Yeah, we all know they really messed up the movie. And Pete's suicide is, unfortunately, part of it. I still think Chris's best work is in his deleted scenes. And I feel so bad for him, I don't wanna imagine what a hard time he must have had during that shoot. For all but one or two scenes, he's this sad, guilt-ridden, weak guy, there's a permanent frown etched in his face. And it's not just the character, I believe Chris became a version of Pete for a while up there in Vancouver. And then all the rain and all the shooting in wet clothes with wet hair. Must've been really depressing and cold, not only physically.

I would also like to have seen the original version of the scene where Annie's jabbing Pete in the chest with the gun. Chris was so fierce in that scene! "You killed him for NOTHING!" Woulda been cooler if they hadn't hacked it up to eliminate the gun. Another concession to the rating. I think that scene is his best in the whole film. I do love his laughter in that scene in Nick's room though.

You know, actually I'm not so sure if maybe Chris meant that scene where Marcus is sticking the gun in Pete's chest. Because that scene is actually in the movie. Somehow it doesn't look like Annie even has a gun in that scene, but I guess that was the point of cutting it out.

She does have a gun. Watch it again. You see it when she very first takes him outside. Then you never see it again. And in interviews, Chris talks about her bruising the hell out of his chest in that scene with the barrel (but I think he called it the butt) of the gun. Trust me, I've analyzed this thing to damn death. And I've listened to and watched all those interviews more than once.

Yeah, well, I guess Chris would remember who butted him in the chest to the point where he bruised.
Here's the screencaps from the movie:

The one thing I really LOVE in TI is that you all finally get to hear Chris's hearty laugh. Which had never been captured on film before, at least not since he's been all grown up and sexy. TeeJay and I were fortunate enough to hear it in person. Making him laugh has been one of my greatest pleasures in our work on this site. You can hear lots of laughter in our interviews. Sadly, Chris has played so many agonized characters, including this one, that we never get to see him cut loose and really laugh. Adam never did. But finally, onscreen, we get that glorious laughter.

Wow, that one would be perfect for a certain Butterflies scene (to me). But I think it's still a spoiler, so I won't say anthing.

You know, Deb, I think we can really milk these caps for Butterflies, at least for the chapters where they're not all happy. The one above would be perfect for Deep Black too.
And you're right about the lion shirt. Maybe we should ask Chris about that some time.

There's also a couple of things I wanted to say about the deleted scenes. My first reaction was: Boy, Chris's best work on the movie is all in the deleted scenes! And it really is. The role he plays in is incredibly dark and sad and depressing. And it all comes radiating off the screen when you watch him, he did amazing work there.
Chris is the only actor David Goyer mentioned by name during the commentaries of the deleted scenes. They mostly only talked about why certain scenes were taken out of the movie because of storyline improvement (some of which was BS if you ask me), but Chris is the one he singled out, talking about how certain moments felt really special to him the way Chris played them. I felt a certain amount of vindication for Chris upon hearing Goyer praising him. The fact remains that they sacrificed the integrity of the movie for making it a toned-down PG-13 version for all the teenies out there.

Yeah, I liked that too. If you look back at my comments after seeing the DVD, you find that I said much the same about the deleted scenes.
