Deb, Abbie PM'ed me the other day and said something about the special edition DVD. I was always of the impression that there was never all that much hope for a special edition to begin with. Nick would have loved to get it out there, but Universal just didn't seem interested in investing anything more in the movie. Nick also mentioned something about major obstacles, lawyer stuff and such.

Was that impression wrong? Because Abbie said that basically Nick has assembled or is still assembling everything he wants on the special edition DVD and is only waiting for the Universal go-ahead. That sounded like it might not take that much longer and that it's a done deal that there will be one.

You know anything more about this? I never really go to the AD IMDb board anymore.

Don't be surprised if Universal does release a Special Edition sometime in the future.
With how much it's made, especially non U.S. (which now accounts for over 50% of the film's total worldwide gross) and the almost $20 million in DVD rentals and an unknown amount of DVD sales, the film has likely made Universal a nice little return.

So far on Universal's Video site there is no listing other than the 3 previous releases and the 2 pack with 8 Mile. Also there is no news on any of the DVD news site.

If Universal is working with Nick on a Special Edition I would assume that it'll be released anytime from around X-Mas or within a year or so.

I would like them to wait until they can get most of the cast together to record an audio commentary.

Oooh, a cast audio commentary would be awesome. A director's commentary as well. And of course we're all waiting for the deleted scenes and all the great goodies that Nick says he has. Let's all just keep our fingers crossed, then.

There is no news about this. It's all speculation at this point. Nick has said he wants it to happen and that he has the goods. He did say he was just waiting for Uni's go-ahead, but they have given nothing of the sort and no one knows when or if they ever will. If we're speculating, I think it'll happen someday. But this might be a time for some of your German pessimism. Unless you wanna be disappointed.

Speaking of Nick.

I have him on my "friends" list on IMDB. It shows that he was on IMDB 14 Hours ago. However his last post was all the way back on May 31st.

I can't figure out why he visits IMDB, but hasn't posted anything at all for over a month. Even though many people ask questions about AD. Basically leaving deb to answer questions and to sometimes defend the film or those involved in it. I know he's probably busy, but he does visit frequently - it wouldn't take him long to post something on the MB.

Does it seem odd that shortly after the DVD was released he stopped posting, but continues to visit IMDB?

Getting back to the potential Special Edition DVD.
I agree with deb that at this time it's mere speculation. Until it's posted on a realiable DVD news site or the Universal site, it's all just speculation and wishful thinking.
But, also remember that studios love to repackage films on DVD and get consumers to double or triple dip on a purchase of the same film on DVD. If some studios can release some of the worst films as Special Editions, then there is some hope that AD will eventually get the SE treatment.

I really wish that comes true. But as I know film industry, they will continue to release crap movie SE's and just ignore the fans of the really good movies. Just like it's the same with TV industry. They cancel all the good shows and bring more crap to the TV than anyone can bear.

I felt awful he didn't even wanna stay at the hotel he wanted to go with the drunk girls. But I bet he thought it was safer to stay with frankie and zach. Then elvis forced him to dig zachs grave so he got 8 years. He's really the most innocent out of everybody

Except for the fact that he knew Zack was kidnapped almost as soon as he met him. And he held him for Frankie for a while. Now I'm sure he never thought anything bad was going to happen because he knew Frankie was basically an OK guy, but still...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally disagreeing with you. Since Keith was played by my favorite young actor in the world, Chris Marquette, I do have a tremendous soft spot for him. But he could've done something to stop what was happening before it got to be too late and he didn't.

My hope is that when the real guy, Graham Pressley gets out of jail, he will get his life back on track and do something postitive with it. According to Marquette, Pressley's a borderline genuis who was probably going to go to an Ivy League school on a soccer scholarship. But he got sidetracked chasing the endless party.

Very sad.

awwwwwwe i didnt know that about Graham. i hope he does get better. but yes, i adree with the poster, i was upset when he got charged with second degree, all he dd was sit in the car. i cry every tie i watch it for him. and probably for chris, i agree with the person above me, hes my favorite up and coming actor, too.

Of course she heard it! My dead grandmother in Omaha heard it!

Yeah, I felt sorry that he was charged as well. Even though he knew Zach was kidnapped, but Zach didn't really seem to mind when he met him so he probably just assumed everything would be okay. Maybe at the very least, he could have gotten probation.

Keith aside, I felt just sick that a young kid's life was taken for no real reason. They could have let him go, but they chose to have him killed.
At least they found Johnny Hollywood(Truelove).

Oh, and Chris is also someone who I enjoy watching. I really hope he will get go far. I think he has the talent to do so.

Or are you just a friend?

I've been on his board a few times, I've never posted anything. Never know when or where to jump into a conversation. Eveyone seems pretty tight there, so it's weird to just try to blend in.
But I know how that is. I stay mostly at one board and everyone is pretty close over there as well.
