And the T-Mobile pink? Eww. That's not a nice pink, if there ever was one. But maybe better than a bright orange Levitra shirt that I got from Lars, who works with Bayer.

You know what I also get tired of? People at IMDb saying things like: We feel so sorry for the cancer dude because his last dying wish is to see Episode I. We hope he doesn't turn in his grave for having made that his last wish.

And as a reply to one of those, I posted this:

You know... maybe it's not about the movie, about Episode I. It's about the fandom. It's about Star Wars as a whole. It's about loving something that you believe in so much that you take on the impossible and drive across half the country to make your dying friend's last wish come true, it involving a sucky movie or not (because, yes, I also didn't like Episode I much). When you look at it that way, it's really something incredibly powerful. Because what in this world is more important than friends you can count on, friends who support you, friends who would give their last shirt for you?

I wish more people would see that this movie is not about some kids trying to steal a first glimpse at Episode I. It's a movie about friendship and support and being there for each other. And, yes, there will be comedic moments too. Because friends usually have fun together. Friends do crazy things and maybe even sometimes really stupid things. And friends will stick with you, even though you do all of those things. And I'm quite sure you will find a bit of all of that in this movie. And that, I think, will make it a movie worthwhile, that you walk out of with a good feeling.

People that go see this movie expecting it to laud Ep I may be in for a surprise. Ep I is so beside the point! These characters have very little idea what to expect from Ep I as the story goes along. All they've got is the usual Internet speculation and rumor. How are they supposed to know the movie's gonna be considered not so great?

It's just as silly to write off Fanboys based on the fact that one didn't like Ep I as it is to write of the ROTN remake because one does not believe such a "classic" (barf!) could ever be remade. God, why do the people at IMDb have to be so stupid? And redundant? I'm just so sick of it all.

As a non-Star Wars fan, I can say that I couldn't really care less about Ep I. But I would hope that if I found out I was dying tomorrow, some of my friends might load me up in their car and drive me to Kyle Newman's place to see an early cut of Fanboys!

Speaking as a big Star Wars fan, we knew for years that Episode one was in the works and there are no words to describe the excitement felt as we anticipated it's release.
Regardless of whether or not the movie was that great , I still enjoyed the surrounding events around this time. I would scan the magazines and websites for any snippit of info I could find, or maybe a sneak peek picture of someone in costume or make-up. I remember the excitement my friends and I felt when we saw the first trailer, and how much fun we had discussing and speculating what scene was what...and how cool it was to see a Young Anakin, Palpatine and Obi-Wan, the planet Coruscant(Which was only mentioned in the books at the time)etc,etc..
We had a blast going to the Star Wars Celebration up in Denver which featured the actors, and exclusive footage from the movie and showcased the merchandise as well. We enjoyed going to Wal*Mart at Midnight to pick up some of the figures as they were first made available to the public. Also had a blast spending the night in line at the theater with my friends, and being on the radio and on TV in the process. All of this took place before I ever even saw the movie.
When I sat through the movie, I was excited to just be seeing a new Star Wars movie in the first place. So much was happening on the screen and in the story, that I didn't really have a chance to sit there to analyize and break apart what I did and didn't like until I had seen the movie several times. There are parts of the movie that are pretty cool, but unfortunately they are always overlooked because the negative outweighs the positive.
This is kinda how I see Linus viewing the entire experience. He has a great and memorable time with his friends, as well as mending a friendship that was on the skids with Eric. The movie is only a small part of the entire experience. These friends will remember this experience based on the quality time they spent together, not on how great of a movie Ep I turned out to be.

Thank you, Sean, for that. I can totally see what you were describing because we have a few SW nerds at the Trek-Dinner too (the Trekkies and fanboys don't always have to battle each other ) and I know how excited they were. They also dressed up for the movie in Stormtrooper armor or Darth Vader costumes, getting out their light sabers, going to the midnight premieres. I think Edwin watched Episode I ten times in the theater.

And I can totally understand. I will make myself a Fanboys t-shirt and totally wear it when the movie makes it over here and I see it in the cinema for the first time. Not that anyone will really notice, but... I mean, we have our own Dorquette shirts. We have the Adam-lion shirts. We have the drool towels. I have a shirt with a tongue-sticking-out Chris on my back. And there's some pretty intense fanish things I've done in the past that were about other TV shows I loved. I can totally understand all the hype and excitement. And I can totally understand how the five fanboys must be feeling about Episode I.

Oh, and Sean? Do you know if there's a tagline for Fanboys? If not, can you think of a good one? Also... you still owe me that e-mail about the synopsis and the quote(s).

Well said, Sean. I'm not so much into Star Wars, but I'll watch the movie anyway. It's not a movie about Star Wars, it's a movie about friendship and that is what counts for me.

I know Ernie Cline's old poster had, "A film about friendship, tresspassing, and delusions of grandeur" on it.

I'll definitely get those quotes out to you too. I had a few props/photos packed up from Fanboys, including the script, so I'll have to hit the garage and get that out for you guys.
