Re: Fanboys

We'd probably need a heavy-duty wheel-barrow.  And maybe a tow truck.

But he's not worth all the trouble to plan a big ruse like we did with Chris and his hair gel issues.

Re: Fanboys

Which version?  You're kidding, right?  You know which version.  The score guy said they were working on the no-plot version and that he'd never seen the real movie.  This has been over for weeks now.  We lost.  The real Fanboys is gone.  Or maybe we'll see it on DVD.

Okay, but how does this work? He only sells the crap version and keeps the rights for the original version? How will we get two versions on DVD if only one is being sold? Or is the DVD release independent of the Cannes sale and this is only about theatrical release?

I can't say I care very much since by now to me it doesn't really matter if the movies comes to theaters or not and I don't really see how that could be the best thing to happen to the movie. All I want is the DVD with the original version. Which they won't be selling at Cannes. Maybe I don't get it, but I can't seem to see this as something to get excited about.

Re: Fanboys

I was being sarcastic.  Getting the movie AWAY from Harvey would be the best thing that ever happened to it.  I don't really know what the purpose of this marketplace is.  Whether he'll be trying to sell it for foreign distribution or US (maybe worldwide?).  Nothing he's done has made any sense, so why should this be any different?  You're right about one thing though, if he does sell the movie to someone else, outright, the real version will probably never see the light of day.  And that means that Kyle and Ernie pretty much got screwed without a reach-around.

And I'd hate that more than anything. Not sure I'd even buy the DVD in that case. I'll probably find someone who will make me a copy. Selling the movie would have been the best thing to happen before they started messing with the storyline.

Re: Fanboys

Yeah, 11% of ZERO...

Comedy Central nabs Weinstein trio
Pact includes 'Superhero Movie,' Fanboys'

By JOHN DEMPSEY

Spoof 'Superhero Movie' will become available to Comedy Central starting in September 2010.

"Superhero Movie" is blasting its way onto Comedy Central, which has agreed to pay the Weinstein Co. $2.7 million for cable rights to the picture as part of a deal that also includes pre-buys of two unreleased titles: "Fanboys" and "The Promotion."

Comedy Central will end up paying TWC about 11% of the final domestic box office of "Fanboys" and "The Promotion."

Dave Bernath, senior VP of programming for the net, said pre-buys are unusual for Comedy Central but locking up a movie before it opens in theaters "is becoming a trend among cable networks, which are aggressively going after big pictures."

Comedy Central tries to keep as many as 300 movies in its inventory, Bernath said, to fill the slots for the two pictures it schedules every weekday afternoon and the day/night wall-to-wall lineup of movies on Saturday and Sunday.

When it buys a cable premiere of a picture like "Superhero Movie," it will promote it heavily, playing it multiple times during the first weekend. The network also buys shared-window deals of big hits like "Wedding Crashers" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," which it gets after the movies have premiered on a bigger network such as TNT, USA or FX.

The Weinstein Co. doesn't have a pay-TV output deal, but the company has included in the contract a clause allowing it to sell "Superhero Movie," "Fanboys" and "The Promotion" in the pay window before the movies become available to Comedy Central. Weinstein regularly sells movies to both Showtime and Starz.

Comedy Central, which has a four-year license term, has agreed to allow Weinstein to carve out a window within that term for another cable network to buy some runs of one or more of the movies.

"Superhero Movie" is just wrapping up its theatrical run in the U.S., having grossed $25.2 million. Weinstein's Third Rail Releasing will put "The Promotion," from Dimension Films, into multiplexes June 6. In "The Promotion," directed by Steve Conrad, John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott play Chicago supermarket clerks competing for a manager's job.

There's no release date yet on "Fanboys," directed by Kyle Newman, which deals with a group of young people who trek cross country in 1998 to sneak into George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch to steal a print of "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" before the movie's release.

Comedy Central gets "Superhero Movie" in September 2010, "Fanboys" in December 2010 and "Promotion" in March 2011.

Well, at elast we have a CABLE release date.  roll

Okay, so who has a DVD recorder? You know, just in case they never release the DVD. Because I'm guessing the Cable deal won't apply to anything outside of the US.

Re: Fanboys

Some good news perhaps???

Friend of TheForce.net & director of Fanboys Kyle Newman is highlighted in a New York Times article online. Kyle was tapped by Microsoft to write and direct The Cube, a short film being used in a promotional contest for Microsoft. Here's a quick bite....

"The contest, which is to begin on Thursday, is called the Ultimate Video Relay and has its own Web site (ultimatevideorelay.com), a spinoff of the Windows Vista Ultimate Web site (ultimatepc.com). The relay reference comes from the invitation to computer users to complete a story titled "The Cube" in several stages. The tale, a humorous cross between "The Matrix" and "The Office" (or "Office Space") begins with a six-minute clip that can be watched on the relay Web site. The clip is directed by Kyle Newman, the director of "Fanboys," a coming movie about "Star Wars" aficionados."

Read the full report and check the video right here!

**NOTE: There is also a Fanboys update on page two where Kyle is quoted as being back in the editing room for the FINAL cut of Fanboys.

"Mr. Newman, in a telephone interview, had encouraging news for the "Fanboys" fans. "I have been brought back into the editing room to work on a final version," he said, adding: "All the key people are back. That's all good."

Re: Fanboys

From the way he says 'Final Version", it makes me think that definite changes are being made since both of the previous versions were complete.(At least to the point where they could be screen tested) The fact that Kyle is back working on it makes me very happy and I trust that he'll do his best to make it as faithful to the original version as he can. <crosses fingers, says a prayer, knocks on wood, etc!!>

Re: Fanboys

I found the NY Times article that theforce.net linked to, but their link wasn't working. It actually also says this:

Act I of "The Cube" features an actor, Sam Huntington, who is also a star of "Fanboys," as well as the model Jaime King, who is also Mrs. Kyle Newman. Mr. Goffe even makes a cameo appearance in the clip, as a character named Barry Turtleneck.

"Fanboys" has attracted attention in Hollywood because its intended distributor, the Weinstein Company, is embroiled in a dispute with the filmmakers over which version to release. There has been a large effort online among young filmgoers to persuade Weinstein to release the filmmakers' preferred version.

Mr. Newman, in a telephone interview, had encouraging news for the "Fanboys" fans. "I have been brought back into the editing room to work on a final version," he said, adding: "All the key people are back. That's all good."

Re: Fanboys

Someone just posted this on IMDb:

Sorry to keep this vague, but I have it on pretty darned good authority that the Weinsteins finally caved and Fanboys will be released in its original state, hopefully sometime this year. Can anyone verify?

Man, if that were true...... It sounds too good to be true, but after what Kyle said in that interview recently, it all sounds pretty darn cool. Man, I hope so!!! smile

Re: Fanboys

I think it's safe to say at this point that it'll be released in something close to it's original state.  As close as we're ever gonna get.  Can we all just dance a little virtual jig now and yell WE WON!
