This just in from Mara Jade:
I'm not gutless, here's my myspace page. I hope you all join my friends list.

Regarding Fanboys Status Update, yes they reshot a lot of scenes, mostly in Pasadena the past four days. I got to be on set and watch the filming of the George Lucas' office at Skywalker Ranch scene. I was asked not to post any pics till after the movie comes out, so I'm not going to, sorry.
I heard some "rumors" about the movie being pushed back to March, and I know they filmed some alternate endings/scenes, where Linus does not die. I surely hope they continue with the original script for this movie, otherwise the Fanboys look like a bunch of thieves, not compassionate friends only out to help their dying friend.
They shot the following scenes:
- George Lucas' Office
- Interrogation Room Scene
- Camping scene
- Theatre scene
- Java the Hutt scene
- did a bunch of insert takesWill Forte from Beerfest and SNL is one of the Guards at Skywalker Ranch in the George Lucas Office Scene. He did a great job. He ad libbed quite a few lines and I certainly hope they use at least one of his adlibs.
WTF?!? Linus HAS to die! They can't ruin that moment in the story. It's sooooo powerful.

Yeah, the movie wouldn't be what it's supposed to be if Linus doesn't die! That would be a total cop-out. Is that about the possible sequel that Kyle was once talking about?

Yeah, just what we need --- a set up for a sequel to a movie that's been delayed so long people are giving up hope that it'll ever see the light of day. Brilliant.

LOL. No kidding. I don't mind alternate endings on the DVD, but leave the original storyline intact.
Awesome picture by the way. I can't wait to see more. I agree, the guys look just a lil different, but I think Zoe looks pretty much the same . It's good to see them all back together again though. It's great to get some 'new' news!!

I would never want to see Chris's character die in a movie. :[

He has to die in this movie, Mel, or there's no movie. And you saw Freddy Vs Jason, right? Look at it this way, it's a great dramatic opportunity for him. As a serious actor, he craves that.

More from Mara Jade:
Yes, the guy who won the Fanboys contest was there on Sunday when I drove up with the costumes and props I was loaning them for the George Lucas'office scene. I didn't get to talk to him, but another person I was with did get to talk to him for a bit. He said he was a cool guy. They had him dressed in Jedi Robes. I believe he said they reshot part of the interior of the movie theatre so they could include him in that scene. Of course, this is information I got second-hand from my friend.
I was hoping to talk to Kyle about a few things, but neither he nor Ernie were on set. The reshoots were being done by a different director. I seriously hope there is something we can do to change their minds. I agree, Linus must die, it won't ruin the movie if he doesn't die, but in my opinion, it won't be nearly as good.
WTF? Kyle's not even directing this stuff? Why am I suddenly filled with trepidation? Alternate endings in which Linus doesn't die? Some other director? Is TWC watering this shit down for teeny boppers in the same way Disney screwed up The Invisible?

FANBOYS DE-BALLED?
Looks like there may be an intention to completely remove all mention of Linus being terminally ill. Looks like this movie just completely changed from a funny, touching film about friendship and fandom to a screwball comedy about Star Wars geekdom. I give up. We have tirelessly championed this movie for close to two years. If what I just heard from someone who was there the last few days is true, Kyle Newman is off the movie and Linus is healthy as a horse.
Pardon my French, but as my best friend Steph likes to say, FUCK ME RUNNING!

If all the rumors that we're hearing are true, the actual version they're gonna show in theaters is gonna suck. I think I'm gonna go and burn my Fanboys t-shirt and the calendar right along with it. I don't wanna do one iota to support this movie any longer. I feel really sorry for everyone who ever thought this movie would be a really cute, funny, emotional and moving story, including Chris and Kyle. This just pretty much ruined my year. Thank you, Weinstein.

Hang in there guys. There's only a small fraction of scenes being filmed now, as opposed to what has already been filmed. Remember how well this was received by the fans at Celebration Europe? They gave it a standing ovation. Fans in L.A. did the same for the 45 minutes that were shown there. The scenes I saw at C4 were soaked with mentions of Linus' health. They would have to butcher the entire film to change this storyline. There would be no Carrie Fisher scene. No Grand Canyon scene. The renewing of Linus and Sam's friendship would have to be altered. The party scene and the fight Sam and Linus have would have to be cut up....and many many more. I will admit, I am a little nervous, but the movie is already made. They're just adding in additional scenes, more than likely(Let's hope!) for the DVD. But then again, these are the Weinstein's we're talking about isn't it?
(Semi-spoiler question:)
Does anyone know if Chris was involved in the Theater shots? If he was, then that's proof that he doesn't die in the film.
I think the guy that I talked to on Myspace was the winner of the Ultimate Fan contest. I'm still waiting to hear back from him though. I'll let ya know if I hear anything new.

Well, here we go::
This is from Rob who is the guy who won the Ultimate Fan contest:
My visit to the set of FANBOYS (Spoiler-Free!)
First, a quick recap:
I made this video for "The Ultimate Fanboys Contest." I won the contest. I didn't hear from anyone for a month and a half until Friday November 30th when I got a call from Jennie (the second AD) @ 7:00pm telling me filming was starting tomorrow morning. That's cool...except that I live in Spokane WA and filming is happening in Los Angeles - about 1,500 miles away. Well I got a flight out the next morning and met up with my awesome friend Crystal.
Day One:
My first day of filming was on Sunday. I got put in a really cheap Jedi costume, which I guess is good since I was playing a Star Wars fan. Crystal and I had to sit around for a few hours with the other extras who tried to impress us with card tricks. At this point I was thinking this was super lame and not really worth the effort.
But soon Jennie met up with us and showed us around the set. She introduced us to many of the crew members who were really nice. We got to hang out on the set and watch the filming of a scene where all 5 of the stars are hanging out in the iconic Star Wars van. This was the first moment were I really felt like I was doing something worthy of my trip.
After this Crystal and I got to go into the room which was the set for a certain film director's office. Obi-Shawn was there (with his H-wing) supplying many toys, statues, and costumes for props.
We then introduced ourselves to all of the actors who were very cool. Unfortunately I accidentally washed my hands after touching Kristen Bell. After an awesome lunch we finally got to film the theater scene. Crystal and I ended up sitting directly behind Sam, Chris, and Dan. I even got an up-close view of Kristen in the Slave Leia outfit. Even though she had hot pants on underneath it will always be a treasured memory in my spank bank.
On one of the takes Dan looked back at me and said "This guys rubbing himself!", which I in fact was. I guess that is how I act excited for Episode 1, by rubbing my thigh vigorously.
Day Two
I only had to wait around for a couple of hours this time. Luckily I had my Nintendo DS and Lego Star Wars with me. I was in the Jedi costume again, this time standing on the sidewalk dueling with another fan.
After this scene Crystal showed up with Charlemagne the French Bull Dog and we hung out for the last 1st unit shot of the movie. Everyone on set was in love with Charlemagne so we had lots of fun. At one point the director was playing with him and not evening paying attention to the scene rolling.
It was interesting to see all of the different takes of this key scene. The character Linus storms away from Eric after an intense argument about the importance of Star Wars, which is essentially about them losing touch as friends. Linus (Chirs Marquette) kept on riffing on different Bossk trivia as an attempt to insult Eric (Sam Huntington). This film is definitely for the fans if there's Bossk references!
Filming wrapped and I felt like I had experienced a small piece of Star Wars history. I really believe that this movie is going to become as essential to Star Wars fandom as the actual Star Wars films themselves.
I had a great time, with only a few minor complaints. Kyle Newman wasn't there, Steven Brill (who is an awesome guy) directed all of the re-shoot stuff. Not a big deal, but Kyle is definitely a true Star Wars nerd and it would have been great to talk to him.
My main gripe is basically due to the fact that I am a poor bastard. Basically I paid 2 weeks of wages (underpaid youth counselor) to go down to Los Angels and volunteer to do something that other people were getting paid to do! If I was part of the Screen Actors Guild I would have actually been getting paid to be an extra. But nope, I got to pay for the privilege! I also had a bit of hope that I would get a better role than just being an extra. The contest was just to for a background part, but there were some rumblings that it might be a slightly larger role.
As a humble nerd I am honored to be a part of Fanboys. As a contest winner I felt a little ripped off. But overall I am ecstatic to have been a part of this and would definitely blow all of my Christmas money again if I had to do it over. I just wish I could have been wearing a Fetts shirt on screen. But hey, maybe there's a Fetts sticker on the van now...
Fanboys has been pushed back yet again. Expect it in the Spring or early summer hopefully. Also my video is supposed to be on the DVD. Maybe I can push for them to record a Fan commentary with me and others from the fan community (Force-Cast anyone?)
Being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited,
Rob

Wait a minute, this guy had to pay for the flights and travel expenses himself? Geez, that's ridiculous. Who the hell farted up the Weinsteins' brains? I really don't have anything good to say about the movie right now. If they really rewrite/reedit it so that Linus doesn't die, it's gonna be totally cheap. It won't be an hommage to Star Wars fans anymore, it'll totally ridicule this and any other sci-fi related fandom. Maybe after hearing what the Weinsteins were planning to do with it, Kyle wanted out. I certainly wouldn't blame him. It wouldn't be the movie anymore that Kyle (and the writers) wanted it to be, that they put all their heart in.
Of course I could totally be jumping to conclusions here, but I just can't read anything into this that sounds remotely positive.

Sean, all those scenes you mentioned that would have to be altered to eliminate Linus's illness ARE the ones that are being reshot, including the camping scene. I'm going to email you what Linda sent me in private. It's stunning. The operative word in all this is "inserts". They're shooting a lot of inserts. Of oh, say... any shot where Linus is feeling ill, or taking a pill, or even holding a pill bottle? That is the conclusion that I have most definitely jumped to. Let me know what you think when you read it.

Oh, no, no, no! They're ruining the whole movie!

Thank you for sending me that email Deb. I just read it and wanted to reply.
I just don't understand it.....
There's no logic at all to this decision. Let's pump more money into this movie, the version of the movie that we've already shown and people loved, and change the entire inspiration for the 'quest' . Let's cut out the emotional and touching scenes because they would only confuse the audiences who just wanna see a slap-stick comedy.
I honestly don't know what to say.
I can hold onto the belief that this change will only appear on the DVD, but the fact that the movie has been pushed back AGAIN can only mean that the theatrical release is being heavily edited and these changes are taking place.
C'mon, you gotta have the Carrie Fisher scene in there. Linus kissing Carrie is too cool to cut out.
I'm curious what will happen at Skywalker Ranch now? In the original story, Linus and only Linus gets to watch Episode I, because of his illness, while the rest of the group waited outside--Now what's gonna happen? Are we going to see a film where they all make it to Skywalker Ranch and then get turned away, having to wait to see the movie in the theaters like everyone else did. What a lame 'climax' to the film.
The omission of another supporting actor is pretty annoying too.
Oh, and another reason I am kinda pissed: I and several other friends(Ken, Ken's wife, Lor,etc) were sitting behind the Fanboys in the theater scene. Now it's been re-shot with a totally different crowd behind them.

I thought of something today that I hope might be the case for Linus being in the theater scene. Maybe this whole "Linus doesn't die thing is just as much of an inference by people who only know a little of what's really going on? Much like the conclusion I jumped to that he might not even be sick anymore. Maybe the inserts are just something to go with the new sound FX.
Because they reportedly now have GL's blessing to make fun of Ep I, some have speculated that they now have GL's blessing to make fun of Ep I. What if Linus appears in the theater scene in and Obi-Wan post-death state? Maybe tries to warn the others that it's not that great, maybe tries to save them from some aggravation or other telling them it's not worth all the hype or something? Or maybe he just appears inside to help make fun of Jar-Jar. Because I also read somewhere in passing that Jar-Jar makes a "cameo", but in an unexpected way. I can see Linus sitting there with the others, like imitating his stupid voice or something, mocking him. Big laugh, roll credits. I need to send you another email, Sean, one that gives me hope...
I'm trying not to give up here. We sent out a feeler today and hope this whole blasting thing gets debunked.

The Jar-Jar cameo was already in the first version of the movie. It has to do with Seth Rogen as the pimp. Go back to the hotel scene and look at the photos we have, Deb. You'll see Jar-Jar if you take a close look. That's what his cameo is about. or at least that's what it was about when people talked about it before. I don't know what to think. You may be right, this might all be way more innocent than we think. I pray to God that it is!

Well, THAT would be funny indeed, I guess. So there is still a little hope that they are not going to ruin the entire movie.

Just a little snippet of info.
One of the guys in our SW group, James, who played a Trekkie in the Casino scene and wears the Chewbacca costume in the theater scene, said that Triggerstreet asked to borrow the Chewbacca costume last week. He said that Chris will be wearing it in a scene that was shot last week.
