I think I'm somehow transitioning a little where my taste in music is concerned. I used to love Nickelback and 3 Doors Down and a few other artists that I own a lot of CDs of. But a lot of these guys' most recent albums just haven't managed to capture me at all. I liked the new 3DD album at the first listen, but now I just think it's really bland. There's maybe two songs on it that I like enough not to fast forward them when the album plays on my MP3 player or in the car. Same with Alanis Morissette or the band I can't name because Deb will hit me. Panic At The Disco as well. I thought their first album was great. Couldn't stop listening to it. Their second album wasn't at all my thing. Linkin Park too. I didn't hate their new album, but it's so different from what they've done before. It didn't sound like the Linkin Park I knew anymore. Change can be good, and maybe there's people out there who like the new style better. I don't.
So I don't know if the quality of these bands' performances has lessened of if it's just me. Probably the latter. And that scares me a little because as a kid I swore I'd never be like those people who would only listen to really old-fashioned stuff and would say that what we liked as kids was just noise or too loud or too fast or too modern. But I guess by the time I'm 60, I'm gonna be one of those people listening to German pseudo folk music and pop songs from my youth.
But it is a good sign that I still listen to the radio station in my area that is considered the "young" channel.

Anyone remember Vertical Horizon? I've been waiting for years for them to come up with something new, and apparently they've been "silent" for so long because their record label dropped them. Looks like they found a new label and a new album will be available before long. They only just added a brand new song on their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/verticalhorizon
And I actually really like the song (All Is Said And Done). So maybe this will be one new album of a band I used to love that I'll actually like. I sure hope so. No idea when it's supposed to come out, nothing's been announced so far (that I know of). The new album will be called Burning The Days.

Awesome. Linkin Park are bringing out a live CD/DVD in November. Comes out Nov 21 in Germany. Another album to look forward to. Third Eye Blind are also releasing a new album in 2009. Been waiting for them and Vertical Horizon to come out with something new for years.

I hope the new Nickelback album (Dark Horse) is gonna be better than the first single off of it. Because I can't say I like it much...
At amazon.de you can listen to the first 20 seconds of every song of the new album. And this one is definitely not a buyer. Wow. Didn't think I'd dislike it this much. I'll probably find someone who ends up buying it, and then...

I'll listen to it later. It's kind of strange at the moment, I noticed that I don't like the new stuff of so many singers and bands I used to like so much.

What's your first thought when you buy a Nickelback Live DVD and on the cover there's an M warning (M for Mature Audiences) that says Coarse language and some nudity? You think, Awesome, Chad Kroeger nekkid!!! Right?
Well, far wrong. You see a few women in the audience with naked boobies. Uh... Thank you. Now please put on some clothes. But, haha, I just read on amazon.com that for the US version, they covered the nekkid boobs with floating black bars and beeped out Chad's f-bombs. I guess I got lucky that they sent me the uncensored Australian version.
What I find slightly strange is that the concert was live at Sturgis in 2006. The DVD came out in 2008. Why would they release a concert on DVD that's two years old when the guys just finished another tour in 2008? I still loved the concert, of course. Though somehow I got the feeling that there were a lot of people there who didn't really come to see Nickelback. An awful lot of people in the audience just stood there and looked on. Only few people they showed sang along to the lyrics. Now, maybe that's normal for a Nickelback concert. ??? I wouldn't know, I've never been to one. But I know that if I went, I would try to be somewhere near the front, singing along (more like screaming along) with every song.
Also, the concert's awfully short, just a little over 60 minutes. The encore was only one song. Hello?! You can do better, Nickelback!

I'm obsessed with Joe's Garage. I finally got the complete Zappa CD on Monday and I can't stop listening to it. The songs are wedged into my head. I wanna study the lyrics, I just haven't had a chance. Not that they're all that complex. I just don't want to miss any jokes.
My favorite song by far is Crew Slut. After that, I love Watermelon In Easter Hay most. The title song is also great and Dong Work For Yuda is awesome and gets stuck in my head every time I hear it. For TeeJay and Anne, for reference, Crew Slut is the cool song Ben Thomas sings to Becky, while playing guitar when she first runs off to be a groupie. Watermelon In Easter Hay is the hypnotic instrumental they play when they turn off all the lights. And Dong Work is the super-funky song the play when Joe goes to prison and they're threatening him with rape. The chorus is this deep-voiced refrain of "John's got a sausage, yeah, man..."
The great thing is that the Open Fist gang and the musicians did such a great job recreating Zappa's original album, more or less exactly, that you can remember the show very well when you listen to the CD. It's so much fun.
Thank you TeeJay for making sure I got this for Christmas!

Thanks to Grey's Anatomy I just discovered Lenka! The Song I liked was featured in an episode I just watched. I love that song and also listened to some other songs of her album. I might buy it soon, I really like her voice.

Been listening to some great post-Beatles stuff by the members of the band. And I forgot how much this GREAT John Lennon song shreds me.... "I'm Losing You". All but the last verse fit A/J post-break-up. It beautiful, dark, heartfelt and just wonderful. Love the guitar part. Wish I could make a video, dammit.

You can. You should have the Windows MovieMaker pre-installed on your machine. You can import AVI files into it (like the TV episode I burned for you) and then recut them. It's not that hard, once you get the hang of it, but I always find it's really tedious work to cut together things from whole episodes. You can also import the WMV files that we have on the website, then at least you'd have everything boiled down to the J/A scenes. Downside is that the quality of the end product won't be as good.
Meaning if you really wanted to, you could make a fanvid yourself without even having to install new software.

Yeah, I'll get right on that. I should have it finished in, oh, about a hundred years. I can't even figure out how to make a wallpaper. I'd never figure out how to make a video on my own.

No, not heard of it before. I'm guessing YouTube will find a way to block this guy's software at some point, sounds like there's copyright issues and all that stuff that the big companies will dig their claws into.
One more thing that makes this not all that appealing to me is that almost all music videos I've come across on YouTube aren't even near CD quality. I personally don't have any interest in downloading and installing this thing if it'll play the songs in the quality that most YouTube vids are. It's a cool idea and all, but I'd rather stick to CDs and MP3s since I was my music as pristine as I can get it.

Um, well, some of us like very obscure music --- created before CDs even existed --- so we don't always have a choice about the quality. There are times when I'm just thrilled to even be able to find a certain song or video in ANY quality. Example: King Crimson playing Elephant Talk on the TV show Fridays. This clip is from 1981 and I was so shocked that someone had actually taped it and put it on YouTube that I actually cried when I found it watched it. It was the first time I ever saw/heard Adrian Belew and I never thought I'd ever get to see that performance again. So yeah, even though the quality is crap, it's something that I treasure. My playlists are full of things like that, very rare things. I would love a way to organize them into a "jukebox" I could listen to whenever I wanted.
The main problem with just using the YouTube playlist as a jukebox is that when a clip is removed, it doesn't skip to the next clip, it just stops. And a bunch of the stuff I had saved has been removed. I need to organize my Playlist and get rid of that stuff, but that won't stop them from deleting more clips and messing up my jukebox again. They way I understand this program is that it'll keep that clip in your saved file on your machine, even after YouTube has removed it. THAT'S very cool.
