Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

Most of you are too young to remember them, but God, The Smithereens were such a great band.  So was Big Country.  And The Railway Children.  And X.  I'm taking a tour through the music of my youth courtesy of YouTube.  Sigh...

I've noticed something about these bands too.  They all have heavy bass and a full-throated sound.  I guess that must be my thing.  :clueless:

Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

There is a radio station in Houston that plays all 80s music.  My car radio spends a lot of time on that station.  The "oldies" station now just plays 70s, 80s, and 90s.  The sixties are now too old for the oldies station.  Sigh.

There is a lyric in the Bowling for Soup song "1985" that goes, "When did Motley Crue become classic rock?"  That hits me right between the eyes.

Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

Does anyone by any chance have the new 3 Doors Down song "Citizen/Soldier"? Their MySpace and official site says it's available on iTunes, but apparently only on the US version of iTunes. Rob tried to download it for me and he said it's not on the German iTunes. Suck suck suck. I wanna hear it! My guess is that it's not been released here yet, I haven't heard any radio station play it either.

Ah well, I found the song as a hi-res video file and extracted the audio from it. That works for me. smile Will buy the new album when it comes out in May anyway.

Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

Whahooo, I just came back from a Culcha Candela concert. Don't suppose many of you know them, Anne and Zwanchen probably do. Deb, it's the "weird reggae crap" I had on my MP3 player. wink And it was GREAT. The guys really know how to entertain. I sang and danced a lot. Well, as much as you can dance with a foot of space in each direction. It was more like swaying. I can't dance anyway.

What I'm trying to say is: I had a wonderful time! Lots of fun. Though my ears are kinda stupid now. We did have earplugs but we didn't use them because it wasn't that loud. And now I'm off to bed because I'm beat. (Pun intended.)

I can't believe we're getting two Chris movies on DVD three weeks apart.  That's just so amazing and wonderful.

Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

How old are you when you finish high school? 17? We have a slightly different school system. You either finish after 10th grade (when you're 16-ish) or you finish after 13th grade (at 19-ish), which is what I did. You can also finish after 12th grade, but not a lot of people do that.

Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

I finished in 12th grade, when I was 18.  Which I think is what most people do, 12th grade aged 17, 18 or 19.  But one of my friends from a different state was a grade ahead of me and two years younger hmm

Re: "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread

I graduated high school when I was 17 years old as well, but it's only because my birthday is late ;P

And congrats, Mel! I wish I would be able to call myself a "senior" after May. I'll be three units away, haha. I might take Chemistry for summer school, but it's only one unit, so I'd still be two units away lol I'm still debating if I should study abroad in England and Scotland for the Fine Arts capstone, which is three units.

Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."

Wow, if you have a chance to study in England or Scotland, why wouldn't you?  That'd be sweet!
