Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

I did just like Tina. I heard that Mike's in it (thanks to this board) and decided to read the books before the movie came out. I got totally hooked. And I loved Mike in it. I just pictured Mike Newton to look more like MW looks in that picture that TJ sent me. I thought Mike Newton in the movie looked like some kind of addict but that might be just because I watched the "alien-green torrent"-version of it. Can't wait to see the real thing.:D

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

For me it was actually the first time I ever heard about the Twilight movies when we met Mike in October. So I wanted to see the movie and decided to order the first two books. I was hooked as soon as I started reading Twilight, so I also ordered the other two. I had no idea that I'd become such a Twilight addict. LOL

It must be the bad quality version of the movie that you watched. On the big screen, Mike looked great. Handsome, cute--a gorgeous young man. There was nothing addict-like about him at all.

Maybe that's also the reason why you didn't like the movie so much, I can't imagine watching it as a bad quality, filmed-off-the-screen version and liking it. But then, I'm a cinema girl. I believe movies need to be seen on the big screen, especially the ones you think you care about. There's a few of them that I never saw on the big screen and now wish I had, like The Matrix and Fight Club.

Someone once told me there will be a 3 disc version. Does anybody here know if that's true?

I don't know about a 3-disc edition, but it could be the same thing as what they're doing a lot lately, that the third disc is just the movie as a digital copy (the movie as a video file that you can put on your iPod etc.). I think they did it with Juno and Wall-E and a bunch of other movies. But that's just speculation on my end.

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

Little bit of news about the U.S. Blu-ray release.

Twilight, the teen vampire romance, will be released on Blu-ray high-def disc on March 21, but will only be available in Blu at Target and Best Buy for almost two months after release.

http://www.tvpredictions.com/twilight012209.htm

Regarding a 3-disc edition.

Not officially in the U.S.  >> Unless there is some sort of store exclusive from Best Buy, Target or Walmart.

From videobusiness:

Summit Home Entertainment confirmed it will release runaway hit Twilight on DVD on March 21 (prebook Feb. 3), but most stores will have access solely to the two-disc edition, priced at $32.99.

The supplier acknowledged that retail access to a single-disc SKU will be restricted to rental stores and a very limited sell-through account base, attributing the decision to the devotion of Twilight's mostly female fan base.

There also will be a Blu-ray version, priced at $34.99.

"The Twilight fan is someone who is looking for more than just the movie, because of the large amount of repeat viewership that we got with the film," Summit Home Entertainment president Steve Nickerson said. "Many of them have seen the movie more than once and are looking for more than what they can get on a basic release. We feel this is the best way to go to market."

Stephenie Meyer, the author of the best-selling novel on which the movie is based, has written about the two-disc Twilight release on her official Web site, www.stepheniemeyer.com.

Ah, okay. Well, I don't need a digital version of the movie. But if I'm going to like the movie and wanna buy the DVD, I need to find a person from the US who is willing to send it to me. I could ask Nathalie's boyfriend to bring it for me in April but I already asked him about Amber's movies and a third DVD is probably too much. Any volunteers? LOL (joking)

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

i saw twilight last night. i have not read the books so i am only speaking about the movie here.
overall it was an enjoyable movie.
but the beginning sucked big time. i mean it just does not take the time to make you care about bella or edward and to make you understand why they fall in love. i mean ok edward is hot all right, but doesn't one need a little more to fall in love to the point where you are willing to give up your life for that person?
and to way edward falls for bell that is a mystery .
but after the fall in love the movie is quit nice and their relationship is cute and makes you like them
the fianl battle thing is a little to underdone for my taste. i mean it didn't seem dangerous at all after all.

does the book take more time with explaining how they fall in love?

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

In the book, it's also a love-at-first-sight thing. Bella is hugely attracted to Edward from the first moment she sees him. I think at first it's more her fascination with his alien-ness and of course his stunning looks. I guess that's where the movie can't really do the book justice, because the vampires are described as unhumanly beautiful. How do you portray that in a movie when it's humans playing vampires and all of the actual humans in the story are played by actors that are anything but ugly?

I can't quite remember how long it takes in the book until Bella realizes she's in love with Edward. It takes a while for her to come to terms with how he first behaved in biology class, when he seems disgusted and repulsed by her (which, by the way, I thought wasn't well done at all in the movie--something about that scene really bothered me). Then he's gone from school for a few days where Bella doesn't seem him at all. After she goes down to La Push and talks to Jacob, she starts her research and find out what he is. I think it's only after that, that she realizes she's in love with this guy, no matter what he is.

I'm sure Laura can also say a whole lot about this topic. She's the authority around here when it comes to Twilight and I'll gladly bow to her expertise. smile Of course Maria and Anne also know the books quite well.

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

TJ got Bella's... thing for Edward right.  Because the book was from Bella's POV, no one including Bella really know what drew Edward to her.  In Midnight Sun, which is Twilight from Edward's POV (first 12 chapters on Stephenie Meyer's website) he basically says that it was how badly he wanted to kill her, which made him want to protect her from any harm, which made him obsessed with her.  Which made him fall in love.

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

I haven't read what's there of Midnight Sun. And to be honest, I kinda don't want to. I keep hoping that Stephenie will pick it up again some time or that she'll write something new.

It's difficult to explain the whole Bella/Edward relationship in just a few sentences when you haven't read the books. I get it if people would rather not read them right now, not wanting to go along with the hype. But maybe, once all that has died down, you wanna give them a chance. I really enjoyed them a great deal.

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

Um, look at this thread.  How many people in it have talked about how obsessed they became with the books?  Staying up too late, can't stop reading the books.  I'm too susceptible to falling into things like that.  It's why I've never read a Harry Potter book too.

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

Excellent review, TeeJay. And I liked everyone's comments about Mike.

I never read any of the books before seeing the movie and still haven't. In fact, I'd never even heard of Twilight until rumors surfaced about a friend of mine being cast in it (not Mike). I actually had a conversation with Mike about the movie (regarding my other friend) even before he knew anything about it himself. So it was a bit weird when he got the call and was cast. Since I knew a bit about it by then (I'd been following the film's IMDb board) I told him everything I knew, mostly about the fan base.

Needless to say, I wouldn't have had any interest in seeing the film otherwise. Between you, me, and the wall, I only went because Michael was in it. So I'm glad he had some nice screen time (it was more than I expected also -- he's quite modest and led me to believe it was a very small role), did a great job, and that his performance left a positive impression on people.

Re: Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies)

I read some not-so-great reviews in German newspapers and magazines. Most of them tell you that you'll "not find 'your' Edward in the movie", aka the Edward you imagined when you were reading the books. Well, I kind of expected that, so that won't keep me from watching the movie. No director can create on film what I have in my head. I just wish my theatre would have that movie already! I don't wanna wait much longer.
