Re: Fanboys

Hey, everybody, if you wouldn't mind, please help us spread the word about Fanboys any which way you can. If you live in one of the cities where it's opening, encourage your friends to go see it. I know you're all already gonna go, right?  :waiting:

If you know people who live in those cities who might be interested, tell them about the movie.  We have to put butts in the seats if it's going to open any wider. I've seen the list of potential cities and it could go huge.  But it has to do really well in per-screen average that first weekend.  If you want to see it at a theater near you, please join us in reminding everyone that it's on the way.  Look what Internet buzz did to save the "real movie" in the first place.  smile

For everyone that sends an email or posts a bulletin on MySpace or Facebook and tells me about it, I'll post a brand new, exclusive Linus pic here.   If 5 of you do it, I'll post the Linus pole dancing wallpaper in this thread for the first time ever.  How 'bout that?  This way we all win!  big_smile

IESB.net has a clip up.

Don't know if it's new or not to you, and I can't tell you what the video actually is of since I can't get it to load up and play.

IESB has got a clip from the film entitled "Take Your Shirt Off," click play to watch it below!

It's a scene from the movie. Hutch tries to work his wanna-be Jedi magic on Zoe, telling her that she wants to take her shirt off. She doesn't relent but shows her naked breasts to Windows (not seen on screen, of course), who doesn't even notice because he's geeking out with a fellow Star Wars nerd via Instant Message.

Chris isn't in this scene. And it's not new to Deb, Anne and me, but it will be for the large majority of our guests. smile

I know I don't count, but I posted a MySpace bulletin, put it on the walls of four Chris or Fanboys-related Facebook communities, posted a Facebook note, put it in my LiveJournal and posted it in the Chris community on LJ (which is totally dead, but...). I might stop by one or two of the Kristen Bell boards I'm registered with later on.

Re: Fanboys

That's great, Sean!  big_smile

Please also post something about the release on all your Star Wars message boards so they'll know it's real this time.  I can't emphasize enough how we've all gotta help spread the word.  We can't trust TWC to give it much of a push (obviously).  We've already seen what the fans can do with the protest last year.  We've just gotta bring that same enthusiasm to helping it expand now.  smile

Re: Fanboys

Monday evening, Kyle Newman was interviewed for about an hour on the 501st Podcast.
http://501st.com/podcast/

I got to take part in the interview, even though I only spoke for about 2 minutes big_smile .  It was still fun to listen to and he was basically just trying to encourage those in the 'limited release areas' to go support Fanboys. He voiced his unhappiness with the limited release and was upset that it wasn't being shown in the southeastern part of the country(Atlanta, and FL specifically) (I thought of Deb smile)
(I haven't been on the boards recently, so this may not be new to ya guys..) I learned that Kyle is actually the guy who poses with the Vader helmet on the '40 yr old virgin' poster spoof. He said he wasn't too crazy about the poster, but now is warming up to it mainly because actors that were in 40 yr old virgin are also in Fanboys. There's going to be a new poster coming out, if it hasn't already...it'll show a white Storm Trooper helmet, with different state stickers on it... kinda like the old suitcases that have stickers of the states they've traveled to....I kinda like this idea and can't wait to see it.  Kyle also mentioned that he and Jon Heder are working on a Napoleon Dynamite Animated series as well as some other projects--so he's definitely been keeping himself busy.
Anyways...just wanted to share with ya real quick!!

Re: Fanboys

Thanks, Sean, that's great news. Will try to listen to the podcast later. We didn't know about the new poster. While the idea sounds kinda cool, why can't they release a darn poster with the actors on it?? I think that's what most fans want, to see Sam and Jay and Dan and Chris and, most of all for the guys, Kristen.

I didn't know that it was Kyle on the 40-year-old Star Wars fan poster either. That's the only cool thing about it, I guess.

Re: Fanboys

I totally agree...a poster with actual faces would be nice. I've been telling alot of friends about the movie(Over the years!) and I'll mention some of the actors names and they won't ring a bell, but as soon as I show them a picture, they're like, "Oh yea...that guy's from Detroit Rock City!!" or "He's from JOA-I love that guy" etc...Actor recognition is a biggie and at least one of the posters needs them on it!

Re: Fanboys

That's pretty cool about the podcast.  I got a very brief email from Kyle on Sunday night after I crashed that I just read last night, basically said the same thing.  He's still upset that it's only 8 cites.  But I guess it's better than nothing, as long as their really serious about expanding it.  We just really need to figure out a way to fill those theaters on opening weekend.  I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Re: Fanboys

Too bad you don't go to movies Illinois, there's an advance screening and party for Fanboys in Chicago that Kyle Newman emailed me about...

http://www.genart.org/x/newsflash/newsf … .html#2988

He also said that advertising will be sickeningly minimal.  So again, it's up to us to save the movie!

Butts in the seats, people, butts in the seats.  Anyone got any bright ideas how we can fill those theaters on opening weekend?

Re: Fanboys

Here's something I've just posted on our front page:

fanboys_releasecampaign.jpg

As posted before, on Feb 6 Fanboys will be released in a pitiful eight cities only. We at chris-marquette.com have already seen the final cut, and we know that it deserves much better.

A lot of you will not live in or near any of the eight cities it's going to screen in, and we can tell you that, as a Chris Marquette and/or Star Wars fan, you will want to see it. If we get enough people to voice just that, the Weinstein Co. might listen to the fans again.

And now we'd like to tell you what you can do to get the movie released wider. Just click here. Please help us get the movie out there!

Please spread the word! The direct link to that page we're linking to is:

Re: Fanboys

I would never even think about going into Chicago to go see a movie. I just don't like big cities.

Anyways, it really doesn't bode too well for the movie.
For instance, Southland Tales opened up on 63 theaters in the U.S.. And that one had many big names including The Rock, Seann William Scott, Justin Timberlake and Kevin Smith. And yet that only made $275,380 in the U.S.
Now granted that it got mixed reviews and very little promotion.

The only way that Fanboys could do much better is if it gets great reviews or makes a ton of money in those 8 theaters then it  might increase the chances of more theaters. Otherwise there is a chance that it could make very little at the box office.

Re: Fanboys

Which is why we're trying to get the word out that the movie's finally opening, but not wide enough.  TWC is dooming it to failure by dumping it in a limited number of cites and then REFUSING to support it with advertising.  But we, the fans, saved the movie from Steve Brill and Harvey The Hutt's attempt to ruin it by cutting the heart out of it.  And we can save it from obscurity and failure too.

Re: Fanboys

The official Fanboys MySpace (and I mean the *official* one) has posted how the 40 screens are gonna be distributed and some of the theaters for the cities that are known:

1)  New York – 10 screens (including AMC 34th St)
2)  Los Angeles – 10 screens (including Mann Chinese 6)
3)  Chicago – 3 screens
4)  Philadelphia – 5 screens
5)  San Francisco – 6 screens
6)  Seattle – 3 screens
7)  Houston – 3 screens
8)  Austin - 1 screen (Alamo Drafthouse)

Though that adds up to 41, does it not?

Oh yeah, I think Alamo Drafthouse was added later because they contacted TWC and asked for it.  Kyle told me that, but I had forgotten about it.

At least three people on the Kristen Bell FanForum said they would e-mail the Weinsteins. Yay! Now I need to get a text together for myself and e-mail it. I'm surely gonna mention a European release too.

I just checked Yahoo Movies and it's in their top trailers and clips.  Someone behind the scenes is doing "something" to get the word out anyway.

Re: Fanboys

It's the new clip where Kristen (kind of) reveals her boobs. It's probably just in there because it was newly added. Might disappear again from the front page by the weekend. Though it would sure be nice if it didn't.

IESB.net also posted something about the limited release. This here just made me laugh:

If you live in one of these cities GO SEE FANBOYS so that the rest of America can see it as well!! Fanboys needs a great turnout opening weekend! So come on Star Wars fans, get out there! I promise it's better than the last 3 Star Wars films you saw!

True! lol

Re: Fanboys

Derek from the Austin Fan Force checking in!

I've been lurking for the last week or so, seeing how y'all were reacting to TWC 'massive promotional machine' roll

I've copied your front page post and the links and sent them by myspace bulletin on our fanforce page, as well as emailed Harry at Aint It Cool News, IESB.net, Force.net, Rebelscum.com, and Stop Darth Weinstein this afternoon before I went to work.

I can assure you that down here in Austin we will do everything within our meager means to promote the hell out of the movie once we know for sure which Alamo location is hosting it!
