FWIW, Michael's American Crime went straight to cable and did GANGBUSTERS. MILLIONS more saw it than would have in theaters. The same will be happening with American Son (although I don't think it will come close to the success of Crime).

It's really a win/win for both the distributor and cable company, especially if both have the same owner (like IFC and HDNet).

Neil (director) told me privately in May that it would be premiering on Starz "this fall." He then announced it publicly at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June.

However, no date has been announced yet and Starz has made no mention of the film at all.

There was some kind of similar deal with Graduation. They debuted it on one of the HD channels at the same time as they played it in a handful of theaters. I find this depressing because Fanboys was supposed to be a much bigger film. Remember when they were talking 1200 theaters earlier this year? This is pretty pathetic. Next thing you know they'll just stick it on the shelf until it makes it's cable TV debut on Comedy Central in 2010. It was sold to them earlier this year.

At least the techinal aspects of the dvd doesn't look that bad (with the exception of the sound, for me)

Yes, Illinois, it's true that date was announced. But it was announced late. It was the date the film would've hit DVD if the theatrical release had been on 9/19. But that date didn't last very long and digital bits announced the December date after it had already been postponed. Kyle said that if it was theatrically released in November, the DVD wouldn't drop until January or February. But because he wouldn't let me say that he was my source on that info, I was called a liar and several other names. I'm telling you guys, defending this movie and keeping people in the loop about it has been damn near as hard as fighting the Alpha Dog troll(s). And I never thought anything would be worse than that.

The DVD is in 2.0 stereo? Are they kidding? That really sucks. Big time. Not that Fanboys is a movie you absolutely need to experience in Dolby Surround, but these days Dolby 5.1 is the standard. I would understand it if it was something that was made before the times of Dolby Surround. Is the final cut 2.0 stereo too, or what? This makes no sense. Like Simon, I feel this is substandard. But, hey, it's Fanboys. I shouldn't be surprised that they're messing up the DVD too.
