Okay, so this is going to be a John Cusack movie I won't watch.

Re: Fanboys

Since we're on the subject of putting money in Weinstein's pockets (by accident or otherwise), I feel compelled to mention that they've released 9 movies so far this year, and the #2 movie of the weekend, Zack and Miri, took in this first weekend ($10.7M) almost what their most successful movie of the year took in its entire run (Under the Same Moon with $12.6M).

Of course, not one of the other 7 movies even broke $1M. So Zack and Miri made more in its first weekend what all their #2-8 movies made combined all year.

Again, this is the optimist in me saying that maybe they will (eventually) market Fanboys better than we expect. Just sayin'. You know me, always looking for that glimmer of hope.

Re: Fanboys

Well, if the new poster is any indication, then I guess there goes your glimmer of hope... wink People on IMDb also say the new trailer is kinda crap. It's not online yet (at least not that I know of), so I haven't seen it. I usually don't give much for what people on IMDb say, but they may just be right because we've heard through the grapevine that the new trailer is "mediocre". And that might actually be putting it mildly.

Re: Fanboys

Love the reactions to this (see comments at the bottom of the page): http://www.joblo.com/new-fanboys-poster Yes, guys, exactly my reaction! Looks like the general consensus is that people don't like the new poster at all: http://www.geektyrant.com/2008/10/new-f … ie-poster/ and http://fav.or.it/post/704599 I'm sure there's more like it all over the 'net.

You're a true optimist, Larry. I'm the eternal pessimist (ask Deb). It would be nice to see them giving Fanboys the treatment it deserves, but I'm afraid I've pretty much given up the hope I ever had.

Re: Fanboys

Here is what this site http://www.impawards.com/

A funny Yoda-inspired tag line at the bottom and a very humorous take on the 40-Year-Old Virgin design.

To each their own I guess.

But I agree with you guys, the poster is terrible.

I like this one the best:
normal_FanboysPosterStarWars.jpg

But I think I would move the van down. Right now it looks like it's floating in mid air. Same thing with the movie marque. I would move both down and fill in the top with stars.

Perhaps the Jedi poster would be a good thing to try and copy.

Just some tips. Not trying to be nitpicky.

Re: Fanboys

The new trailer is up on Yahoo Movies: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809424382/video/

And, yeah, it is kinda lame. Doesn't do the movie justice.

Also, Illinois, thanks for the tips on the poster. Not sure I feel like messing more with it right now. But I'm confused. The poster you linked (the image doesn't show up, but the URL does) is exactly the one I was trying to copy. Guess that didn't really come across. neutral

What was wrong with the original poster & trailer?  Nothing.  Guess Fat Bastard's never heard the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Re: Fanboys

I gotta admit that I didn't love the first teaser poster. It didn't say all that much about the movie either. What I would have wanted was a poster with some of the awesome promo shots they have of the guys, some of which were used by the white posters I posted earlier. Instead we have another lame poster that doesn't say much and confuses or irritates people. I agree that the old trailer was way better than the new one, though.

Oh yes, that I totally agree with. But a new poster that actually had the actors on it would have been way nice.

Re: Fanboys

Random trivia: This was Chris's stand-in for the movie (according to IMDb): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2423944/ Unless he cut his hair, he looks nothing like Chris! Maybe they just needed a guy who was the same height and build.

Re: Fanboys

Stand-ins don't really have to look the same, but yeah they should be the same relative height and build.

Re: Fanboys

I had Ralf post the new poster and a link to the trailer on sf-radio.net too. There's one guy who left a comment:

Das Poster ist scheiße, der Trailer ist super. Aber ich bezweifele, daß das Ding auch irgendwann mal bei uns rauskommt...

meaning

The poster is crap, the trailer is great. But I doubt the movie's ever gonna come out here in Germany...

Yeah, well, we'll see.

More people at sf-radio.net replied to my post about the new poster and trailer. And they all think it's shitty (the poster). Someone actually remembered my post there about the SDW campaign and asked what happened with it. smile

Re: Fanboys

The craptastic new trailer is available in QT now:

http://movies.yahoo.com/premieres/10509 … ardformat/

And the Talkbackers at AICN are savaging it.

Re: Fanboys

I don't get it. Am I blind or confused? I can't find any link to the actual QuickTime HD trailer on that page. The embedded video is the same old Flash format (which is not HD). The link at the bottom (that says it's available in HD) guides you to the Apple homepage where you can download QuickTime. Kinda sounds like you can only view it in HD if you have the whole QuickTime iTunes crap installed on your machine. Like, you can only access it from QuickTime directly. What a stupid system. (It's not available on the apple.com/trailers page either, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense if they say you can view it through QuickTime.)

Looks more like HD what they're offering on this site: http://www.hd-trailers.org/?p=236 I haven't tried the download links at the bottom that link to different sizes of the trailer. Will look into it when I get home.

I didn't try it either.  I don't have QT on this machine.  Found the link on AICN.

Re: Fanboys

New (old) rumors. Someone on the Kristen FanForum posted:

Someone on LJ mentioned one of her friends (who owns a videostore) tells her Fanboys will be going straight to dvd in December. He allready has the coming soon posters.

This was my reply:

I think that's a mistake. The DVD was slated for end of December when they thought the movie was gonna be released in theaters on Sep 19, 2008. They probably already sent out promotional material before they knew the theatrical release was gonna be moved again. And again. I'd be slack-jawed if the DVD was avaialbe in December. If you ask me, DVD release won't be before April or May '09.

I know one thing for sure: The movie is not going straight to DVD. At least that's what reliable sources who are directly involved in the movie are telling me.
