I was doing a google search for "Alpha Dog Deluxe Edition" and came across this one.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Is there anyway we can find out if it has any special features?  Some of us have region free DVD players...

Very interesting.  Probably not worth a buy until someone can preview it.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

If it's an Italian DVD, I wouldn't need a region-free DVD player. Italy is RC 2 like the rest of Europe. But if you wanted to watch it in the US, you'd have to convert the DVD not only to RC 1 (or 0), but also to NTSC frame rate. Most US TVs can't handle PAL frame rate...

I'm guessing the featurette is the same one that's on the US DVD. Not sure about the interviews, but I kinda doubt it's something really cool. Chris would most probably not be a part of them.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

As far as I know, there's only one US DVD version of Alpha Dog available, and the extras on it are pretty pitiful. A 10-minute Making Of (which isn't all that great), a Witness Timeline (text/pictures only) and, I think, trailers for other movies. The sad thing is that Nick Cassavetes has so much really cool material that he'd love to put on a special edition DVD, but Universal didn't care about it and decided to bring out the bland, barebone DVD only.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Actually there is 3 versions. But all with the same basic features.
Standard DVD: Full Screen
Standard DVD: Widescreen
HD DVD

There is always a chance that Universal could do an "Extended Edition" sometime in the future. Universal recently announced an Extended Edition of Waterworld. Sadly the only extra appears to be the trailer.

I think the difference between an Extended Edition and a Director's Cut is that only the Director's Cut is done by the director, whereas the Extended Edition has no input from the director.

So if Universal ever releases a better edition of AD on DVD, I would rather have either a Director's Cut, Special Edition or a Deluxe Edition which would/should have input from the director with lots of extras. I don't think I would really care much for an Extended Edition with zero input from the director and/or really lousy extras.

I do wonder if Universal is waiting for the trial to be completely done before releasing any sort of better edition. Perhaps either they are fearful of lawsuits from JJH or want to include a very complete featurette on the real life case and can't do that until the trial is over.

Now of course, with how long this trial is taking just to begin I think if that's what they're waiting on we could be waiting years. And by that time, it may not even be on dvd. Perhaps either Blu-Ray or some sort of new format.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Me too, Mel.  I really wanna see the scene on the hill where Elvis forces Keith to dig the grave.  It's definitely in the deleted scenes that Big Nick has and would love to use on a Special "420" Edition.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

I was looking at the cast on IMDB and they list 2 uncredited actors.

1. Matthew Borlenghi - role = John Kirschner
2. Mario Ardila Jr. - role = Santa Fe Kid

Here are 2 general pics of them

1, Matthew
20080618002749859.jpg

2. Mario
can't find a good one.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone can actually locate them in the film?

If you can, could you please give an exact time when they appear on screen. Such as 1:32:05 (1 hour, 32 minutes, 5 seconds mark).

Thanks.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Today I went to Stuttgart to meet up with a friend and we came across some kind of garage sale, where I found the German Alpha Dog DVD for just 6 Euro. I had only 5 Euro, so I asked the guy who sold it if he would give it to me for 5 bucks, and he did. I think 5 Euro (which is $7.86) was okay for the German version.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

This was such a good movie. I saw it last spring somewhere. I think it was someone else's DVD. Lately I've been graving to see it again and I am turtured for not finding it anywhere. I'm just about to bang my head against the wall. You ever wanna see some movie that much? :embarrassed:

Wouldn't it be great if someone made a collage of Chris' scenes? I don't think I've seen one. And I don't mean just pictures, I want the whole deal: sex, drugs and videotape! lol

We have most of Chris's scene as vidcaps on the site, Maria. Not sure if that's what you mean by collage of Chris's scenes. It's in the Media - Vidcaps section.

Yeah, right, I forgot. :embarrassed: I've got the memory of a labrat... Just the one that gets lost in the mace and dies of hunger.
I was just surfing the youtube and thoughted it would be nice to see all of Chris' scenes in a same video. Dumb idea. :embarrassed:

Court lets prosecutor remain on 'Alpha Dog' case
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 10/20/2008 07:19:23 AM PDT

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court is allowing a prosecutor who helped in the making of the movie "Alpha Dog" to remain on the death penalty case on which the film is based.

The justices, in an order Monday, denied an appeal from Jesse James Hollywood, who prosecutors say masterminded a plot to kidnap and murder 15-year-old Nicholas Markowitz. He was killed in 2000 because his older half brother owed Hollywood money, prosecutors say.

A California appeals court had removed Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney Ron Zonen from the case after he turned over probation reports, police files and other sensitive materials to director Nick Cassavetes. "Alpha Dog," a fictionalized account of the killing of a Southern California teen starring Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone and Justin Timberlake, was released last year.

Zonen said in court documents that he helped Cassavetes with "Alpha Dog" to help publicize the hunt for Hollywood, who was captured in 2005 in Brazil after spending nearly five years on the lam.

The state Supreme Court said Zonen could participate.

The case is Hollywood v. California, 08-181.

Think Blatt will acquiesce to this and let the trial begin?  Somehow I doubt it,

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

According to this it is from the U.S. Supreme Court, so I don't see anyway he could appeal it. Of course he could try something new to try and delay the start of the trial.

http://ipcenter.bna.com/pic2/ip.nsf/id/ … enDocument

The case of Hollywood v. Superior Court of Santa Barbara County, 182 P.3d 590 (Cal. 2008), considered the question: "Does a prosecutor's consulting with the makers of a major motion picture that is based on a criminal defendant's story create a conflict sufficient to require recusal of the prosecutor when the defendant is finally brought to trial?" The California Court of Appeal decided that the prosecutor crossed the line in his zeal to apprehend Jesse James Hollywood--a fugitive accused of the kidnapping and murder of a 15-year-old boy--when he gave case files to a screenwriter/director and served as consultant during the making of a film about the murder. The state supreme court did not disagree, but nevertheless reversed, finding that the court of appeal had not appropriately deferred to the trial court's holding that there was no "disqualifying conflict" or proof that a fair trial was unlikely. Hollywood seeks review in Hollywood v. California, U.S., No. 08-181, 8/11/08.
