Re: Post your recent DVD purchases

Yeah, but I"ve kind of got my eye on that Paul Lynde Halloween Special.  Guest starring: Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch of the West) & Kiss.  I'll bet that thing out-kitsches that old Bing Crosby Christmas Special guest-starring David Bowie.  Everyone should check that one out if they ever get a chance.  Watching Bing and Bowie (in full Ziggy Stardust drag) singing a duet of "Little Drummer Boy".  Get your hankie!;)

You're right.  That would be really fun!  Of course I've seen the Bing & Bowie thing.  It's really quite surreal.

Re: Post your recent DVD purchases

And it's only seven bucks!  I think I might have to do it!

Music clearance issues delayed a DVD release of WKRP in Cincinnati for YEARS.  I really don't understand that.  It seems like Canned Heat, Procol Harem, Three Dog Night, and even Mott the Hoople (before Juno, at least) should've appreciated a plug at this stage in their careers.

So far it's quite exciting, I do like it. But I've only played for twenty minutes or so yesterday. I don't usually play a lot of games, so to someone who does often, this one might be kinda boring. I think the consensus among gamers online is that it's terrible. Maybe it is when you're used to high-quality 3-D ego shooters and stuff, but I'm not into that kind of thing at all. You're a survivor of the plane crash and the game starts as you find yourself lying in the jungle by yourself. Because of the crash you've got amnesia and don't know who you are or why you were on the plane. The game mainly consists (I think) of you exploring the island and talking to people to find out who you are, but in a more exciting way than I'm describing. smile And I paid only about 25 EUR for it, I wouldn't have bought it if it had been more than that.

However, and this is what I find quite shocking, you can only play it if you have a state-of-the-art, fairly recently bought computer. I mean, I bought mine in January, and already it's barely meeting the minimum system requirements. Do they expect all the people interested in the game buying a new computer just to play it?

Not the newest DVD purchase, but today I bought the book Just Like Heaven is based on. Normally I like to read the book first and since I have the movie on DVD I thought I should read the book too.

There's this really cheap video rental place 3 min away from where I live. Right now they have a used dvd sale for new and old movie releases. It's pretty sweet.

That is sweet! I usually just order online because it's cheapest, even with S&H. I tend to just order things online in general because I'm lazy like that ;/

I've been wishing Mork & Mindy was on Nick At Night or TV Land or something lately.

Re: Post your recent DVD purchases

Jacen talked me into getting him 101 Dalmatians, and a couple of Backyardigans DVDs. big_smile
I also picked up The Office(USA) Season 2, The Simpsons Season 10, and a bunch of UFC DVDs since I'm a sucka for MMA.
Oh, and I finished off Dexter Season one and I LOVED IT!!! Can't wait to see Season two!

Re: Post your recent DVD purchases

I got the steelbook edition of I am Legend from Best Buy.

I would have gotten Southland Tales as well, but BB didn't even have it and Circuit City was already sold out. Looks like I'll have to buy it from amazon.com.

So I got the Kurt Russell flick Breakdown for $3.99 from CC.

Re: Post your recent DVD purchases

I bought Life On Mars Season 2 yesterday. It's a British cop show and it was just 24 € from a British seller on amazon. So I bought it because the normal price from amazon is something around 60€. I'm so happy because I only spend around 50€ for both seasons. On Amazon I would have to pay 120€ - way too much.

Re: Post your recent DVD purchases

Does anyone know why there's two versions of I Am Legend?  Was there some kind of controversy?  Like with Fanboys?

I think they made a less expensive stripped-down version and then another with an extra disk and lots of extras, commentaries, etc.

Actually no, the 2 disc set only has a few digital comics and some other things which can only be seen via the internet. The 2nd disc is just the other version.

I've been watching a few episodes of the UFO series I recently bought. I really thought it was going to be along the lines of Gerry Andersons other kiddie show The Thunderbirds - but it isn't really like that. It's much more adult in nature. Of course some things are really dated, such as the sexism and just about everyone smokes in the series. Plus the fx are obviously bad by todays standards. I have read some things online that compares it to the new series 'Torchwood', which I haven't seen or heard of before.

For a blind buy I actually like the show. Once I got into it I easily overlooked the FX and got into the storyline.
