From the Telegraph:
Overdose may not have killed Heath Ledger
By Catherine Elsworth in Los Angeles
Last Updated: 2:14am GMT 28/01/2008Heath Ledger may have died from natural causes, not a drug overdose, because the amount of drugs in his system was too low to have killed him, it has been reported.
TMZ, the celebrity website that broke the news of the actor's death last Tuesday, quoted sources "intimately connected with the investigation" saying that the 28-year-old may have died from a heart attack.
Sources claim that the level of drugs in Heath Ledger's system was too low to cause his death"It's now appearing that the level of toxicity (from medication) in Ledger's system was low enough that it may not have caused his death. These sources say Heath's heart stopped," the website reported.
Initial tests on the body of the star of Brokeback Mountain proved inconclusive, but Ledger's family has insisted that he would not have taken his own life.
The actress Naomi Watts, Ledger's former girlfriend, was reported to have visited the Los Angeles mortuary where his body was being kept. She was also said to have joined Ledger's family and friends in a private memorial ceremony.
His body was expected to be flown to Australia today, where it was thought that a funeral would be held in Perth, his home city.
advertisementIn an article published yesterday, Sarah Lyall, who conducted the last interview with the actor in November, said Ledger "did not seem depressed, or suicidal or whacked out from drugs" when they met.
"What he seemed was exhausted," Lyall told the Observer. "It looked to me like the sort of fatigue you get not from being tired of life, but from being too full of it - too full of plans, too full of self-analysis, too full of noisy thoughts that won't stay quiet."
Daniel Day-Lewis, the British actor, interrupted Oprah Winfrey on her celebrity talk show to pay tribute to Ledger.
Fighting back tears, the 50-year-old Oscar hopeful said he had "marvelled" at Ledger's work. At the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, Robert Redford, the veteran actor, talked about the impact of Ledger's death, comparing it to the shock caused by the 1981 assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan.
"That's too young to check out. It was a shock," Redford said.
He described Ledger as "one of those actors who was very, very special because he played so many different kinds of roles".

Daniel Day Lewis also spoke about him on the SAG awards last night. He almost cried. Cleary, he really did admire Heath.

And this one is from The Sunday Herald:
Drug used by Ledger linked to six deaths in UK
By Judith Duffy, Health Correspondent
Sleeping pills blamed for 200 adverse reactionsACOMMONLY PRESCRIBED sleeping drug which actor Heath Ledger had admitted taking has been linked to six deaths in the UK.
Figures obtained by the Sunday Herald have revealed that six fatal suspected adverse drug reactions to zolpidem have been reported to Britain's medicines watchdog since 2001.
Almost 200 further incidents of adverse reactions, ranging from psychiatric and cardiac disorders to "injuries" and eye disorders have also been reported to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
advertisementLedger was found dead by his housekeeper at his New York apartment last Tuesday. Pills were found near his body and Ledger recently admitted taking the prescription drug Ambien - the trade name of zolpidem in America - to combat insomnia.
Results of a postmortem examination last week on the 28-year-old actor, who had won acclaim in films such as Brokeback Mountain, are inconclusive, but there has been speculation he died from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills.
This prompted movie star Jack Nicholson to say the tragedy could be a warning about the dangers of certain sleeping pills. Nicholson said he had taken Ambien and it had serious side effects.
During a promotional visit to London for his latest film he said: "I warn people about Ambien. I almost drove off a cliff once. I don't take sleeping pills but somebody said, take this, it's mild'.
"I got a call in the middle of the night, kind of an emergency, and I almost drove off a cliff 50 yards from my house. I live up in the mountains in Aspen. It's something to warn people about."
The figures from the MHRA show the incidents recorded under its "yellow card" scheme, which doctors use to alert the agency to patients suffering side-effects to a drug. Health professionals and patients report reactions on a voluntary basis - companies are legally obliged to do so - and it is designed to act as an early warning system to flag up any previously unrecognised problems.
A total of 197 suspected adverse drug reactions have been reported to date in connection with zolpidem - which is marketed as Stilnoct in the UK - the majority of which were categorised as psychiatric disorders.
Six cases of deaths linked to a suspected adverse reaction to the drug were also recorded - three involving psychiatric disorders, with the rest categorised as general disorders, injuries and vascular disorders.
Last year research by Australia's Federal Health Department linked zolpidem to a series of incidents of strange behaviour, including a woman who painted her front door while still asleep.
Problems involving zolpidem have emerged in America, where some people have been injured by cars driven by people under the influence of the drug.
A spokesman for the MHRA said the safety of zolpidem has been "carefully monitored" and product information had been updated to include warnings of psychiatric adverse effects.
A spokesman for Sanofi Aventis, which makes Stilnoct, said it could not comment on the MHRA figures, but said when taken as prescribed, the drug was "generally well tolerated".

I was going through some old tapes and dubbing them over to DVD and I came across an old Access Hollywood preview of Summer movies.
They had a segment about A Knight's Tale and they showed some clips of the film and the set in Prague. They showed some footage of Heath filming and interview snippets with him. He talked about using music and how that helped them to be not be historically accurate as well as learning a new skill - jousting.

I loved that movie. Didn't think I would. Seemed like such a weird idea. But the dance scene to David Bowie's Golden Years captured my imagination, so Dave and I took a chance and saw it in the theater. It was awesome! I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out. It's just rollicking good fun! Have you seen it, Illinois?

You know, I feel the same way. The idea didn't appeal to me that much. And then I watched it and loved it. Everyone in it was great. I have it on VHS somewhere, I think.

And naked. (Or was that another movie? I have this fleeting memory that he ran around naked in this one at some point.)

He's naked when we first meet him. Quite a spectacular intro. And he's definitely the best thing in the movie.

Yeah, I saw the movie a while back when it played on FOX and one of the few scenes I remember was seeing his butt, haha. Wait, FOX actually showed nudity? That or I saw it on tape; don't remember.

Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."

So... according to a video of Heath at a drug party, he says he's "been smoking five joints a day for 20 years". This was two years ago, when he was 26. So he's been smoking pot since he was six? Damn, them Aussie's get started early

Carol and I had the same discussion. I think he was trying to sound cool in front of the other party-goers. Clearly that was bullpuckey.
And I really wish that exploitative piece of trash wasn't linked here. Anyone else agree with me or am I on my own?

It's not really linked to anywhere, is it? I'll delete the post where I brought it up, if you want but I didn't link to anything.

No, it wasn't you who linked the video. It was Melody.
Stars Fight To Keep Ledger Drug Video Off TV
Sarah Jessica Parker, Josh Brolin and Natalie Portman were among the stars who bombarded the producers of news show Entertainment Tonight and urged them to drop a damning Heath Ledger video. The footage, taken at a Hollywood party in 2006, reportedly features the late actor drinking and taking drugs. The news show aired teaser footage during its Wednesday night broadcast and producers planned to show the full tape on Thursday. But angry phone calls from the stars and harsh criticism from Ledger's publicists made them think again - and eventually axe the news item. In one angry open letter, Ledger's representative Mara Buxbaum wrote, "This is not journalism, it is sensationalism. It is a shameful exploitation of the lowest kind."

I say let's join the fight!
Hey, someone told me that somewhere on the internet was an article that said Ledger could have died of natural causes too. That's called SADS, I think. (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome or something like that). Did you hear about that? I personally don't believe the drug story. I am just sorry for his family. Media can be cruel.

Mel didn't link to it either. The video she linked to is a tribute to Heath... unless she linked to another video that I missed completely.

Well, to me it sounded like the link would go to that video. But I didn't click the link so I didn't know for sure.

I didn't click the link either, but you guys were talking about it right after the link Mel posted. If that's something different, we're cool.
