I don't mind Chris Weitz. I've enjoyed most of his films, even the ones which arn't the greatest.
BTW, larry-411, i just love how you posted at exactly 00:00.

Haha. It's 19:00 on mine, but I guess it's a good omen!
Most of the fans have come around to the "let's see how it turns out" idea. After all, what else can they do? It's set, unless he quits.
Shooting should start in Vancouver in March. BTW Michael has not gotten the call yet to be in the movie, but he assumes he will be. He did sign an option-type agreement which basically commits him to do it (although not the other way around).
I'm sure he'll be in it. But there's a good chance they'll replace Taylor.

I'm never a fan of replacing actors for same characters, unless its a complete reboot.

Got this from Larry:
Summit has officially announced November 20, 2009 as the release date for New Moon.
It's also pretty much confirmed that Taylor Lautner is out as Jacob Black. Among those auditioning for the role is Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian).
I have another question, maybe Laura and/or Maria know something about this. Charlie doesn't know that Edward and the Cullens are vampires, right? So how come he never wonderes about Edward's eating habits (or lack of them)? I mean, that kid spends a lot of time in the Swan household. And yet he has never shared one single meal with Bella and Charlie (and Bella cooks for Charlie a lot). He must think that's really strange, at the very least.

I'm neither Laura nor Maria, but I know, too. No, he doesn't know that the Cullens are vampires. I could spoil you for Breaking Dawn, but since you asked this, I guess you're not reading the book yet.

Edward always tells him he just ate or that he's just not very hungry. After a while, Charlie just stops asking if he's hungry.

I started with Breaking Dawn last night. Thanks for the explanation. I still think it's weird, though, a guy who never ever eats... But, hey, I guess it's one of those things you just gotta accept as a given.

You know Edward could eat if he really had to, he'd just have to use the bathroom right after... that would actually make a really funny fanfic. Which would Charlie think was weirder, a kid who didn't eat or a kid who had to go to the bathroom right after eating his daughter's cooking?
Offline
Yeah, and Charlie doesn't like Edward that much, so maybe he just doesn't care if he eats or not.

I thought Bella mentioned it in New Moon or Eclipse, that Charlie just learned to stop asking. Whenever she said it, I know it was in there at one time.

I found this on imdb:
Lautner 'Fighting For Role' In New Moon
17 December 2008 4:16 AM, PST
Twilight star Taylor Lautner is reportedly battling to play Jacob Black in the hit film's sequel New Moon - after rival actors Michael Copon and Ben Barnes showed an interest in taking over the role.
Lautner played the Native American character in the box office smash, and was expected to continue his portrayal of the part in the movie's highly anticipated follow-up - in which Black becomes a pivotal character.
But moviemaker Chris Weitz, who has taken over the director's chair from Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke, is planning to offer the part to a more established actor, according to industry reports.
Prince Caspian star Barnes and Scorpion King 2 actor Copon are reportedly both in the running to take over from Lautner.
And a representative for the franchise admits the film's castings are not yet set in stone.
A spokesperson tells MTV, "The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made."

Ben Barnes would be a horrible Jacob. But I like Mike .

I had to look up both of them on imdb, and I think you're right, Laura ... Ben Barnes doesn't look like Jacob at all. The other guy might work, but I haven't seen the movie yet and I haven't seen Taylor Lautner acting yet, so I have to wait until I've seen the movie.
Hopefully I'll be able to see it on my birthday. It would make me so happy, because I am planning to take off two days of work (my birthday is a Thursday this year, so I am planning to take off Thursday and Friday, which makes a 4 day weekend, yay!) and I want something GOOD to happen on my birthday this year, because last year wasn't that great .... but I have to wait for the schedule of my Original Version theatre. They might get the movie a little later.

Yeah, Ben Barnes soooooooo looks like a Native American. NOT! This sequel might just be pure crap.

I don't know, but I think the reason they're replacing Taylor is because he has too much of a baby face, at least in my opinion. Jacob can't look like a little boy in New Moon.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought, too. But well, New Moon is the book I like least, so maybe I won't care so much about who plays Jacob. LOL But if I am going to like Tayler as Jacob, I might be mad. But I still have to wait another month to see Twilight. I am tired of waiting!!!

The thing we had to remember, whoever is cast as Jacob for New Moon will most likely be Jacob for the rest of the series. Ben Barnes has the maturity thing, but honestly he'd be a better Edward.
And as far as likability as Jacob goes... whoever makes me want to punch him in the face more wins.

Just FYI a major reason is that he is underage. The fact that Kristen was 17 during much of the filming presented a big challenge for Twilight as the rules require they limit the hours. The same would apply to Taylor (he's 16) and would cost the production in terms of time and money.
For example, cutting a working day down from 16 hours (which is common) to 12 means they lose 4 hours a day, which would extend a 30-day shoot by another 10 days. That can increase the production budget by up to 1/3, obviously. On a $60 million that adds another $20 million. That's a lot of fake blood.
Those numbers are just examples. Every day on a shoot can cost millions.

Yeah, and with the way this one's being rushed into production, looks like they'll cut a LOT of corners. Especially since the numbers fell through the floor after that first week. Everything I'm reading about this sequel makes me think it's going to be pretty low rent. They might even shoot the third film along with it to save money. All of this makes me very glad that I haven't gotten caught up in all of this Twilightmania. If I was, I'd be pretty worried about the second movie (and the third one too).

I just hope they'll not ruin the fourth movie (if they're going to make it). Breaking Dawn is my second favorite of the four books and I don't want a movie to ruin it for me.

You know, honestly? While I love(d) reading the books and I'm really looking forward to the first movie, I can't really say I'm caught up in all this. I won't like it if they replace one of the actors, but I'll still watch the second movie. I have barely started reading Breaking Dawn, but I think the first book, Twilight, is my favorite so far. I didn't care so much for New Moon. The stuff in Italy had me slightly bored, to be quite honest. And Moping!Bella got a little old after three or four chapters.
What with all the hype around the first movie, they're gonna have a real hard time fulfilling the expectations for the second movie. Hearing all this, I think a lot of fans are going to be really disappointed with the end product. But of course one shouldn't judge a book by its cover (no pun intended, I love the Twilight series book covers!).

Yeah, same here. That's why I like New Moon least. I mean, of course I suffered with Bella after Edward left, but it got a little too long, I think. The first book is still my favorite, though. I am not into the hype about the actors or the movie(s) either, but of course I will watch them and I'd be sad if the movies won't work the way they are supposed to. But it depends on how much of the book you can put in a movie and I know that the possibilites are limited here.

Oh BTW...the other name mentioned for the role of Jacob is Michael Copon. Latest word is that he is the most likely candidate.
This is what he looks like FYI:
