Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

CHRIS DELETED SCENE REPORT - SPOILERS AHEAD...

OK, first, they're on the second page, go click on MORE to get there.

Scene 1) Marcus and Pete, a longer version of the scene in the movie where Marcus drags Pete out to move the body.  In this version he calls Pete weak, Chris looks like he's gonna cry and then he throws up when they take off the manhole cover.

Scene 2) Pete steals Nick's money.  I think this comes right after he helps Marcus move the body.  He's pretty emotional through it.  Looks at a picture of him with Nick.  Then at a poster of that lone guy facing down the tanks in Tienemen Square, probably wishing he had even a fraction of that courage.  Then he splits.  Nick watches the whole thing.

Scene 3) Pete's interrogation.  His dad's with him. Nick is at first telling him he's better than he thinks he is and he should speak up.  But he doesn't say a word.  Nothing.  Nick gets mad, Pete's dad takes him out of there, the cops kind of threaten him.  Nice work from Chris.

Scene 4) Pete runs, literally runs out of his house as fast as he can when the cops show up, but they catch him.  He gets tackled and Doree's stage money falls out!  ;-)

That's about it guys.

Not worth buying the DVD for, until you can pick it up cheap, I'd say.  Unless you like the movie.  Best thing I can say about it is Chris was really cute in the movie and it's going to make awesome screencaps!  Can't wait for TeeJay to get her copy...

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

Doing the deletions with commentary now.  Goyer says they cut some of Pete's stuff in the scene with Marcus because they "didn't need it", but he does express how great Chris is in the scene, the pain on his face.  And how unfair it was to cut it.

The "strand" of Pete panicking and stealing the money, deciding to run, they say was cut for time.  Great, thanks.  They were just "using Pete" to further the police investigation anyway.  Hello, Mr. Plot Device.

Pete's interrogation they cut to keep Nick "by Annie's side" for the rest of the film after the club scene.  Ack.

The running away scene: Chris had to take a face plant into the concrete 4 or 5 times.  Valiant effort, no reward.  He got the crap beat out of him on this movie, poor guy.  But Goyer says he was fine.  The old guy was the one who got hurt doing the tackling.  They said they cut most of the cop plot because it wasn't necessary.  People know there's an investigation going on from watching TV procedurals.  They didn't need to see it.

That's it folks.  I don't have time to do the commentary for the whole movie.  And somehow I'm not too bothered about it.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

Nah, I understand.  You got emotionally involved.  That's great.  Unfortunately for me, I find that the more I watch the movie, the more pathetic and despicable I find Pete to be and I'm glad he's not my friend.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

Oh, I felt sorry for him too.  But my God, he helped them dump Nick's body!  The other things he does (that are in the official cut of the film), I can almost forgive.  But I don't care what he thought they might do to him, lifting one finger to help with that is just... evil.  One minute, he's crying, "What did you do?!?" over and over and checking Nick to see if he's alive.  Next shot, he's helping dump the body.  I can't get past that.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

Or is it, "Confused much, Mr. Director"?  I don't they oughta let Goyer direct anymore movies.  He's just very haphazard about it.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

mk so I noticed something. When we frist see Pete, Annie cuts his left thumb. Then at luch we see him with a bandaid on his left hand. Then in the bedroom scene he cringes when Nick grabs his left hand...but when we see him looking at the plane ticket he has a bandaid on his right hand and not the left. Or atleast I think, or maybe I just pa a little too much attention to Chris wink

I wanna watch it first before I start capping all the Chris scenes. But if I start watching soon, I might have enough time for both.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

Yeah, and if you're like me, you might wanna fast forward through some parts.  I did.  Twice was enough all the way through.  I did watch scenes other than Chris scenes because I like *some* of the other parts of the movie.  Just not many.

I'm quite sure I'll watch the whole thing. My first (and only) viewing was not very rewarding, I could hardly make any of the facial expressions out.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

I have quite a few things to say, but let me start with this. Deb, I know this was a matter of huge discussion over on IMDb, but I feel I need to bring it up again (and I promise I'm not doing it to annoy you). This is about Pete's suicide (attempt?). And I'm still convinced that in this version of the movie they didn't mean for Pete to actually die. Why? Let me try to explain.

In the beginning of the movie, they used the bird to illustrate that Nick is in limbo--not quite alive but also not quite dead. The bird flies against the window and lies there, dying. While it's still struggling to keep alive, it sits on Nick's shoulder and he takes it in his hands. Then, when it does die, the bird is gone from Nick's hand. So that indicates that if an in-limbo being vanishes from the in-limbo world, it has either come back to life or has died.

When we go back to the Pete suicide scene, the in-limbo Pete suddenly appears to Nick after he has taken the pills and is lying on the bed, seizing in his life-and-death struggle. He breaks down, crying, seeing himself. Suddenly his father comes in and the in-limbo Pete is gone. And the real Pete wakes from the seizure and speaks, clearly still alive. Which, to any audience, would suggest that, at least for the moment, he is alive.

Of course that doesn't mean that Pete couldn't still have died from the drug overdose later. The fact is: We don't know what happened to him. Yes, it is a fact that in the Swedish version of the movie Pete dies and that in the book Pete dies. But in this movie, in the last scene we see him in, he is still alive. That would make me expect that most people will assume Pete lived. Myself included.

I checked the commentaries for this scene. Both of them. In none they say whether Pete lived or died, but Goyer said "Pete's possible suicide" or "Pete's possible death" and the other guy kept explaining how in the Swedish version of the movie Pete died with (to me) an undertone of "as opposed to this version". I know that's by no means proof, but I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Now let me go make you guys some awesome Chris caps. I'll talk more about the deleted scenes later. smile Let me just say that I was really jazzed after I saw them. Chris's best work for this movie is in his deleted scenes. Not fair!

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

I know all that.  My argument is that this watered-down, sanitized for the protection of teeny-boppers version of the story absolutely RUINS Pete's character arch by pussing out and letting him live.  Pete died damnit.  He deserved to die and he died.  Otherwise there is utterly no point to his existence in the film.  It's a cop-out and a poorly-written one at that.  Kinda like another ridiculous thing that happened to a Chris character named Adam.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

Oh yeah, no one's disputing the fact that they should have made it clearer whether Pete died or not. You know what also ticked me off, especially after the second viewing? All these teenie boppers keep talking about how Nick and Annie should have gotten together. There is NO love story whatsoever in that movie, especially not with Annie and Nick. There is NO chemistry. I don't see where people get this ridiculous idea from.

And the goof with the band aids is right, I'm seeing it too as I'm making the caps. In the cafeteria scene it's the left hand, in the scene where Nick shows Pete the plane tickets, it's the right hand.

Re: The Invisible (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!)

It's not just that they should've made it clear whether he died or not.  They should have LET HIM DIE.  That was the author's intent.  Otherwise, his existence in the story is meaningless.  I would've liked to see the real, actual ending too.  Chris didn't disown this movie because some of his scenes were cut.  He disowned it because the story was completely bastardized in the final cut.
