky how many said that. Almost every post which praised the casting decision (which was almost all) said that he was exactly how they saw Mike Newton.

So, in an odd way, I'm willing to bet that you seeing Michael Welch when you read about Mike Newton isn't so different from what you would have imagined even if you had read the book first!

My pleasure! Nick Braun is in it too, who co-starred in Sky High with Mikey Angarano. It's actually a remake of a 1999 Danish film.

I saw the theatrical trailer in the theater for the first time last night. I usually miss them because I rarely go to the cinema but I went up to New York for a play, and my friend and I went to a Halloween midnight showing of The Haunting of Molly Hartley in Times Square. I bet him that they'd show it and, sure enough, it was the very first trailer. Looks pretty good up on the big screen.

I think if it included transportation it might be a good deal for me LOL.

Not to take away from the wonderful idea, but between you and me anybody can go to the Borders podcast and anyone can go to the red carpet. Both are open to the public. Anyone can also get a couple of cheap hotel rooms.

Of course, if this group has some sort of reserved spot up front at either or both events it might not be a bad deal. And they probably got a discount off the rooms. One room double occupancy is normally $133 for 2 Queen non-smoking. That would be $266. Of course, the trip says the $250 is for 4 people, so I don't know what the price is for 2. So if you have people you'd save $16 per person I guess.

#213 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 31 Oct 08 :: 00:30

Basically (if it's true) what it means is that that they have declared a $50 million loss, partly on the basis of having to move the films. By doing so, they pay less in taxes.

The Forbidden Kingdom made $21M opening weekend and took in $52M domestic, $73.5M overseas, for a total of $125.6M worldwide. But I don't know how much they got -- Lionsgate was the primary distributor and obviously got the lion's share (no pun intended).

"Real fans don't wait in line."

Ironic, eh?

#215 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 30 Oct 08 :: 01:40

I have a short video of Emile answering a couple of questions on the red carpet. It's 75.6MB.

I also have a bunch of very high-res pics, 2000 x 3000, @ 1.41MB each.

I can't really post them but can send to whomever may want.

Like I said, cheesy Asian martial arts films. tongue (j/k)

#219 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 28 Oct 08 :: 00:47

I hope this isn't too off-topic, and you can move it if it is, but I've seen a few posts here and there from our friends outside the US and I'm curious (well, confused) about what kinds of films you get where you are and what you prefer.

Here in America, foreign (non-English speaking) films are almost never dubbed. In fact, I've never seen one in all the years I'm doing this (except cheesy Asian martial arts or bad Bollywood movies on TV), and I've probably seen about 300 non-English speaking films just in the last few years. They are always subtitled. The same goes for DVDs that I get.

I've seen some of you talk about getting English-speaking films dubbed. Is this common practice? If they are dubbed, do you prefer them that way or would you rather they be subtitled?

Do you get them subtitled? If they are subtitled, do you prefer them that way or would you rather they be dubbed?

Do you ever try to get Region 1 DVDs over there and play them either with an all-region DVD player or on a computer with a region-free program?

TIA

I agree. I would have loved to see that play. There's propably no way that will ever happen unless someone tapes it. So never. I hope one day I'll get to the US and get lots of great theater experiences.

I do have some good news for you. While you may not get to see it performed live onstage, the movie rights have been sold to Overture Films. When it will be made into a movie and whether or not it will ever make it to you in the cinema and/or make it to you on DVD are questions that cannot be answered right now but certainly there is hope. smile

Neil (director) told me privately in May that it would be premiering on Starz "this fall." He then announced it publicly at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June.

However, no date has been announced yet and Starz has made no mention of the film at all.

Good question, Larry. VOD would be kinda cool, I guess. Maybe they're gonna do something like they did with American Gun, release it on VOD at the same time as in limited theaters.

And, technically, Defamer is wrong. Fanboys was pushed back to February, not January.

-TeeJay

FWIW, Michael's American Crime went straight to cable and did GANGBUSTERS. MILLIONS more saw it than would have in theaters. The same will be happening with American Son (although I don't think it will come close to the success of Crime).

It's really a win/win for both the distributor and cable company, especially if both have the same owner (like IFC and HDNet).

We just don't know yet. He may not do any at all. I'd say let's hold off on any further promotion of the play until we know. At the very least we'll certainly post the review but we'd have to make it clear if and when (or not) he'll be doing it because, obviously, we can't have people thinking he's in it when he's not. But we also don't want to post it and say "we don't know..."

I'll definitely let you know as soon as I do. Then we can coordinate everything perfectly. smile

#225 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 25 Oct 08 :: 22:23

BTW Just between you, me, and the stove, Michael may not be appearing in Speech and Debate anymore, for the most part.

The bad news is, the official run which he committed to ends tomorrow.

The good news is, they are extending it to November 16.

The bad news is, Michael begins shooting Rough Hustle so he will not be able to appear in the play through the extension.

The good news is, he MAY be able to do an occasional show depending on his shooting schedule.

What we are going to do is look at his shooting schedule, look at the play schedule, see if and when he can do any performances, and then announce the extension and any shows he will be doing, if any.

So for now we aren't really going to promote it. Stay tuned for more info.
