Re: Fanboys

I think it was a good idea to re-post the trailer. The Fanboys Thread is really big, I don't think anyone wants to dig through hundreds of pages just to find the trailer. They probably just look on the newest pages, so having the trailer there should be good.

I wonder who's running the Fanboys MySpace. They don't seem to take their job very seriously. Or maybe this is just a problem on my end, but when I view the page with Firefox, all I see is white text on a white background. They edited their design, so that you're supposed to see a dark starry background, but it doesn't show up for me in Firefox (only in IE), and I'm quite sure it's not an AdBlock problem because I can't see it either when I switch the AdBlock plugin off.

This is the URL: http://www.myspace.com/fanboysmovie

Has anyone tried to access the Fanboys MySpace page with Firefox and has the same problem I do? Sean, did you use Firefox when you said you saw the starry background? I'd just like to know if it's something on my end.

Re: Fanboys

I just downloaded firefox and checked, and it's not just your computer, TeeJay. It's white on white on mine too.  I don't know why, but there's so many websites that only work on firefox and don't look right on IE and vise versa... it's really annoying.

Re: Fanboys

Maybe it would help if you sent the Fanboys MySpace people a MySpace message to tell them about it. They're bound to do something about it if it's more than one person complaining about it.

Re: Fanboys

I don't know.  I complained once to a webmaster of a website that I couldn't see it correctly because I was viewing it in IE and not firefox... she told me to get firefox.  I'll send a message though.

Re: Fanboys

They should design their page so that MOST people can see it, no matter what browser they use, at least for the most common browsers. And I dare say Firefox has become very common.

Re: Fanboys

Kyle just posted this as bulletin via MySpace:

I am guest CO-HOST of this weeks force-cast!!! GO LISTEN

If you like star wars and you can tolerate me... then you will LOVE this weeks force-cast (a Star Wars podcast rom the folks at theforce.net).

**The best podcast on planet earth according a soon to be conducted poll!**

"Hosts Jason, Pete, and special guest co-host - Fanboys Director, Kyle Newman, present the week's top Star Wars news, including a real life "Wookie defense," Family Guy's Blue Harvest gets the one-sheet treatment, and players of Star Wars Galaxies wreak havoc for a good cause. Plus, an Indy 4 update, and Kyle takes your calls and questions. If it's Friday, it's time for the Force-Cast."

You can find it on itunes. the episode for the week of September 14th, 2007.

enjoy
(or try... http://theforce.net/topstory/story/Forc … 08810.asp)

Why would he send it after the podcast was already recorded? If Kyle answers questions for fans, where did they come from? Man, we might have liked to send something in as well that he could have answered. neutral

He's there on the phone, by the way, I'm just listening to it. Ah, now I get it. You were able to listen to it live at TalkShoe and call in with questions. Still, it would have been nice to know about it beforehand, even though I wouldn't have been able to call TalkShoe.

What's cool is that Kyle says they're trying to do merchandise for Fanboys. They were talking about that Lucas seems to have a policy to not allow merchandise for SW-related movies (Space Balls in particular), but Kyle says they might get something for Fanboys out there. Wow. I hope they do!

Re: Fanboys

Force Cast is something different from what Sean posted the other week. But I think that worked via TalkShoe too. Force Cast is the theforce.net weekly podcast. The other thing wasn't done by theforce.net, can't remember who it was associated with.

Re: Fanboys

Okay, so a caller asked Kyle about the Fanboys release date in the podcast (hello?? You can look that up on the 'net, silly!). He said Jan 18 as of now, but he also mentioned that the Weinsteins have a history of moving release dates around a lot and that they might change it again. So basically he's saying: Don't count on it. Yeah, like we don't know...

And Kyle says he's very frustrated about it. And  And he's asking the fans to write to the Weinsteins and complain, asking us to let the Weinsteins know how much we're all anticipating this movie. So, why don't we go for it?

Someone else asked if it'll open nationally or if it's gonna be showing at select theaters only. Kyle said what he's said before: It's gonna be a wide release. They wanna do corporate tie-ins, like tie the movie to fast food chains. This is one of the reasons they're waiting with the release date because they're waiting for marketing opportunities, Kyle says. Oooh, so do we get Fanboys action figures with our McDonalds Happy Meals, then? Yay! <bounce bounce bounce> I'm gonna eat there every day. LOL (Though this'll probably be a US-only thing.) Someone in the chat already requested a Fanboys lunch box. smile

Kyle wants to make an end credits thing where he shows rooms or people with Fanboys merch like slippers and bedsheets and action figures and stuff. That's so cool. Kyle, invite me over, I'll pose with my Fanboys t-shirt! Ah, okay, so Kyle gives us even some details. He wants to do a Matchbox version of Bucephalus (the van) and Hasbro figures of two or three characters (Linus, please!!!!) plus the "standard stuff" you get with films. Yes, PLEASE!!!!

You can really hear how frustrated Kyle is with all the pushbacks. He said after while he was like, "Man, just get it out there!"

This is interesting. Kyle doesn't know who's running the Fanboys MySpace page. So it's not even official or sanctioned. Suprising.

Someone asked what the budget for The Hollow (another of Kyle's movies) and Fanboys was. He said The Hollow was $750,000 and (if I understood it right) Fanboys was $5,000,000.

I might just drop Kyle another MySpace message and comment on some things.

Ugh. So we'll hopefully get to see the movie before 2020! roll
But at least Kyle's as frustrated as we are.

LOL @ the Happy Meals. I am going to eat every day too. And yeah, I also want a Linus action figure. big_smile

Re: Fanboys

That's some great info there Tina.
Thanks for listening and for posting it.
Fanboys merch would be great! I know we've been talking about it forever, but it's good to hear that there's a possibility for it.  The only 'merch' out there so far has been the freebie stuff given out at Cons. That would be so surreal seeing Fanboys Happy Meal toys, lol. Reminds me of when Burger King did the Star Wars toys. Jacen and I were eating there way more than I'd care to admit since there were 30+ toys to collect.
Anyways,
When ever it was annouced that JJ Abrams' new movie project would be released on 1-18-08, I got a little nervous and I have a feeling Fanboys may be moved again. I hope this isn't the case, but ya never know.

Re: Fanboys

If the J.J. Abrams movie keeps the 1-18-08 date, I'm sure the Weinsteins will push Fanboys back a week or two. I'm actually expecting them to, so it wouldn't come as a surprise to me. Kyle hinted as much, even though he didn't spell it out. As long as you guys get to see the movie before March 2008, I'll be happy. I would be happier if it was earlier than that, but at this point I think February '08 is our best bet.

Re: Fanboys

Lizzy just posted in another thread that the Fanboys trailer is indeed showing in theaters now. She said it ran in front of "School for Scoundrels", which appears to be a Weinstein movie (and I suppose yet another flop since I hadn't heard anything about it before today).

I mean, what is wrong with the Weinsteins?! TONS of people went to see Superbad. Who is gonna go see this movie mentioned above? If they are so anxious and careful to place the Fanboys release date so that it skews the most possible viewers, why don't they put the trailer with a movie that promises to be halfway successful at the box office?

PS: Dan Fogler was in School for Scoundrels... And the movie is obviously a bad remake of a British movie, if the IMDb reviews can be believed. It cost 20 million to make and it only made 17 million at the box office, according to IMDb. It apparently opened in August in Germany. I consider myself amply informed about movies, but this one has completely passed me by. Probably for good reason.

Re: Fanboys

Wait a minute... School for Scoundrels was released in the US in 2006? Something's wrong here. I'm confused. Maybe Lizzy was talking about another movie.

I've actually been to that site, Sean. Deb and I watched the trailer when I was at her place. I don't see it moving either. So it's gonna be another pushback for Fanboys, you can count on it. I say February 1, 2008.
